GOGUIDE is a local online magazine for the West Lothian area. We are trying to be less focused on local ‘news’ and more a, ‘what’s on’ or ‘happening’ guide to the local area. We do have a pretty modern approach to GoGuide content and eventually hope to produce articles on subjects outside our usual stuff such as Clubbing, Internet, Lifestyle, Sport and Fitness etc.

This is a strange one. The band is called Alan Smithee. Each member is called Alan Smithee. Their online EP is

called, you guessed it, Alan Smithee. And whilst the mystery is charming, you can’t help but be let down when they turn out to be 4 seemingly normal looking blokes.

Thankfully, the sounds they create aren’t the least bit disappointing and leave the whole Alan Smithee naming debacle as a distant memory. Of the three songs and one jam session that you can root out online, thankfully only one of them being titled Alan Smithee, you probably won’t hear what you expect.

Maybe I was biased against the boys before I lis-tened, but consider me converted. ‘Surplus’ opens a lo-fi indie crooner tune with plenty of energy before settling you down into the gentle swaying,

almost not quite there but just on the horizon, vocals of Smithee. Only to whisk you up and away over the metaphorical tree tops (to contin-ue the landscape metaphor previously alluded to) on their trippy garage rock adventure.

‘Alan Smithee’, the track this time, moves us along to a decidedly more sombre path on this adventure. Bands like Pavement and maybe a little Violent Femmes seem to peek through the forest and join in with the slowly building cacophony.

There’s a little bit of everything in Alan Smithee and the swing-rock ‘The Plague’ takes us safely out and back home from Smithee’s world to our own sofas, but not before an ethereal crescendo that’ll probably crop up in your dreams tonight. The band start to let out a little of their weird in this track.

So Alan Smithee, teaching the age-old adage that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. Or title.

If the biography on their Facebook page is even halfway true, these guys had more exciting

formative years than most. Apparently they were once fishing folk who were caught in a storm, which they did survive. Only for a rival vessel to crash into their ship, destroying it and loosing their cat ‘Sea Biscuit’ to Davy Jones’ locker.

Now obviously distraught and probably a little peeved they decided to trade the fishing rods for guitars and drum sticks to grace the

people’s ears with their noise. And what a gratefully received noise it is.

From the first speaker-straining intro of ‘A Man Called Shanks’ you’ll be stomping your feet, bearing your teeth and doing that ‘head-banging’ thing that the youths of today seem to have regrettably foregone in favour of the dubstep ‘skank’.

Emilio Largo never let up for an instant, if you think you might be settling into a plateau of relaxation among their track-list beware, for it’s only a trap to make that next snare hit and riff combo feel like the colossal wave that nearly capsized the lads boat.

Flooded By Fire puts forward almost iron-clad arguments for the use

of circle pits in everyday public transport as a matter of necessity as the guitars and drums chase each other around like the metaphorical snake eating it’s own tail.

Waterson’s vocals swim up current through the heavy torrent of ‘Love Hearts’ charging distortion-laced and stormy waters to place a weather beaten marker that firmly places Emilio Largo as a band to not only look out for, but to actively follow, support and spread the tall-tales of.

The boys done Sea Biscuit proud.

Megan Wedgwood is a young model from west Lothian with a certain something about her. Megan possesses one of those rare qualities in that she can pull off the appearance of an incred-ibly stunning young woman in one moment and then the next she turns into the pretty girl next door, ok maybe the VERY pretty girl next door if you want to be precise. She carries both a natural beauty but at the same time has classic features that when used to their best make turn Megan truly stand out from the crowd.

Megan is also an accomplished musician and studies at the Academy of Music and Sound Edinburgh. She has played in rock bands in the past and currently front acoustic duet The Aspect with her partner Archie Baird. We featured The Aspect in our June 2012 issue.

INTERVIEWTHE GOGUIDE MAGAZINE

GoGuide: What was your first mod-elling shoot?

Megan: It was in the changing rooms at my work!! A friend I used to work with was doing a photog-raphy course and was doing an advertising project for the company and got me involved.

GoGuide: What prompted your interests in modelling?

Megan: A few of my mates are photographers and I ended up doing some shoots with them and really enjoying it. It just went from there really.

GoGuide: What kind of modelling are you interested in and why?

Megan: I’m not a fan of doing sorta commercial modelling and I definitely wouldn’t do any glamour. I like shoots that are about creat-ing a really cool image as a whole; not necessarily just going for what is typically classed as pretty. I’ve always wanted to do a classic kinda black and white studio shoot too.

GoGuide: It is often said that a model should have a good person-ality, how would you describe your personality?

Megan: I’d say I’m pretty friendly and easy to get along with, once you get to know me you’ll never get me to shut up! I’m a total stress head too, I’m always driving folk mad with my worrying!!

GoGuide: What do you enjoy most about modelling?

Megan: I love finding cool wee places to do shoots to get different types of shots. I’m a total beginner and have not really been doing it for very long, so right now every-thing is an experience, I love learn-ing new things.

GoGuide: Describe yourself in three words?

Megan: Oh god I don’t know! I’d say bubbly, caring and trustworthy.

GoGuide: What’s your best fea-ture?

Megan: Em I’d say my eyes, I have quite long eyelashes.

GoGuide: What’s your worst fea-ture?

Megan: My hair!! It is a nightmare, I can’t get it to do anything I want it too.

GoGuide: How do you unwind?

Megan: I always find going to the gym helps beat away a day’s stress! I also love going to gigs or just spending time chilling out watching a film or something.

GoGuide: What fashion designers do you like?

Megan: I’m definitely a high street girl. I’m a bit of a stinge when it comes to spending loads on one

thing! My faves are new look, H&M and Miss Selfridge.

GoGuide: What’s your best beauty tip?

Megan: I ALWAYS take my make up off before bed! A good skincare routine is important I think, I just use a face wash, toner and moistur-iser but it definitely helps keep my skin clear. I find the ‘Simple’ brand amazing.

GoGuide: Is there any one thing you cannot be without?

Megan: My ipod!

GoGuide: Favourite model?

Megan: Tyra Banks, I think she’s a great role model for women. She’s stunning but at the same time isn’t stick thin or full of herself, I think that’s something to inspire to.

GoGuide: Favourite pair of shoes?

Megan: I have a stunning pair of really high black wedges that I love. I can’t walk in them though so they never get worn!!

GoGuide: Favourite food?

Megan: Chilli

GoGuide: Favourite drink?

Megan: I loveeee Jack Daniels and coke!

GoGuide: Favourite Band/Artist?

Megan: This is a toughy!! At the moment I’d probably say James Vincent Mcmorrow, amazing voice. I’m also a big Incubus and Pearl Jam fan.

GoGuide: Favourite TV Show?

Megan: I don’t really watch much TV but Come Dine With Me is my addiction at the moment!

GoGuide: Favourite Movie?

Megan: Coyote Ugly..I love a chick flick!

GoGuide: Favourite Place to be?

Megan: I just went to Rhodes a couple of weeks ago with my boyfriend and friends, I think that’s pretty high up in my list of favourite places right now. I’d go back in a second.

GoGuide: Thanks Megan

A SMOOTHER FACE

Jeannette Graf, MD, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City has a tip for those suffering dehydrated skin, “If your skin is de-hydrated, rather than splash water on your face every day, use a soap-free cleanser, apply to dry skin, then wipe off with a soft cloth”

DOUBLE BENEFIT FACE MASK

Dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD, explains to us how to get double benefit from your typical face pack when it comes to your lips “A

10-minute mask packed with dead sea salt is a great option, as the minerals do a good job of holding in moisture, rinse it off, or remove with a damp face cloth, for smooth, soft lips”.

HYDRATE YOUR LIPS

Moisten your lips with cool water before applying any lip balm, apply the balm next to seal in moisture. “Doing so makes the top layer of your skin more permeable and allows the products to lock in hydration,” advises Marina Peredo, MD who does this twice a day and promises it really works!

ANTI-AGING OVER WINTER

“Prescription and over-the-counter retinoid products can be extra-drying on the skin during the colder months,” says Brooke Jackson, MD, medical director of the Skin Well-ness Center in Chicago. Mix a pea-size amount of your retinoid in with your face moisturizer. “You’ll get the benefit of the retinoid with minimal irritation”.

LAY OFF THE TONER

Lorien Sites, MD, a dermatologist tells us that toner is something you can give a miss this year unless your

Page 42: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 42 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

skin is really oily, “Toners often have an alcohol base and can strip skin of its natural oils,” If you must use one though an alcohol-free toner is the best option.

EAT LESS SUGARY STUFF

As it gets colder it seems like everyone’s cravings for sugary foods are at their highest? The trigger for skin breakouts can be the increase on the types of food groups that are high in carbs cake, muffins, white bread etc. “A diet high in refined carbs leads to increased levels of insulin, which raises inflammation in the body and ultimately the skin,” advises Elizabeth Tanzi, MD, co-director of the

Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. So go easy on the comfort baking and do your skin a winter favour.

KEEPING SKIN SOFT

Author of Feed Your Face, Jessica Wu, MD says “Oily fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are high in 0mega-3 fatty acids, which help relieve dry, itchy skin,” If you’re not a big fish eater you can get the same benefits from fish oil capsules.

PRE-SHOWER ROUTINE

Timing is pretty important when it comes to moisturizing your body, it’s not

all about what you put on but when. Alex Khadavi, MD tells us that “Ap-plying lotion to dry skin before you shower will prevent the drying effect of soap and hot water. The more, the better,”

Ceramides or hyaluronic acid is the important things to look for in a hydrator to help skin retain moisture, and reapply post-shower.

