Monthly meetings, webinars and site visits CAC is a network of volunteers across the
country that brings a public voice and community perspective to federal corrections.
The mandate of CAC is to observe correctional activities and operations, to liaise with staff,
offenders, the general public, and other organizations interested in public safety and to
provide advice to senior CSC leaders in the on correctional programs, policies and issues.
CAC and CSC are valued partners and work together to enhance public safety.
Brief Biography – Arlene Kent-Wilkinson, RN, CPMHN(c), BSN, MN, PhD Dr. Kent-Wilkinson, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, is a nurse educator who has launched and taught many forensic nursing courses and programs, and online graduate and undergraduate courses on Aboriginal health. She has been recognized nationally and internationally for her pioneering work in forensic nursing education and practice leadership. Currently, Arlene chairs the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses (CFMHN) Education committee, leading the authorship of many CFMHN documents and position papers. Arlene is also the Local Chair of the Correctional Services Canada (CSC) Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Regional Psychiatric Centre and Saskatoon Parole office. In addition, Arlene is a member of the Executive Committee (representing the College of Nursing) on the Centre for Forensic Behavioral Science and Justice Studies (CFBSJS), which is a multidisciplinary Level B Research Centre at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2012, as PI, Arlene conducted a province-wide needs assessment and environmental scan of: The needs of and services for mentally disordered offenders in the province of Saskatchewan. Arlene has over 30 years of direct clinical experience in mental health including areas of forensic psychiatric/mental health, corrections, acute care psych, addictions and emergency nursing. Biography – Arlene Kent-Wilkinson, RN, CPMHN(c), BSN, MN, PhD Since 2002, Dr. Kent-Wilkinson has been on faculty at the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, SK. She is currently an Associate Professor who teaches in the areas of mental health and addiction, and Aboriginal health issues at the graduate level. Currently Arlene is the SK provincial representation on the board of the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses (CFMHN). Since 2016, Dr. Kent-Wilkinson has been Chair the CFMHN Education committee, leading the authorship of many CFMHN documents. Dr. Kent-Wilkinson has initiated and led research teams for successful, productive outcomes that have resulted in numerous publications (over 30) and presentations (over 125). Arlene’s leadership in nursing practice draws from a strong clinical base of over 30 years of

clinical nursing practice in forensic psychiatric nursing (18 years), correctional nursing (3 years), psych mental health nursing, addictions nursing (casual 8 years), and emergency nursing (8-9 years). Arlene’s teaching experience as a sessional instructor dates back to 1993 after completing her masters in nursing, and her online course development experience dates back to 1996 when she first began online forensic course development, content writing, and online teaching.
Arlene is the recipient of many provincial, national and international awards for her work in education leadership and practice. A few of which were: in 1997 the Pioneer Award from the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) the highest honor granted by IAFN for Arlene’s development of the first forensic educational course in 1995 (classroom) and in 1997 (online); and in 2002 the Provincial Award of Excellence in Education, from the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses (AARN). More recently, Arlene was the 2017 recipient of the SRNA Jean Browne Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice Leadership, from the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association, and the 2017 Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) 150 nurses for Canada 150, nominated by SRNA.
