"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you will surely die and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself."
EZEKIEL 33: 7-9
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 16
THE WATCHMAN’S TASK• To be alert while
others sleep
• To sound a warning when there is danger
What kind of watchman are you? Would you
want?
Alert, dependable and focused or asleep,
distracted and unreliable
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 17
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 18
WHY SHOULD WE OBEY?• We are appointed by God as watchmen to give
His warning of the coming judgment.
• “He who has my commands and keeps them, he it is who loves me and I will love Him and will disclose myself to him.” (John 14:21)
• Freely we have received, freely we should give.
• If we neglect our duty we can expect consequences
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 19
WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL IT MAKE?
CORRECT FALSE VIEWS• Some need to have their view of God
corrected• Some say, “My God is love and He would
never send people to hell.”
• These are people who are creating a god in an image to their own liking.
(Psalm 115)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 20
And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:15
WHAT IF THE BIBLE IS TRUE?
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 21
ACCOUNTABILITY• If we live we live to the Lord and if we die, we
die to the Lord, so whether we live or die we are the Lord’s. (Romans 14:8)
• Each person will give an account of themselves to God. (Hebrews 9:27; Romans 14:9-12)
• Only by allowing Christ to pay the penalty for our sin will we be able to satisfy the wrath of God for our sin. (1 John 2:2; 4:10)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 22
FORGIVEN
Only by receiving Christ as our Savior for the forgiveness of sin can we be saved from the wrath that is to come.
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 23
FEAR AND HOPE• We must be willing to tell both of God’s hope
and His judgment without fear (1 John 4:7-21)• To present only the Lord’s positive incentives
for obedience is to give only half of the truth which is being guilty of the sin of omission. (Amos 1-9)
• If anyone knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (James 4)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 24
RESPONSIBILITY FOR EACH ONE
• Responsibility lies with every individual to choose to accept Christ as Savior.
• People cannot give the excuse: “What about all those who have never heard the gospel?
• God told Jeremiah, “You will find Me when you search and seek for me with all your heart.”(Jeremiah 29:13)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 25
FEAR NOT• We should not worry about peoples’ response as
much as our responsibility to share the gospel. • We will not be held accountable for their response
but our diligence, courage and obedience to His command to obey all parts of the great commission.
• “Fear not for I am with you, but not dismayed for I am your God. I will help you. I will strengthen you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isa 41:10)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 26
THE GREAT COMMISSION
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18b-20
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 27
CHRISTIANS ARE JUST THE MESSENGERS
• What we speak is not our opinion, but simply what the Bible teaches.
•
• These warnings are not a matter of opinion, but are revealed by God in His Word
• If they are angry or resentful tell them to take the matter up with God.
• Let them know that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 28
WHAT IF THE BIBLE IS THE INSPIRED, AUTHORITATIVE, INFALLIBLE WORD
OF GOD?Ours is not to reason why,
ours is but to do or die.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 29
EXPECT REJECTION
• Most people will reject God’s judgment thinking they can somehow escape it.
Jesus said, “Enter into the narrow gate for wide is the gate that leads to destruction and many go into it. But narrow is the way that leads to life and few there be that find it. (Matt 5:13,14)

Luke 24:49 "And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Acts 10:38 "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him.

COMFORT IN OBEDIENCE
• If we do our duty to warn people of God’s judgment against sin; if we are willing to speak the truth in love and compassion… THEN
• We can know the fruit of the Holy Spirit
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 36