A LITTLE RAZOR AID

Ranella Hirsch, MD, a clinical as-sistant professor of dermatology

at the Boston University School of Medicine helps out with a good tip “One gentle way to remove dead skin on your legs is by shaving, It not only removes hair, but by exfoliating in the process, it allows lotions to penetrate better.”

REPAIR YOUR HAIR

Avocado oil is an essential repair and preventer of damaged hair “It pen-etrates the cuticle and helps lock in moisture,” says Dina Strachan, MD.

FIGHTING FLAKES

If things get too bad in the dandruff war and you resort to a specialist shampoo keep hair shiny by utilising this wee trick. Use any brand of dan-druff shampoo to treat your scalp, then re-apply a standard moisturizing shampoo on your hair for a second time.

Thats it, hope this help all you guys out there to keep looking good for all your shoots or just to generally look and feel in tip top condition.

LIFE(STYLE)LIFE

Dieting is pretty much a minefield when it comes to trying to find the one that

suits you best. There are just so many options to choose from and it can be a really difficult challenge to find one that’s just right.

Like a knight in shining armour the British Dietetic Association (BDA) has looked at the good and bad things that a lot of the more main-

stream choices offer and gives its verdict on the 10 commercial diets that are searched for most online.

It’s a good thing to point out that most if not all of the diets listed should only be used as a quick fix to your weight problem and are never meant to be used on a long term basis. One major issue is their underlying tendency to make your weight fluctuate or yo-yo excessively rather than staying in a constant range. Keeping weight off should be everyone’s main aim and we all

know that the main way of achieving that is to lower your calorie intake and to try to take more physical exercise. It’s widely thought that the best way to lose weight is by making a long-term commitment to reduc-ing the amount of calories you take in and on how physically active you are. When losing weight it should ideally be at around 0.5kg to 1kg (1lb to 2lb) a week until you reach a more healthy BMI.

So let’s look at the BDA’s findings on those top 10 diets:

www.nhs.uk www.bda.uk.com

GoGuide Magazine helps you find a diet that suits you to try to stop your natural weight fluctuate or yo-yo’ing as you jump from diet to diet.

THE DUKAN DIET

The Dukan diet is a low-carbohydrate (carb), high-protein diet. There’s no limit to how much you can eat during the plan’s four phases, providing you stick to the rules of the plan. During phase one, you’re on a strict lean protein diet. This is based on a list of 72 reasonably low-fat protein-rich foods, such as chicken, turkey, eggs, fish and fat-free dairy. This is for an average of five days to achieve quick weight loss. Carbs are off limits except for a small amount of oat bran. Unlike the Atkins diet, Dukan’s phase one bans vegetables and seriously restricts fat. The next three phases of the plan see the gradual introduction of some fruit, veg and carbs and eventually all foods. The aim is gradual weight loss of up to 2lb a week and to promote long-term weight management. There’s no time limit to the final phase, which involves having a protein-only day once a week and taking regular exercise.

Pros:You can lose weight very quickly, which can be motivating. It’s a very strict and prescriptive diet and some people like that. It’s easy to follow. You don’t need to weigh food or count calories. Apart from keeping to low-fat, low-salt and high-protein foods, there’s no restriction on how much you can eat during your first two weeks.

Cons:At the start of the diet you may experience side effects such as bad breath, a dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia and nausea from cutting out carbs. The lack of wholegrains, fruit and veg in the early stages of the diet could cause problems such as constipation.

BDA verdict:Rapid weight loss can be motivating but it is unsustainable and unhealthy. The Dukan diet isn’t nutritionally bal-anced, which is acknowledged by the fact that you need a vitamin supplement and a fibre top up in the form of oat bran. There’s a danger this type of diet could increase your risk of long-term health problems if you don’t stick to the rules. The diet lacks variety in the initial phases so there’s a risk you’ll get bored quickly and give up.

THE ATKINS DIET

The Atkins diet is a low-carb, high-protein weight loss pro-gramme. You start with a low-carb diet designed for rapid weight loss. This lasts at least two weeks depending on your weight loss goal. During this phase, you’re on a pro-tein, fat and very low-carb diet, including meat, seafood, eggs, cheese, some veg, butter and oils. In contrast to the Dukan diet, Atkins allows unlimited fat and some veg, such as peppers, cucumber and iceberg lettuce, during phase one. During the next three phases, the weight loss is likely to be more gradual, and regular exercise is encouraged. More carbs, fruit and veg are introduced to your diet with the aim of working out what your ideal carb intake is to

Page 48: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 48 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

LIFE(STYLE)LIFE maintain a healthy weight for life. Phase one is designed

to help you lose up to 15lb in two weeks, reducing to 2lb to 3lb during phase two.

Pros:You can lose weight very quickly, which can be motivating. The diet also encourages people to cut out most pro-cessed carbs and alcohol. With its diet of red meat, butter, cream, cheese and mayonnaise, it’s one of the few diets out there that appeals to men.

Cons:Initial side effects can include bad breath, a dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, nausea and constipation from cutting out carbs and fibre. The high intake of satu-rated fat may increase your risk of heart disease and there are concerns that a lack of fruit, veg and dairy products and a high protein intake may affect bone and kidney health in the long term.

BDA verdict:Rapid weight loss can be motivating but it is unsustain-able. The Atkins diet isn’t nutritionally balanced. By limit-ing fruit and veg it contradicts all the advice on healthy eating that we have tried so hard to pass on to people. The meal choices are limited so there’s a risk many people will get bored quickly and drop out or take a ‘pick and mix’ approach.

CAMBRIDGE DIET

The Cambridge Weight Plans are based around buying and eating a range of meal-replacement products with the promise of rapid weight loss. There are six flexible diet plans ranging from 415kcal to 1,500kcal or more a day, depending on your weight loss goal. There is also a long-term weight management programme. The bars, soups, porridges and shakes can be used as your sole source of nutrition or together with low-calorie regular meals. While on the programme, you receive advice and support on healthy eating and exercise from a Cambridge adviser.

Pros:Many people on very low-calorie diets (VLCDs) find the weight loss to be sudden and quite dramatic. The meal replacements are all nutritionally balanced so you're likely to be getting all the vitamins and minerals you need albeit not from real food.

Cons:Initial side effects can include bad breath, a dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, nausea and constipation from cutting down on carbs and fibre. The hardest part of the plan is sticking to it. Giving up normal meals and swapping them for a snack bar or a shake can be boring and feel socially isolating. This isn’t a plan you can stick to in the long term.

BDA verdict:

Page 49: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

PAGE 49SEP 2012 - issue (21)

You need to like the meal-replacement products to stay with the plan. Rapid weight loss can be motivating but it is unsustainable. A VLCD that involves eating 1,000 calories a day or fewer should not be followed for more than 12 continuous weeks. If you are eating fewer than 600 calo-ries a day, you should have medical supervision.

SOUTH BEACH DIET

The South Beach Diet is a low-GI diet originally developed for heart patients in the US. There’s no calorie counting and no limits on portions. You're encouraged to eat three meals and two snacks a day and follow an exercise plan. People who have more than 10lb to lose start with phase one. This is a two-week quick weight loss regime where you eat lean protein, including meat, fish and poultry, as well as some low-GI vegetables and unsaturated fats. Low-GI carbs are re-introduced during phases two and three, which encourage gradual and sustainable weight loss.

Pros:If you can avoid phase one and start on phase two, there are fewer dietary restrictions in the rest of the plan than some other popular diets. After phase one, the diet broadly follows the basic principles of healthy eating. No major food groups are eliminated and plenty of fruit, veg and low-GI carbs are recommended.

Cons:The severe dietary restrictions of phase one may leave you feeling weak and missing out on some vitamins, minerals and fibre. You may initially experience side effects such as bad breath, a dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, nausea and constipation.

BDA verdict:The first two weeks are the most difficult to get through. We’re concerned that this diet promises such a large weight loss, up to 13lb, in the first two weeks. This, though, won't be all fat. Some of the weight loss will include water and carbs - both of which will be replaced when you begin eating more normally. Once you get past the initial phase, the diet follows the basic principles of healthy eating and should provide the nutrients you need to stay healthy.

SLIMMING WORLD DIET

Slimming World’s weight loss plan encourages you to swap high-fat foods for low-fat foods that are naturally filling. You choose your food from a list of low-fat foods they call 'Free Foods', such as fruit, vegetables, pasta, po-tatoes, rice, lean meat, fish and eggs, which you can eat in unlimited amounts. There’s no calorie counting, no foods are banned and you’re still allowed the occasional treat. You can get support from fellow slimmers at weekly group meetings and follow an exercise plan to become gradually more active. The plan is designed to help you lose about

Page 50: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 50 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

FASHIONLIFE(STYLE)

LIFE 1lb to 2lb a week.

Pros:No foods are banned so meals offer balance and variety and are family-friendly. The portion size from each food group will vary depending which plan you follow. The 'Body Magic' booklet they provide gives ideas to help you raise your activity levels. Meeting as a group can provide valuable support.

Cons:Slimming World doesn’t educate you about calories. With-out having learned about calories and portion sizes, you may struggle to keep the weight off in the long term when you come off the programme.

BDA verdict:The group meetings encourage members to share suc-cesses, ideas and recipes with each other but they may not appeal to everyone. While the meal plans may lack some flexibility, they are generally balanced. However, without learning about calories and portion sizes, you may struggle to make healthy choices once you’ve left the programme.

