How do you get search results? When you type in a search phrase

The search engine searches its index of websites for thosethat contain the words in your search phrase, synonyms tothe words you have searched for.

It determines if those words are headings, alongsideheadings, have importance placed on them within thetext, how many times they appear on the pages withoutbeing considered spam and then determines the order todisplay the results based on the Page Ranking.

What isPageRanking?

Page Ranking

The search engines change their algorithm frequently and keep their newcriteria secret but will reveal many key factors on their own site WebmasterTools areas. One long time constant has been Site Links.

Links break down into 4 main areas:-

• Inbound links – Links from other sites to your site

• Reciprocal links – Links between your site and another that are mirrored

• Outbound links – Links from your site to other sites

• Internal links – Links from pages inside your site to other pages on your site

Google Says…….

Inbound links are links from pages on external sites linking back to your site.

Inbound links can bring new users to your site, and when the links are merit-based and freely-volunteered as an editorial choice, they're also one of thepositive signals to Google about your site's importance.

Other signals include things like Search Engine analysis of your site's content, its relevance to a geographic location, etc.

As many of you know, relevant, quality inbound links can affect your PageRank(one of many factors in ranking algorithms). And quality links often comenaturally to sites with compelling content or offering a unique service.
