What is SEO?

SEO is Search Engine Optimisation.

There are 2 main ways to get Google ranking.

Paid advertising

Organic

How I Know this 9 Step SEO Strategy Works?

Previously I shared how I started a website…

Angel Foods (the cake business) started in September 2010 and I honestly only got a website to put on my business cards to sell cakes. I was off and racing making cakes, going to markets, taking wholesale orders.

The gallery or portfolio was dodgy and updated images every 2-3 weeks and also published a couple of blogs. In that first year I probably blogged … maybe 6 times?

But I quickly learnt that to get any sort of decent traffic (number of website hits) and better google ranking I would need to upgrade to a WordPress website + blog more.

So 12 months into business I upgraded to a WordPress and kept adding more photos. My website hits were about 1-3 hits per day in the beginning and when I upgraded to WordPress it was about 10-20 hits per day.

I’m going to be completely honest, I had no idea back then (2011) how to get more traffic to my website.

I was running around like a headless chook. From caking, baking, decorating, going to the markets, deliveries and franchising.

In 2014 I decided to upgrade my website (again)… And THIS is when I worked out the magick of my 9 step SEO strategy!

Website hits (or number of page views) were about 2700 for the month of May 2012.

Since then, March 2013 was 4111 hits, July 2014 was 9461 hits, March 2015 was 11,615 hits and January 2016 is 16,298 hits. April 2016 got 50,000 hits! June 2016 I got 300,000 page views and now I sit at around 230,000 page view per month!

In June 2014 I started my 9 Step SEO Strategy and in 6 months I got Google #2 and in 8 months hit Google #1.

That is how I know that this 9 step SEO strategy works.

SEO Strategies

There are dozens (hundreds) of SEO strategies out there. I have been researching &

implementing SEO since 2012, so want to share what works in my experience (& hopefully

save you time & money!)

My 9 Step SEO Strategy (I will break each of these down)

1. Have Google Analytics set up.

2. Know who your target market is (who you are selling to).

3. Have a WordPress website.

4. Keyword research.

5. Title & description.

6. High quality content.

7. Follow the blog template.

8. Images – optimize for SEO.

9. SEO plugin – fill in every time!

Bonus #1 – Have a blog roll.

Bonus #2 – Have a widget area.

Bonus #3 – Republish old content to current date (when applicable).

9 Step SEO Strategy

1. Have Google Analytics set up.

It is a free tool that tracks website traffic. Here are instructions on how to add GA to your

website.

It tracks your stats, so you know how many people are coming to your website (is your

starting point).

(For example - how many page views per day, what are you most popular pages/pages,

where traffic is coming from – Google, emails, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc!)

What isn’t measured can’t be improved. (If you aim of increasing website traffic.)

2. Know who your target market is.

Ask yourself, who are you selling to? Knowing your customer (or potential customer) is, is knowing your target market. This is your foundation or building block to your business.

3. Choose a Platform.

What type of website?

I highly recommend WordPress (.org) because WordPress loves Google & Google loves

WordPress.

4. Keyword Research

What to write about?

Need to do Keyword Research: this is what people are typing into Google.

(See attached Keyword Research bonus training below.)

5. Page Title & Description

Otherwise known as meta & beta tags

The page & post title and description need to be keyword rich.

6. Quality Content

Need to be uploading/writing/recording/sharing/publishing quality content.

Sharing good information that your target market will be interested in.

Google rewards quality over quantity.

7. Blog Template

Blog posts can follow a ‘template’ which Google loves.

Improving length of time people stay on a website.

Decreases bounce rate. (A bounce rate is when someone hits your website, only visits that 1

page and then bounces straight back off.)

Template –

Title – keyword rich

1st paragraph – keyword rich

Image – alt text

Story or backstory – for readability, increase time on page

Hyperlinking to own content

Bonus – embed video

9. SEO Plug in