SLIM-FAST DIET

The Slim-Fast diet is a low-calorie meal replacement plan for people with a BMI of 25 and over. It uses Slim-Fast’s range of products. The plan recommends three snacks a day from an extensive list, including crisps and chocolate, two meal replacement shakes or bars and one regular meal, taken from a list of recipes on the Slim-Fast website. You can stay on the diet for as long as you want depending on your weight loss goal. Once reached, you’re advised to have one meal replacement shake a day, up to two low-fat snacks and two healthy meals. The plan is designed to help you lose about 1lb to 2lb a week and you can follow the diet for as long as you want.

Pros:Meal-replacement diets can be effective at helping some people to lose weight and keep it off. The plan is conveni-ent as the products take the guesswork out of portion control and calorie counting. No foods are forbidden although you are encouraged to eat lean protein, fruit and vegetables.

Cons:On their own, meal-replacement diets do little to educate people about their eating habits and change their behav-iour. There’s a risk of putting the weight back on again once you stop using the products. You may find it hard to get your 5 a day of fruit and veg without careful planning.

BDA verdict:If you don’t like the taste of the meal replacement prod-ucts, you won't stay with the plan. The Slim-Fast plan can be useful to kickstart your weight loss regime, but it’s

Page 51: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

PAGE 51SEP 2012 - issue (21)

important that you make full use of the online support to learn about the principles of healthy eating and how to manage everyday food and drink.

LIGHTERLIFE DIET

The LighterLife weight loss plans combine a very low-cal-orie meal-replacement diet with weekly counselling. With LighterLife Total, for people with a BMI of 30 or more, you eat four 'food packs' a day, consisting of shakes, soups, mousses or bars, and no conventional food. LighterLife Lite, for those with a BMI of 25-30, involves eating three food packs a day plus one meal from a list of approved foods. You stay on the plans until you reach your target weight. The meal plans can lead to very rapid weight loss and you’re advised to see your GP before starting. How long you stay on the diet depends on how much weight you have to lose.

Pros:The counselling can help you understand your relation-ship with food, so hopefully you can make lasting changes to keep the weight off for good. With the meal replace-ments, there’s no weighing or measuring, so it’s a hassle-free approach to weight loss.

Cons:Initial side effects of the diet can include bad breath, a dry mouth, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, nausea and consti-pation from cutting down on carbs and fibre. Surviving on a strict diet of shakes and soups and other meal replace-ments isn’t much fun and can feel socially isolating.

BDA verdict:Rapid weight loss can be motivating but it is unsustaina-ble. LighterLife’s VLCD and its counselling component may work for some, particularly people who have struggled to lose weight for years, have health problems as a result of their weight and are clinically obese with a BMI of more than 30. A VLCD that involves eating 1,000 calories a day or fewer should not be followed for more than 12 continu-ous weeks. If you are eating fewer than 600 calories a day, you should have medical supervision.

WEIGHTWATCHERS DIET

The WeightWatchers plan is based on the ProPoints system, which gives a value to foods and drink based on protein, carbs, fat and fibre content. It is essentially a calorie-controlled diet where you get a personal daily ProPoints allowance, which you can use how you like. There’s no limit on the amount of fruit and most veg you can eat. You also get a weekly ProPoints safety net in case you go over your allowance, and an individual exercise plan. The weekly meetings and confidential weigh-ins pro-vide support and extra motivation to encourage long-term behaviour change. The plan is designed to help you lose up to 2lb a week.

Page 52: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 52 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Pros:No foods are banned so you can eat and drink what you want providing you stick to your points allowance. The ProPoints system is easier to follow for some than calorie-counting and less restrictive than other plans. This is because it introduces a safety net of points, which can be saved up for a special occasion, such as a night out, a small amount of alcohol or treats.

Cons:When you begin, working out the points system can be just as time consuming as simply counting calories. Some people feel pressured into purchasing WeightWatchers branded foods.

BDA verdict:The ProPoints plan is generally well balanced and can be a foundation for long-term changes in dietary habits. The support group approach can help keep people motivated and educate them about healthy eating. But it’s vital that you make the connection between the points system and calories if you want to avoid putting the weight back on once you leave the programme.

ROSEMARY CONLEY DIET

Rosemary Conley’s Diet and Fitness plans combine a low-fat, low-GI diet with regular exercise. You can follow her recipes or buy from her range of calorie-controlled ready meals and snacks. You’re encouraged to eat food with 5% or less fat, with the exception of oily fish, porridge oats and lean meat. A network of local Rosemary Conley clubs offers weekly exercise classes, support and motiva-tion. You learn about calorie counting and portion size, which can help you sustain your weight loss beyond the programme. The diet is designed to help you lose a stone in seven weeks. How long you stay on the plan depends on your weight loss goal.

Pros:The programme is based around calories, with a focus on cutting fat. The 'portion pots', which are used to measure foods such as rice, cereal, pasta and baked beans, teach you about portion control. Physical activity is an integral part of the weight loss plan, with exercise sessions suit-able for all ages, sizes and abilities offered at their weekly classes with trained leaders.

Cons:Some low-fat products aren't necessarily more healthy because they can still be high in sugar and calories. It is unrealistic to expect people to go out with their portion pots and, therefore, portion control may be more tricky away from the home.

BDA verdict:The diet and exercise plans offer a balanced approach to

LIFE(STYLE)LIFE

Page 53: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

PAGE 53SEP 2012 - issue (21)

weight loss that teaches you about portion size, the im-portance of regular exercise for weight management and making healthier choices. The educational element is very useful for long-term weight management once you have left the programme.

JENNY CRAIG DIET

The Jenny Craig programme has three main features: one-to-one support, a meal delivery service and tailored exer-cise plans. The weekly, personalised telephone consulta-tions provide advice, motivation and support. The diet adviser assesses your reasons for gaining weight and, over the course of the programme, helps you to change your behaviour. The meals and snacks are packed into single-sized portions to suit your weight-loss needs. You need to add certain fresh fruits, veg and low-fat dairy products. The programme is designed to help you lose between 1lb and 2lb a week until you reach your target weight.

Pros:All the meals, including snacks, are calorie-counted, portion-controlled and delivered to your door. You eat real food, receive telephone support and learn about portion size, calories and exercise, which can all help you make healthier choices beyond the programme.

Cons:The meals don’t contain fruit, veg or dairy, which will be an additional expense. This isn’t an approach that you can stick to in the long term so it’s vital to learn how to pre-pare or choose healthy food yourself rather than relying on someone else.

BDA verdict:If you don’t like the Jenny Craig meals then this diet won’t work for you. If you want a diet where most of the work is done for you then the Jenny Craig programme can be a good solution. The concern with pre-packaged meals is whether dieters will realise there is no magic trick and be able to replicate the meals, with the same portion sizes and calories, once they are on their own.

So that’s it, in black and white, all you need to know. Which one you gonna try before the weather takes a turn for the worse and we have to pull on those winter wool-lies and head into the run up to the Xmas season.

It’s a slightly updated version of the 2007 Nintendo DS release of Final Fantasy 3 that

makes its way on to the android platform, although the DS game was in effect a major re-write of the 1990 full blown Nintendo title.

So what we get in this package is a classic Japanese console Role Playing Game (RPG) and typically you take a party of four characters exploring within a world of 2 sides. Partly roaming the landscapes and partly based in the various town and underground locations. The tasks involve collecting items and battling collections of monsters us-ing the turn-based combat system and grow in power as the journey

advances.Graphically the game is pretty close to being a direct DS port and shares the overhead view at a wee jaunty perspective. Overall they run well and I saw no real stress put on my android phone.

Narrative wise FF3 falls down pretty badly and for large parts of the game you seem to be wandering aimlessly with only a rudimentary grasp of the main quest. The plot remains quite vague throughout the game and there does seem to be a lack of passionate and character.I suppose what FF3 lacks in heart it makes up for in content with at least 40 hours' worth of explora-tion at your fingertips. It’s a pretty straight forward and linear quest that you undertake with the only distraction being the odd side quest, but each part of the journey is different enough from the previ-ous part.

Interestingly a lot of the usual RPG ‘get outs’ are missing from FF3. There is no resurrect items to but (there are limited ones to find), you can't save in dungeons. So the game is pretty hard in this respect and you may find yourself replaying levels so you know the best way to complete them, as you get into the game things do get a little easier so stick with it through that initial few hours and you should manage the rest of the game.

The game is littered with a multitude of secrets that only the most hardened adventurers will manage to seek out without turning to the internet for advice/help/maps/walkthroughs.

For an android RPG, which are few and far be-tween, FF3 does tick all the right boxes and is up there with the best and definitely worth trying. At £10.99 it’s a big investment in a title for your phone but with at least 40 hours of gameplay you do get a lot for your money.

APPS ORGANIZER

If you’re an android user like me then you will know what it’s like to try to find a particular

app from the Apps list that the android OS gives you. The apps list isn’t always the friendliest place to be and if you can’t recall exactly what the app you looking for is called it can be a rather daunting task trying to find it. Sure you can create shortcut on one of your 7 panes but with

more and more app widg-ets at their best running at full screen those panes soon disappear.

I have panes used up for my POP3 Mail, Player Pro and Internet Book-marks and my main homepage is taken up by the clock and calendar and 4 app shortcuts for Messages, Phonebook, Camera and Resource Manager. So that’s 4 panes gone in total leaving just 3 remaining for my massive collection of apps.