HOW TO BRING THE MESSAGE
• Do not speak condescendingly to people
• Do not to do it out of anger or a superiority complex.
• Present the message humbly, gently, graciously and soberly so that people know it is from God
• LOVE – LOVE – LOVE – LOVE - LOVE
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 38
DO NOT TAKE REJECTION PERSONALLY
• They are not rejecting us but God
• Let us not feel hurt or offended when people revile us
Jesus said, "The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me." (Luke 10:16)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 39
“…If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you;…” (John
15:20)
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 40
TRUE LOVE WARNS OF CONSEQUENCES
• To truly love people involves warning them of God’s true nature.
• God shows no partiality toward anyone. The soul that sins, it will die.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 41
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; [17] but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die." Genesis 2:16-17
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 42
THE INTOLERANCE OF JESUS• Jesus said, “He who believes in the Son has
everlasting life and will not come into judgment, but whoever is unbelieving is disobedient, refuses to trust in Christ as the substitutionary payment for the forgiveness of their sins, or who disregards God’s warnings is subject to the wrath of God and the Lord’s displeasure and indignation hangs over him forever. (John 3:36)
• Jesus said, “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish and be lost for eternity.”
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 43
•There would be no warning
•People would just continue doing whatever they are doing
•People would die.
WHAT IF HE DOES NOT DO HIS JOB?
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 44
WHAT WOULD YOU THINK OF A WATCHMAN WHO
DID NOT DO HIS JOB?
• What would we think of someone who allowed thousands of people to die without a
warning?
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 45
THE BIBLE PUTS RESPONSIBILITY WHERE
IT BELONGS• If the watchman
sounds the warning and is not heeded, then he is not responsible for defeat.
• If the watchman fails to sound the warning he will be accountable for defeat or death
All this seems quite fair and reasonable. It is just.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 46
TAG! YOU ARE THE WATCHMAN
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a
HOLY NATION, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
IF NOT ME WHO?! IF NOT NOW WHEN?!
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 47
IS THERE A NEED FOR A WATCHMAN TODAY?
• We live in a world and even in a nation where most people do not know the True God:
• It has been estimated that the Church reaches about 25% of the population.
• People look for life’s meaning in occult religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Yoga, witchcraft, Satan worship.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 48
THE STATE OF THE UNION
• America is rapidly approaching the state of affairs in which Israel found itself.
• An entire generation of people who know nothing of God.Judges 2:10 “And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.”
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 49
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 50
FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST ARE TO BRING THE WARNING -
MESSAGE
• If the Church does not proclaim it, no one else will. It is not the job of schools, government, "the media." All religions cannot be equally true. There is “absolute truth”
Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me.” John 14:6
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 51
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH – YOU?
• A survey was made and 90% of those surveyed said the purpose of the Church is to meet their spiritual needs. Only 10% said it is to win the lost to Christ.
• The purpose of the Church’s existence is to meet the spiritual needs of all mankind and they are only met through Jesus Christ.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 52
TO WHOM SHALL WE GO?
Wherever we are sent!
• Friends, enemies, neighbors,relatives
• Those we have a divine appointments with
• Cain asked God, "Am I my brother’s keeper?’ The answer is "Yes." We must take God’s Truth to a dying world!
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 53
WHAT IS THE MESSAGE?
• There is such a thing as sin. It will condemn you to hell.
• Judgement is coming. We don’t know when the Lord will return, but, He will.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 54
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 55
THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH•Most people don’t think sin is an important issue. Claim they have the right to live "any way they want." Everything is just a matter of opinion. Not so.
•The wages of sin is still death and it is still true we have all sinned and fallen far short of God’s expectations.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 56
IS THERE ANY HOPE?
Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sin and mine.1. It was done as an act of extreme love and compassion. It was voluntary.2. Also died for the sins of the entire world and He entrusted us with the task of spreading that message.3. We usually fail to share this message because we fear rejection, ridicule, or embarrassment. Deep down inside, we fear for ourselves, not the other fellow.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 57
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 58
SO WHAT CAN BE DONE?
• He calls upon you to surrender your life to His care and give yourself to His allegiance.
• In faith, one must acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior and surrender to Him through repentance and baptism. We must strive to grow more Christ like. BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 59
THEN WHAT? SIT AROUND DOING WHATEVER WE
WANT?
• God expects us to be a part of His Body, doing His work on earth.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 60
Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
GUESS WHATYOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 61
WHAT’S THE MESSAGE?
• The watchman’s message is not just, "Come to Church, we have a lot of nice people there." The Message is; "come to Jesus.
September 05 www.cryinginthewilderness.org 62
DO WE WARN THEM?• Our job is to speak God’s Truth to others
• Their response is not our problem.
• If we fail to confront them God will hold us accountable
