Compound Sentences

1. I went to school, and I was late. 2. I didn’t study, but I passed the exam.

Complex Sentence

1. Joe studied literature in college because he has always loved to read.

2. Because Joe has always loved to read, he studied literature in college.

3. While I was studying, my roommate was having a party. 4. I was studying while my roommate was having a party. 5. When I was a student, I studied every day. 6. I studied every day when I was a student.

Exception: while/whereas (compare) USE Comma

Joe is tall, while his brother is short.