It wasn’t soon after I got my android phone that I realised that even with all this desktop space to play with it was disappearing rather rapidly and

as I added more apps it was becom-ing harder to quickly locate what I needed. A quick search popped up Apps Organizer by Fabio Collini.Apps Organizer is a FREE android app that lets you to organize your installed applications into nice wee boxes and place shortcuts to those boxes on your android panes. Pressing the shortcut would open the wee box and whatever apps are associated with that box will appear inside in the form of the apps usual icon.

As an example let’s say I have 15 music related apps installed on my phone and I want all these easily ac-cessible in one group all together.

Apps Organizer£FREECategory: ToolsLatest Release: November 27, 2011Version: 1.5.19Size: 623k

In Apps Organizer you can cre-ate a LABEL for ALL your music apps and then group them all together under one label which you can then drop onto one of your panes. Pressing the icon for this will then open a window with only your music apps in it. DO the same for News, Games, Social, Tools…. And you know where were go-ing here. Soon you have a fast and easy way of getting to all your themed groups and can find all your apps super-fast.

Two really great features od Apps Organizer are:You can associate an app with more than one label so it ap-

pears it will pop up in multiple windows.

You can uninstall an app directly from within Apps Organizer by press/holding the app icon in whatever window you have open.

There are probably a whole lot of other features for advanced users but for me it does exact-ly what I need it to do plus a few other bonus features that I really liked. Definitely an easy recommendation for anyone struggling with their collection of android apps.

THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER

This article is for all you keen runners and fitness enthu-siasts, as there is

more and more events that include running that is cropping up everywhere, such as the Spartan race and Tough Mudder. I will tell you how you can im-prove your running time and performance by fol-lowing our programme.

In my experience the first thing people think of when starting to train for either a 5k or 10k run is to simply put shorts and running shoes on and start running, thinking it will be easy and they wont stop for a break or cause they are out of breath, let me tell you it is not this simple and I have usually found that the average person can’t perform a mile without stopping when they adopt this approach.

When it comes to running the most common training methods are as follows:

LOW INTENSITY, LONG DISTANCE – this training type involves intensity of around 40 – 60 Max Heart Rate. In a nutshell it is something slow, easy, continuous and long. This can take the form of walking, jogging or cycling. With this approach you will be able to have a conversation easily as you won’t be out of breath. This type of training is good for people just get-ting started with cardio work. It is the least demanding form of cardio training

MEDIUM INTENSITY, MEDIUM DURATION – This involves cardio work done at around 70 of MHR, it is harder therefore can’t be done for as long as low intensity. This is also the next step up. This type of training can be used for fat loss and for increasing aerobic capacity. With this training type you will be breath-ing heavy but not enough to stop.

HIGH INTENSITY, SHORT DURATION - this type of cardio work is done at around 80- 85% MHR. 85% is considered to be the anaerobic threshold, through this can vary depending on fitness levels. This is a very demanding type of training and usually only lasts 5 to 20 minutes.

AEROBIC INTERVAL TRAINING - the first way of doing interval training involves periods of moderate to high intensity, alternating with a rest period in between of low intensity. For example – 2 minutes of a fast run then 1 minute of a slow walk then repeat. You can vary intervals and intensity e.g 5 minutes easy, 2 minutes moderate, 1 minute hard. The key to this training type is variation however you must not stop.

ANAEROBIC INTERVAL TRAINING – this training type in-volves going hard for short periods then resting. It is done from 85 – 100% MHR. How this work is sprint as hard as you can for 30 seconds then walk 30 seconds and keep repeating this pattern. You fitness level will determine how long you can perform this type for.

FARTLEK TRAINING – the word fartlek means speed play. So in a nutshell, you mix up all of the above training methods. For example you might run for 8 minutes, sprint for 30 seconds, walk for 2 minutes and so on. This is a good way to increase intensity each training session and it is also a good way to prevent boredom.

THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER

• Speed session. Run 1km, the pace has to be faster than the runner’s nor-mal race pace, rest for three minutes. Complete this or five sets in total.

Reasoning: By running at a faster pace this enables the runner to maintain high speeds. The body will adapt to this increase in oxygen demand, therefore improving the ability to increase running pace and maintain it. The run-ner will have to build this type of session as trying to run at a higher intensity straight away will regress the runner rather than progress them.

• Tempo session.

Run 1 km at race pace, then rest for two minutes, run the next 1km at an increased pace just above race pace, then rest for two minutes. Run the next 1km at reduced pace just slower than race pace, then rest two minutes. Repeat this session one more time.

Reasoning: By executing this type of session, this will ensure that the runner sticks to the re-quired pace. Upping and slow-ing down the pace also ensures the runner’s body knows what race pace feels like.

• Endurance session

Run 1 km at your fastest pace for 15 minutes, then rest for one minute then repeat the set two more times to complete one session. Build this up so the runner can complete three sessions.

Reasoning: this type of session will build the runner’s speed endurance and ensure that conditioning maintains quick-ness and the runner is able to maintain a fast pace through-out rest periods, thereby allowing the runner to build their endurance.

These pages detail training plans utilising the information from the previous pages. The plans are easy to follow and cover 5km and 10km runs. If you stick to these plans you should see progress and they will keep you on track. The programmes will get you physically and mentally prepared for a race and this is turn will get you wanting to perform more races and progress up to half marathons. If you wish to train in a group or with a partner we also have a run club at the gym, which is in partnership with JOG SCOTLAND and runs on a Wednesday night at 7pm – 8pm as well as a Saturday morning at 10.30am - 11.30am. The class is for all levels from beginners to top athletes and is personalised for each individuals fitness level.

Nutrition has a major part to play when competing or taking part in a training programme, it is said that diet is 70% and the exercise is 30% or

performance output. As well as fitness advice we also offer nutrition advice as part of our services.

Our diet plan is a genetic meal plan for a runner, as runner’s need lots of stored energy so they can continue in a race without slowing or feeling fatigued here is a sample meal plan that a runner should be having.

FITNESSFEATURE

The following plan provides sufficient levels of all nutrients, however bear in mind that the plan is a general guide and there is no measure of portion size so you can adapt to suit your needs.

Men will also generally eat more than women. You must eat a variation of different meats, fish, complex carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables everyday.

Don’t neglect water intake as it is really important to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Disney has done it once again. The most acclaimed and successful

mass media company is still going strong. Have you ever encountered someone who has never heard of a Disney film? Or even someone who hasn’t watched one? And ‘Brave’ is just another example as to why this company is doing so well. It is clearly

doing many things very right.

‘Brave’ will go on the shelf next to the classics ‘Robin Hood’ (1973), ‘The Sword in the Stone’ (1963) and ‘Bambi’ (1942) and yet it remains one of the absolute gems that Disney have been producing over the past few years; ‘Tangled’ (2010), ‘The Avengers’ (2012) (and not to forget the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2003-2011).

I could talk to you about Disney all day but I want to bring your attention to the sheer originality of this film. Disney took a step in the right direction when they released

‘The Princess and the Frog’ in 2009 and here they have done it all over again. The pure gem of an idea is so inspiring it makes you think about the who, what, when, where and why of everything. And it’s not just the idea that amazed me but the fantastic detail to the Scottish culture. Disney surely has done it justice. They partake in the high-land games in order to win Merida (Kelly Macdonald ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’) for marriage. Merida’s mother, Elinor (Emma Thompson ‘Love Actually’) is far too controlling for her liking, but I’ll come back to that later. I want to highlight the humour that is cleverly interwoven throughout

the story (bravo to Brenda Chapman (‘Beauty and the Beast’ 1991) for that one).

Fergus (Billy Connolly ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’) is Merida’s father and the bond they share is one that makes your heart swell. Disney has gone against a stereotypical view and portrayed Fergus as a huge man but with a huge heart. He is tender towards his wife and daughter and always jok-ing. He must have been the character that made me laugh the most but I was laughing so often it would be hard to tell!

Elinor and Merida’s relationship is a little more strained simply because Elinor wants the best for her daughter and strives to turn her into the perfect princess. Me-rida, on the other hand, has a different idea about how she wants to do things and it’s this that leads her to see the Witch (Julie Walters ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1’) and messing things up. I thought that this basis of the story line could be compared to ‘The Little Mermaid’ (1989) but I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t similar enough to cause disappointment.

Merida’s character is very relatable to young children, I think. I used to love how Disney films would always teach morals and I think it’s a shame that films and TV tend to lean towards the opposite end of the stick but here I think that we have a classic example of what Disney does best. Merida is a girl that is fed up of what her mum tells her to do and she just wishes that she would listen to her. Merida’s selfishness and pride gets in the way of what really matters creating a whole world of problems. I really want to conclude this point of view but I can’t do so without giving away what happens and I don’t want to have a spoiler alert! You’ll just have to watch the film for yourself to see where I’m coming from but I can guarantee you, you won’t be disappointed.

Okay, so everybody is pretty critical of films these days but we all seriously

underestimate the genius of using such simple ideas. This is where ‘Ted’ thrives! Who didn’t wish their teddy-bear was real? And who didn’t think it would be awesome if it was?

Seth MacFarlene has made his name in the worldwide favourite comedy show ‘Family Guy’ and here he has strived out to write his own film and from my point

of view, he’s done a very good job.

The film begins with one Christmas when John receives a teddy-bear that he names Teddy. The flashback seen is narrated but the clever part is the casual humour that is slipped into the narration. This film has you chuckling before it’s even got going. The whole basis of the film is based on John’s wish that Teddy was real and when his wish comes true, Ted (the voice of Seth MacFarlane) enters superstardom but through it all he is always John’s best friend and ‘thunder-buddy’. Time passes and the film is brought to the present; John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg ‘The Italian Job’) is in a meagre job and in a relationship with Lori Collins (Mila Kunis ‘The Black Swan’), whilst Ted has faded from stardom and lives at home

with John.

Ted, who begins life as a loveable, cuddly bear, becomes a pot-smoking, sex-loving distraction in John’s life. Lori insists on John becoming a man and getting rid of his ‘teddy-bear’ but when Ted does move out, he is still the main source of distraction for John which puts even more stress on his relationship with Lori.

MacFarlane has worked hard on the flawless humour in this film which is a considerable jump from his normal line of work. It’s obvious in the well written relationship of John and Lori. Their easiness with each other and sense of fun is added to by the skills of Wahlberg and Kunis. It’s not just the relationship between John and Lori that strikes me as well written put also the clever lines that seem to slip into the film. Everything simply seems effortless and works incredibly well, including the reference to Peter Griffin from ‘Family Guy’ (another voice character of Macfarlane).

The film progresses through the struggles of John and Lori’s relationship with Ted being their ‘third-wheel’ and it highlights all the complications of growing up, moving on and participating in the adult world. Suddenly John finds his world turned upside down when he ditches Lori once again to hang out with Ted and meet his childhood idol, Sam Jones who was famous for playing the hero of science-fiction; Flash Gordon.

Here we have a film that has stood out from the crowd. The popularity that has arisen from the release of this film is well deserved and certainly necessary. Ted is a film that will have you chuckling all the way through and thinking ‘why hasn’t this been done before?!’.

The second outing of Expendables, like the previous movie, has stars,

stars and even more stars. Probably more than the original due no doubt to the level of success that move had. With action, guns and explosions galore it is perfect for those rainy Scottish summer evenings when you maybe wanna

escape for a few hours.

The movie begins immediately with Barney Ross (Stallone) leading his motley crew of Lee Christmas (Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), Toll Road (former UFC legend Randy Couture), Gunner Jensen (Lundgren) and Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth, “The Hunger Games”) as they head off on a rescue mission to Nepal. In this short mission we are treated to fights involving knives, pots and pans and also some hard-core tanks, bazookas and even a battering ram. We have a high body count already and that’s even

before ‘The Expendables 2’ titles have started rolling so it seems that the franchise has upped the ante just a tad.

Church (Bruce Willis) has called in the marker owed to him by the crew from the last mission and ac-companied by a member of his own specialist team Maggie (Nan Yu). Things don’t go as expected and they clash heavily with a sunglasses-wearing thug’s personal army.

Jean Vilain (Van Damme) teaches the crew a bit of respect so bumps off one of them causing some of the others to head out on a revenge

spree. It’s during this that we meet Booker (Chuck Norris) and things kick off in various scenarios from a fake New York city, tank fight, bomb bridges at the same time edge in a little more on screen minutes for Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The directing baton is handed to Simon West (“The Mechanic”) by Stallone and it’s a pretty smooth cross over as he seems to have a good grasp of what the Expendables audience is looking for. It actually seems that West has found a way to cram in even more, ruthless gut wrenching action but evens that out with some light hearted buddie stuff that just takes the edge off the action a wee bit and adds a tad to the overall characters.

You soon get the impression that everyone involved in the Expendables franchise is kinda in this for the long haul. They are well aware that this is a journey that is not aimed at anything other than over the top action sequences at the expense of any deeper meaning. Sure if they throw in the odd puns or jovial hat tipping references to some of their collective earlier movies then fair play to them. I think these guys are just like a gang of rich grown up kids playing soldiers in their back garden, although they do get to do it with big guns, big vehicles and even bigger explosions. For some this has been their biggest success for a few years and they are loving every minute.

If there was anything to maybe maon about ti would be the on screen time that some of the characters get, I’d like to see more of my favs and I’m sure

other people would as well. I would also love to see a few other ‘Hollywood’ stars popping up in cameos from time to time to add to the dynamic or just for some light relief from time to time. It’s a pretty sweet formulae and I suppose if the team see it as a long term road trip then we just have to wait for Expendables 3, 4 and so on.

As an action franchise which doesn’t take itself too seriously, and always airs on the good v’s evil struggle I think The Expendables just about hits the nail firmly on the head and I’m sure, if taken for what it is, everyone will have a blast watching this move and I for one am looking forward to a long and lasting action-packed relationship.

We all remember the Scot-tish singer who wowed the judges last year only to be controversially

dropped at the Judges' Houses stage in 2011, well she’s BACK.

Jade Richards astonishes the judges again when she appears at the 2012 Glasgow auditions, this time with a brand new look.

"I got to Judges' Houses last year. I was in Kelly Rowland's group. When she first said I was going home, I was so gutted. After that I was like, 'Right, I just have to get on with it, get started again, get gigging. I started going to the gym and lost quite a bit of weight... When I got the ‘no’ it made me more determined to come back. Puts some fire into you, I think."

Last year Louis Walsh was reduced to tears by Rich-ards's initial performance and Gary Barlow claimed that her performance would "change her life".

As we know that didn’t quite happen and Jade returned to Scotland and her studies after Sophie Ha-bibis, Amelia Lily, Janet Devlin and Misha Bryan were all chosen as Rowlands finalists for the TV rounds of the program.

In 2012 Jade again seems to have blown the judges away and guest judge Anastacia said "I have hairs on my body that are standing up that I didn't know existed" after hearing her sing.

Walsh adds: "I loved you last year, I love you this year. You're looking totally different, you're looking great!"

Jade’s audition will NOT air on this weekend's X Fac-tor but will be shown plus an interview afterwards on The Xtra Factor, hosted by Caroline Flack.

THE X FACTOR HITSSCOTLAND

X Factor bosses have recently been accused of being a little un-

fair with fans of the show by limiting the actual audition singing down to a measly eight minutes in what is a 1 hour long slot. Some of the shows will contain as little as five full auditions.

Criticism has been levelled at the show amid fears that the show was finally running out of UK talent after its lengthy nine years spell and of course the obvious slump in viewing figures which recently fell to their lowest level since 2006.

Simon Cowell himself has himself admitted that the 2011 series was probably “sub-standard”, and explained that, “There wasn’t

enough raw talent. It won’t hap-pen again. The selection process has to be better.” Cowell is said to be privately frustrated that no act to date had really caught the public’s imagination.

Newly added Judge Nicole Scher-zinger has also had a wee go at the lack of any real decent acts throughout the auditions so far. “It’s a Talent-Free Zone. I expected more.” She said of Newcastle’s auditions.Although Judge Tulisa Contostav-los defended the show insisting that the show was “all about the music”.

Fans have also had a go at some of the X Factor’s recent format elements; one in particular featur-ing a single artist for 10 minutes sandwiched between ad breaks, and blamed the shows editors for ruining it.

“The problem is the one audition part. It’s all the c****y filler and Towie-style rubbish that’s making

the show drag” said one fan post-ing online "It’s the X Factor’s own editing team that’s killing off the show, not ITV.”

While another fan posted: “What has happened to The X Factor? The format is like Towie!” and Joshua Griffiths asked “What the hell is this new X Factor format about?”

On top of the recent ratings slump these criticisms from fans are probably going to make ITV more than a little anxious. The 2012 show kicked off this year with only 8.1 million viewers, which is a fall of nearly three million from the opening show of the 2011 series and a whopping four million behind the 2010 launch.

An X Factor spokesman has insisted that “We’re featuring the same amount of singers in the audition shows as we did last year, but we believe the standard of talent is higher in 2012.”

Ruth Jones has already said that she has “no plans” to write any more episodes of the show as she and co-star and co-writer James Corden were both “re-ally busy”.

On the other hand Corden has rubbished claims that he said there was “definitely” going to be a come-back, but strangely did add “maybe one day”.

Rumours that the Syco boss could pos-sibly be returning to the British version of the show as a guest judge have been rife online for a while now. It was touted that he may appear during some of the Live Shows or maybe as the ‘Voice of

Talking to The Guardian newspaper about Cowell being involved in the UK show, Thames managing director Holloway told them “Simon will appear in some guise somewhere.”When pressed for more info he tease them saying “That would be giving it away, wouldn’t it... That’s all I’m prepared to say... It’s not a hologram.”

The current time travelling Dr told the press that an enemy from the show’s original 1963-1989 season could make a possible appearance

in a forthcoming episode.

“Perhaps there are some classic monsters coming back,” he hinted. “There’s one I’m very intrigued by, which we haven’t seen for quite some time.”

On the reappearance of a possible enemy Smith explained “It’s a thing we haven’t seen since the series returned to our screens in 2005.”

Another fav from the past who have already ap-peared in previous episodes of this reboot are the Daleks and they will be reappearing in the Doctor Who series seven premiere which airs in both the UK and US on September 1.

Red Dwarf fans were slapped with a bizarre means of finding out the UK air date for the

BRAND NEW Red Dwarf Series X.

A ‘care package’ containing beer and curry has been made ready to be sent where no beer and curry has gone before - out into space!!!!! To the shows character Dave Lister (Craig Charles) to be precise by means of a helium filled balloon.

The balloon will automatically be filled, bit by tiny bit, with helium every time a Twitter user tweets the hashtags #vindalunar or #RedDwarfX. When the balloon is at its optimum level of helium it will be launched (well let go really) along with the news that fans have been waiting for, the airdate of the show’s tenth series which will air sometime this autumn on the DAVE channel.

Fans can watch the balloon being filled live on the Dave website @

Regarding concerns about the decline of

the UK shows ratings, Holloway insisted that he wasn’t worried and argued that the talent show was to continue to be made and that it just has to evolve to maintain its previous large audiences.

“I’ve got some thoughts in terms of that in the future, especially with all the tech-nology we have and YouTube and Google and Skype. There are ways we should be exploring making these shows even more personal,” he said. “Bringing the people at home into the show, there’s a rich vein there.”

Damn you zom-bies... Giving me crazy nightmares. Oh James will you

review season 2 of the walking dead? What the hell was I thinking. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of all things walking

dead. The comic series is outstanding, and the xbox live game is awesome but still. A whole season of the walking dead in 2 days. I may never sleep again.

It all starts off where the last one ended. Obviously. Well where the hell else would it start. On the

moon. Actually I'd watch that. Zom-bies floating around on the moon... Anyway it quickly establishes the storyline for the season.

It has a much better arc than the first one which just seemed to have random episodes after RIck caught up with his family. There are a few lulls in the series which you really felt when it was on weekly but they aren't as noticeable when you

Page 110 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 111: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

PAGE 111SEP 2012 - issue (21)

watch them right after each other. It also seems to follow the comic a little more this season, with them ending up on Hershel’s farm pretty early on. Though hav-ing read the comic I already knew a few of the major storyline points for the season. But I enjoyed waiting for them to happen. The show now seems to have found it's feet a little more.

With episodes concentrating on different cast members. Not quite in a crazy LOST fashion but it works well when you get to know the other characters a little better. You can understand when they run off and do stupid stuff. Which is always going to happen in a zombie setting.

It's like people take stupid pills and get all emotional. Let's face it, the best thing to do is just kill everyone before they get you killed. That probably wouldn't make for good TV drama though.

As previously mentioned there is a slight lull in the middle of the season as they attempt to find a missing member of the party. The biggest complaint I've heard

Page 112: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

about this season was that this took far too long to resolve itself and not a lot happened during that time. It is true there is a much lower zombie count in this season which you feel especially in these episodes. But in it's defence whenever there is a big zombie attack people die. If they constantly had attacks there wouldn't be much of a cast left by the end of the show.

This season also seems to have a slightly lower budget. At times this can be really noticeable especially with some of the special effects. This may also explain the low zombie count. Odd though since it's one of the biggest cable shows in the states. Most of the season is also set in one place. But that's the fickle world of TV for you. You have to make things

cost effective if you don't want them to get cancelled as the budget spirals out of control. It still looks good for TV.

So what's going to happen next for the survivors, there's a hint at the end of the last episode which makes me feel all giddy with pleasure. Like total sexual pleasure but I'll let you get to that one yourself. Though if you haven't read the comics you may be like "what the hell is that meant to be?" but we know... Oh yes we know.

Personally I can't wait for the next season to arrive. It won't be long now too. Outstanding show. If you aren't watching it. Why the hell not? It makes me sex wee in my pants.

Day 54

BONG: TASK : Adam assigned prizes to the nine housemates in secret in the Diary Room, the hm’s then gathered in the garden and invited to step on a box containing their prize. The hm who stays on their box the longest wins what’s in the box. At around 12 hours 4 hm’s remain Adam, Deana and the 2 Lukes. Eventually Luke S decides to step down leaving only the Outsiders remaining. Within a few minutes Luke a jumps down happy only that he lasted longer than his nemesis. From then on it was a surprise to me that Deana let Adam win rather than Adam doing the honourable thing.

Day 55

BONG: Big Brothers Confession booth hits the house to allow hms to repent their sins:

Adam: Lusting over the girls.Conor: Anger at hm’s.Deana: Rules breaking.Luke S: Being gullible.Becky: Hiding food.Luke A: Being envious.Ashleigh: Being brutal with words.Scott: Being lustful.

Big Brother asks hms to absolve their sins with various good deeds, mainly to hm’s they don’t like.

Day 56

BONG: NOMINATIONS: Hm’s friends and family do the nominations this week and up for eviction are Ashleigh, Deana, Luke A and Becky.

The main thing to come out of the noms is Luke A’s ‘BMI‘ com-ment about Becky which seems to have riled her up far more than she should have been for someone who constantly jokes about her weight?

Day 57

BONG: SHOPPING TASK: The White Room

Luke S, Sara, Scott and Conor have to decide which three would

REVIEWI t’s time for the last rundown of what went on in the Big Brogher 3/2012.We still have the Outsiders surviving so far with Luke A, Adam and Deana fighting their corner pretty well against the Insiders and Floaters. So how does the last few weeks hold up and whats our overall opinion of how

things went this year.…

compete for ‘a prize money couldn’t buy’. Scott lets the other 3 enter the WHITE ROOM. One of the 3 would win a pass to the final if they were last in the room. If a hm wants to leave they simply hit their red buzzer. Over a four days spell the three will live in the white room together, eating white food, drinking white liquid etc. etc. etc. To win the shopping the white room competes with other hm’s in various tasks all they need to do is beat the white room to win a luxury budget.

Day 58

BONG: Conor tells Luke S and Sara that he isn’t on the show for money and that he just wanted to win the show. He also keeps repeating his feelings throughout their time in the white room that if he didn’t get the pass to the final he would be evicted soon as more people disliked him than Luke S.

BONG: Big Brother informed the White room that they had to decide which of the three should leave. Putting herself forward, Sara said: “If people want me out, I’d rather leave than get to the final.” And returns to the main house.

Day 59

BONG: EVICTION: Becky became the ninth person to be evicted from the Big Brother as all 3 of the outsiders are saved by the public.

BONG: SHOPPING TASK THE WHITE ROOM: While still live on tv, Conor and Luke S were told that they would both see an increasing amount of money appear on the screen in front of them. As the amount increased one of them has the choice to press their buzzer and leave immediately with the cash shown on screen. The person remaining would then win the free pass to the final.

As the screen started ticked Conor convinces Luke S to press the buzzer, as the counter gets to £50,000 it stops and a few alarms sound (basically telling them that it wasn’t going any higher) on seeing Luke S’s over exaggerated arm lifting to signal he was about to press his buzzer, Conor presses the buzzer and leaves the house £50,000 richer and Luke S with a guaranteed place in the final.

Day 60

BONG: White Room Aftermath: Luke S is still fuming about Conor pressing the buzzer after insisting he wasn’t in the show for money and wanted to win. Telling Conor before he left “I can’t believe you did that to me,” Luke S couldn’t hold in his tears. Even a pass to the final couldn’t bring a smile out of Luke S, berating Conor as a liar.

Day 61

BONG: TASK: hm’s drink mysterious magic potion in the diary

Page 116: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

Page 116 SEP 2012 - issue (21)

room. The other hms have to guess what the potion does based on how the hm acts. If they get enough correct they win a party. All the hms correctly guessed their potion types and therefore won a party.

At the party Deana gets drunk and starts ribbing Luke S about Conor beating him to the £50,000 by repeating “The motto is push the button quicker!” etc. in the face of an increasingly frustrated Luke S.

Day 62

BONG: Deana was feeling bad about upsetting Luke S so asked Luke S if they were still doing a workout session that day to which he quietly replied yes. Deana then told Luke S: “I’m sorry, it was very insensitive of me,” Luke S diplomatically accepted her apology.

BONG: BB treats the housemates to a KFC feast in front of the plasma as Big Brother plays their launch night video profiles. All the hms cringed as they saw themselves up on the screen and many giggled at their fellow hms VTs.

Day 63

BONG: FINAL NOMINATIONS: Luke S was not eligible for nomination due to his pass so once counted up the hm’s up this week are Scott, Adam, Deana and Ashleigh. With no nominations for Sara and one for Luke A, both joined Luke S in the final. Two of these four will be leaving Friday in a double eviction.

BONG: Scott gets a secret task to win a party. Big Brother announced to the house: “Congratulations Scott, you have completed your secret mission,” promptly calling him to the Diary room. Scott is told to tell his hms that he had been working with Big Brother from day one. If he manages to convince them that he had failed tasks, start-ed arguments and generally been told what to do by Big Brother in order to get to the final, he would win a party for the house. Scott succeeds and the hm’s win a party.

BONG: Unfortunately Ashleigh, Luke S and Deana were all banned from taking part in Scott’s party due to talking about noms.

Day 64

BONG: FINAL TASK: hm’s take part in a museum task where some are exhibits and 2 are guards. Sara and Scott took on the roles of security guards while the other hm’s become various exhibit char-acters. The exhibits need to stay silent and still during the task while the security guards keep watch and do inspections to catch any noise or movement. The real task however is to make sure that the security guards had no idea that the exhibits are able to sneak out to a secret room and party all day, only rushing back for inspections while the guards watch a looped tape of the first hour of the task.

After a while on the task and some good food and drink things be-come rather rowdy and noisy.

BONG: Big Brother gathered the housemates later on to find out the results of the task. As Sara and Scott had basically worked out that

all was not what it seemed due to the noise etc. the hms had failed the task and would get a basic budget.

DAY 65

BONG: Hms dressed up tonight for the first ever ‘Nommy Awards’ to celebrate ‘outstanding achievements in the field of nominat-ing’. With a few categories to win from, the hm with the most awards at the end of the ceremony would win a VIP dinner with three other hms of their choice. The hms all laughed for the most part and some of the awards were:

BONG: ‘The Special Achievement for the Worst Nominator’ - SaraBONG: ‘Public Enemy’ award for the most nominations - Deana BONG: ‘Hair and make-up’ - Scott BONG: ‘Kiss of Death’ - Ashleigh

BONG: Luke S eventually picked up most awards and chose Ashleigh, Scott and Sara to join him for a Michelin star VIP dinner.

DAY 66

BONG: Today Big Brother set hms a limbo task and they won drink and treats for that evening. The housemates came together to toast their good fortune at reaching the final. Had some tunes played and had a dance before splitting off into their groups once the music finished.

DAY 67

BONG: TASK: Creepy clown Mr Snuggles has been brought in to give some of the hms a makeover. Ashleigh won boyfriend Luke S a haircut by getting a fishy hair wash. Adam and Luke A Scott failed to win Sara a treatment after washing off his ‘special snuggles tan’ and Luke A and Adam won Deana a facial and mani-pedi.

BONG: DOUBLE EVICTION: Scott and then Ashleigh became the latest housemates to be evicted from the Big Brother 2012 house. Leaving the finalists to be Luke A, Luke S, Adam, Sarah and Deana.

DAY 68

BONG: Journalist and media guru Nina Myskow has been brought into the house to help the hms with some tips on how to handle other celebs, fans, media etc.

DAY 69

BONG: ‘Last Supper’ for the hms... they tucked into a full roast dinner cooked by head chef Luke A with the other hms help. The final five reminisced over their time in the house.

The three Outsiders-turned-soldiers talked about their time in the house.

“I felt sometimes I couldn’t move from this spot,” said Luke A.Deana and Adam agreed, with Deana stating “we made it in the end. We’re off duty now.”

DAY 70 – THE FINAL

BONG: As the last day dawns on the bb house Luke A and Sara are surprisingly already out of their pits before the lights are even switched on. It’s the final day and obviously tensions are high.

BONG: EVICTION : Luke S has finished in fifth place and lost out on yet another 50k cash prize.

BONG: EVICTION : Sara finishes in fourth position leaving the Outsiders/Soldiers as the final 3.

BONG: THIRD : Miss India UK Deana Uppal has claimed third place.

BONG: RUNNER UP : Adam Kelly from Dudley (via Los Angeles) is your Big Brother 13/2012 second placed hm.

BONG: WINNER : After 70 Days, some moans and groans, a mas-sive pile of rollups and a pretty serious bro-mance our house chef Luke Anderson has left the BB House as your winner!

Well done…!!!!!

So BB is over for an-other year (well the Celebrity version does kick of 2 days after this

one ends). How’s it been for you? For me, this year was a pretty landmark year for the program as yet again a set of ‘interesting’ characters actu-ally won out against all odds over a large group of ‘fun’ characters. I think this year has been the most divided and bitchiest houses in a long, long time. But like last year an inelegant ‘character’ won the big prize, but this year the ‘fun’ element were weeded out before the final really bar perhaps 2 of the final 7.

Channel 5/Endemol made a few fundamental mistakes this series.

I think initially letting the hms talk about their nominations was the wrong thing to do BUT it seemed that they were happy for 1 group to plan and plot against the other but once the other group got together and attempted to group nominate they stopped it… very strange? Was as if BB openly favoured one group over another?

They also didn’t particularly deal with the subjects of ‘bullying’ and ‘cheating’ very well for me. Bullying is a very tricky area and can be done in so many ways so I think the best way to treat it is with a ZERO toler-ance. So when someone threatens physical violence against another hm (be it behind their back) they should simply be thrown out, not given another chance. Consistent rule breakers also seemed to have a free ride in this years show.Highlights of this year would, for me anyway, revolve pretty much around the battle between ‘Good vs Evil’ where very soon into the series we

saw one group ostracised from the rest of the house. Even the floaters this year were extremely bitchy and were quite happy to bitch between camps rather than staying neutral throughout. I think this is why so many of the weaker ones went rather than remaining until the end.

The strange ending of Facebook vot-ing also hangs a grey cloud over this year’s show, It being widely thought by various online fan forums that Fa-cebook voting helped some people stay in the house longer than they should have. Due perhaps to their already established and actively run Facebook and Twitter accounts that were used to promo those hms throughout the show.

In a nutshell, BB 13 was one of the better shows in past years and defo hints that there is still a good bit of live left in the old dog yet.

Now who’s in Celeb BB this time round….?????

Even more zombies... What is this zombie month? Anyway next up is the Spanish [rec]3 Genesis. The third in the [rec] series. You may have noticed from the

3 in the title. No, okay then. To get you up to date with the series. The first one is awesome and was remade pretty much shot for shot as Quarantine. The second was a bit pants though I keep getting told by people that it’s awesome. It really wasn’t, but I’m not going to argue about it. A lot of people enjoyed it. I wasn’t one of them. Funnily enough a lot of those people didn’t like this one. They’re wrong.

This is the first one of the series that takes place outside the building of the original. The change of scenery really does the film a world of good and refreshes the series. It all takes place at a wedding and has the classic ‘being shot by the people there’ feel of the original. It doesn’t keep it up for the whole film though. Easing fans of the series in a new direc-tion. New setting, new way of shooting. What? What? What? Why do they change these things? Because they aren’t from Hollywood and don’t feel the need to shove the same film down our throats twenty times maybe. Just a thought.

TV&DVDREVIEWS

Anyway, this film is really enjoyable. It has the classic “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING???” moments every zombie film has. I mean at one point I was shouting at the screen but it doesn’t ruin your enjoyment. It just makes you realise that people are really stupid. I’m really looking forward to the next film in the series. Hopefully they’ll keep up with the changes made here and just have films set with zombie attacks happening in various areas of Spain. If you don’t mind subtitles you should definitely get this film. If you do mind subtitles then go to restaurants with pictures of food on the menu and keep watching Battleships.

Luc Besson has produced some great films over the last few years. The Transporter, Taxi, Taken. So when a new film arrives that has a Luc Besson

producer credit on it. I’m gonna go see it. Add to that Guy Pearce and what the hell can go wrong.

Well quite a few things apparently. FIrst up the film is basically a bit of a Snake Plisskin rip off but not as good. Yeah that’s even including Escape from LA. The effects are so bad at one point it was like watching a computer game you had no control over. Like Drag-ons Lair or Space Ace.

Don’t get me wrong the film is a bit of fun but you can’t help but feel you’ve seen it all before, and done a little better too. Guy Pearce has a rather unlikable character that tries to be really cool but falls short.

The bad guys are various good British actors and do a decent job of being demented but some of the talent is a little wasted. What am I talking about? All the talent in this film is wasted. Even the bint from LOST who was awful in the horrendous remake of The Fog can do better. She was in Taken.

Saying all that though, there’s a lot worse out there right now and the film is enjoyable. It just in no way

lives up to expectations. It’s the film equivalent of chatting up a hot girl all night, getting her home and finding out she’s a guy. Unless you’re talking about Chloe Sevigny in the recent Hit & Miss because I’d still go there... I bring that up because Vincent Regan from the show is in Lockout. Not because I can’t stop think-ing about Chloe Sevigny with a penis... Ahem.

Time for more zombies. Not just any zombies however. Nazi zombies. For when normal zombies just aren’t nasty enough. Saying that though

they aren’t your usual breed of zombie. They attack people with their Nazi knives more than bite their faces off. Damn Nazi’s.

This is the follow up to the rather enjoyable Ray Ste-venson film Outpost in which a team of mercenaries are caught in a bunker with some rather unsavoury zombie types.

This film goes back to the bunker, this time how-ever you follow a woman who hunts down Nazi war criminals and an old friend she meets up with on the way who seems to be after some sciency type stuff. The zombies seem to be reaching out to the local community, getting further out towards civilisation. So the powers that be have sent in a group of soldiers to clear up the mess too. Huzzah.

This sequel is far superior to the original. It has a much better plot and character development for the main characters. I have no idea why they decided to give Richard Coyle and American accent though. His character could easily have been English and you wouldn’t have spent the whole time fixated on his rather dubious tones. The background guys are liter-ally just cannon fodder. You really don’t care when

TV&DVDREVIEWS they die. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like watching

Suckerpunch when you actually kind of look forward to them dying but most of the time you don’t even realise which one just took a knife to the face.

Don’t worry if you missed the first one, you don’t need to have seen the first one to enjoy Black Sun. Other than location they have very little in common. You should definitely check this out if you get the chance.

Don’t pay horrendous amounts of money for it but if you see it for a fiver it’s worth a look. It stretches a low budget well and there are far worse films out there. And it has Nazi Zombies in it. NAZI ZOMBIES.

You know that feeling you have when you’re sure you were meant to do something but can’t quite remember what.

This month, that was my review for Black Dynamite. Unbelievably I totally forgot about it. Strange since it was the film looking forward to talking about most of all this month. Dagnam-mit.

“DYNAMITE!! DYNAMITE!!”

Black Dynamite is one of the funniest films I’ve seen in the last few years. Within the first 5 minutes I had snort-ed cola out my nose, more than once. It wasn’t pretty I assure you. Especially from the rather disgusted look my wife gave me. But it’s that funny. You can keep your Hangover style big budget Hollywood comedies that come out. This was shot on Super 16 in 20 days and manages to outstrip them all.

“DYNAMITE!! DYNAMITE!!”

Being an homage to Blaxploitation the plot kind of jumps about a lot. But this was a regular occurrence in Blaxploi-tation films. Personally I love films

like Black Samurai and Scream Blacula Scream. These films were so rushed and the budget was so low the film makers didn’t get the chance to reshoot scene after scene. They aren’t known for their continuity, and Black Dynamite keeps up with that tradition.

“DYNAMITE!! DYNAMITE!!”

The music and cast all embrace the feel of the mid seventies. It’s all done perfectly. Better than most of the recent Grindhouse style films that attempt to recapture the feel of older films. You can pick this film up for under a fiver. Buy it. It’s the film everyone should have been talking about in 2010 and if you saw it, you probably were.

With the release of Dawngaurd having just passed, Bethesda are not wasting time on reveal-ing their new upcoming DLC

Hearthfire.

In Hearthfire you can now join factions, build your own house, get married and even adopt children. So far it seems nothing to do with more adventuring but more to do with settle down and gaining home-grown resources instead of

hunting for them.

Probably the weirdest part is the adoption mechanic, apart from having a kid around the house I can’t see the point in it but there is still time for more information to be released as the DLC will be released on September 4th for X-box, there isn’t any information revealed yet concerning PC or PS3 re-lease date. PS3 users are actually still waiting for the release of Skyrim’s first DLC Dawngaurd.

The multiplayer map Nuketown from Black Ops will return to Black Ops 2 for those who pre-order the game but this time you will be fighting off hordes of the undead. Nuketown will also have a new futuristic look to it, I guess to fit in with the

theme of the game being set in the near future.

This is the first conformation that has been released considering Zombies returning but it is to be expected whenever it’s Treyarch’s turn to produce a Call of Duty game. The conformation was released on the Call of Duty Twitter page via image.Hopefully in the near future Activision will release more information on its zombie mode.

Sleeping Dogs, originally part of the True Crime game se-ries but now made

by Square Enix, is an open world, action packed game that will have you speeding and ass kicking your way through Hong Kong. Will sleeping dogs stand out on its own or will it be another wanna be GTA game.

The story of Sleeping Dogs takes place in Hong Kong and you play un-dercover cop Wei Shan, who returns to Hong Kong from America. Your task is to infiltrate a very powerful Triad gang known as the Sun On Yee and bring down their criminal organisation, starting off from the bottom ranks and proving yourself loyal, Wei will face not only rival gangs but face emotional difficulties of being undercover. Like all games like these the story at the begin-

ning is slow but then about halfway through that’s when it starts to get deeper.

Sleeping dogs drops you in a GTA style open world adventure in the vast and vivid city of Hong Kong. It’s not the actual geographic Hong Kong but more of a fictional take on the city but does represent it very well. Walking through the night market with all the vendors and cheap clothes up for sale it really feels authentic in the back streets of Hong Kong. Not like GTA where you would need to progress through the game in order to access another part of the city, you are free to roam anywhere as you please from the beginning.

The combat is where the game really thrives, with help of UFC fighter George St Pierre you can expect the fighting to brutal, and that it is. The combat is easy to get use to and the batman style counter attack can make it all too similar. But with a variety of different and unlockable moves the game flourishes on its own. Fighting in a brutal way such

as using environmental takedowns boosts your triad experience, by throwing your foe onto a crate filled with sword fish heads sticking up or casting onto a meat holder, it really fits in well as the triads would naturally use such violence. Coming across a weapon in the game is a rare occasion and only really happens during missions then keeping the weapon once the mission is completed. Only two weapons can be on Wei, a primary and secondary weapon so no full arsenal of guns and explosives like GTA, Sleeping Dogs is all about the hand to hand combat.

Through completing favours for friends or strangers and winning street races you gain face which leads to perks such as a personal car valet and more clothes to purchase, and by completing missions and side quest’s you gain points in both the Triads and Police which then allow you to trade in for unique skills. There are many collectables throughout the game, some being ancient Jade statues that can be traded to a Kung Fu master to learn new combat techniques. Others are shrines that when prayed in front of a certain amount can increase Wei’s health meter.

Sleeping dogs definitely stands out on its own to me, with its own take of a free roam action game and an enticing story that gets more enjoyable as you keep playing it. Smooth mechanics and a great combat system do make it a truly great game

With a successful first game to the series for War can THQ give Death a game

just as great as the first? With more time on the developer’s hands this time they created a bigger, badder and better game for us to experience.

Darksiders 2 begins during the exile of War, the protagonist of Darksiders, whom was wrongly convicted of causing the start of the apocalypse. Now playing as his lovable bro Death, the eldest and most feared of the 4 Horsemen, you must help your brother and learn why War was convicted for crimes he did not commit. Starting off by seeking out an old “friend” the Keeper Of Secrets, the

Page 135: SEP 2012 - issue (21)

PAGE 135SEP 2012 - issue (21)

CrowFather and throw this ordeal Death learns he must seek the Tree of Life for the answers he wants. Obviously it isn’t going to be that easy with corruption spreading throughout all the realms and an unexpect-ed enemy will try and stop the Horseman.

The game almost seems completely dif-ferent compared to the original. Unlike Darksiders, Darksiders 2 has more of an RPG feeling to the game with valuable loot to take and stat boosts to gear and weapons. Also the game is far more vast and vivid as Darksiders was based in earth and 2 travelling between different realms, the developers really got to create imaginative worlds for us to explore. Beginning in an ice covered landscape, to lush and beautiful grounds every realm is different.

Quests have been expanded and bigger than ever and side-quests are a new addition to

the series giving more areas to explore, some of which you won’t be able to access until you have gained certain abilities such as the Death Grip. Side-quests consist of more enemies to face, loot and exceptional Bosses to vanquish.

In Darksiders 2 there are tons of varieties of different weap-ons to choose from ranging from multiple different scythes as your primary weapon and the choice of a seemingly unending supply of different axes, hammers, glaives (slow weapon) to claws, gauntlets and armblades (fast) as a choice of secondary weapons allowing to master more than just Death’s dual scythes.

Death is more agile and athletic than war, allowing him to run up and across walls to reach his goals and fives a more dynamic feel and maybe that each horsemen will have their own separate abilities. I will admit that the free running is perfect as you can only climb up at ledges that have certain layout which can be annoying as there are some parts that you could reach easily, so the game is not Assassins Creed when it comes to free running.

One little odd thing I noticed is that your dreaded reputation as Death, the most feared of the horsemen and a lot more in-timidating nicknames doesn’t seem to affect your encounters with other NPC’s, they just merely notice you and treat you as a crappy errand boy. Nobody cowers in terror at my pres-ence and pleads for mercy or willingly gives me any informa-tion without me having to go and collect or kill something for them.

As expected with RPG games there will always be a bug problem tagging along with it, they’re not bad but there noticeable enough to want it gone so hopefully there will be a patch coming soon to sort them out.

With puzzles to solve, dark and vast dungeons to traverse and many enemies to lay to rest, you may not feel like the bringer of death in conversation but you do when you slay your enemies with a fast cold pace, that’s truly when you feel like the reaper, hopefully with patches on the way it help fine the game more but either way the game is still one epic journey that needs to be experienced.

When it comes to the Trans-formers their games haven’t

always been that successful but when High Moon Studios took over the Transformers games and released War of Cybertron that changed eve-

rything. Now with their new-est game Fall of Cybertron, it is just as good if not better than its predecessor.

Fall of Cybertron takes place after the events of War of Cybertron, the Autobots lose the war and most make their escape not only from the Decep-ticons but from a dying Cybertron. You will take control of both Autobot and

Decepticon characters through 13 ex-ceptional chapters. The way the story is merged it almost seems that you’re battling yourself just to add to the storyline until you ultimately choose a side at the end.Visually the game is pretty impressive, from character details to beautiful ex-plosions. You can really see the effort that was put into creating a vibrant and beautiful robotic world. Also for fans of the cartoon transformers, Fall

of Cybertron uses the old character designs from the original cartoon and close to the old toys designs.

Fall of Cybertron is a third person shooter only difference is that your robots. Gameplay is often changed by the ability to be able to transform into your vehicle were it be ground or air based and does a great job mixing them in and helps changes the battle in your favour.

The Multiplayer is just as action packed as the campaign and equally as fun. You can create a character for your multiplayer, well they say create your own character but really is just taking parts of existing transformers and create your own, but neither the less it’s fun to a have to have your own look online. You have 5 different game modes online included the standard teamdeath match and capture the flag. There is also a horde mode that

you can play with friends and battle waves of enemies.

The game may not follow the Michael Bay Story but it is more action packed and explosive than his movies from start to finish and better yet you experience the thrill ride. If you’re a fan of the Transformers then this is a must play.

CLASSIC MOVIE POSTERS 101

Ocean’s 11 is a 1960 heist film directed by Lewis Milestone and starring five Rat Packers: Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Joey Bishop. A gang of World War II 82nd Airborne veterans are recruited by Danny Ocean (Sinatra) and Jimmy Foster (Lawford) to rob five different Las Vegas casinos (Sahara, Riviera, Desert Inn, Sands, and The Flamingo) on a single night.

Peter Lawford was first told of the basic story of the film by director Gilbert Kay who had heard the idea from a gas station attendant. Lawford eventually bought the rights in 1958 imagining William Holden in the lead. Sinatra became interested in the idea and a variety of different writers worked on the project. When Lawford first told Sinatra of the story, Sinatra joked “Forget the movie, let’s pull the job!”The opening animated title sequence was designed by Saul Bass. The closing shot shows the main cast walking away from the funeral home, with a marquee behind them listing their names as headliners.A successful series of remakes was kicked off in 2001.
