O God of love, compassion, and healing, look on us, people of many different faiths and traditions,

who gather today at this site, the scene of incredible violence and pain….

God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy,

we seek your light and guidance as we confront such terrible events.

Grant that those whose lives were spared may live so that the lives lost here

may not have been lost in vain. Comfort and console us, strengthen us in hope,

and give us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world

where true peace and love reign among nations and in the hearts of all.

AMEN

Upcoming Events

St. Joseph—Pray for Us

St. Joseph, is the splendor of Patriarchs, the patron of the church. A man of God, his heart is a lamp to

others; filled with light at the furnace of God Himself. While Moses led the

Israelites, Joseph led God Himself through the desert to the Land of

Promise, that is, to the hearts of His faithful ones! Invite him into the hard, rugged places and under his interces-

sory influence may the flowers of grace spring up, making barren lives

gracious and fragrant. That is why we call Saint Joseph Lumen Patriar-charum. "Light of Patriarchs!"

Reflections from St. Teresa of Calcutta

Courage: The partition in 1947 trig-

gered a huge influx of Hindu refugees from Bangladesh & Pakistan. The

need for land arose & Mother Teresa decided to travel to Delhi; she would approach the Central Government

officers for help. She met with gover-nors in person, explaining the need

she had observed and humbly made requests to the officials in New Delhi,

India’s capital. In one case she asked for land for

those afflicted with leprosy. Treated as outcasts, these people were

shunned despite the ability to treat many of them. She went seeking at least 5 acres, asked for 10 acres and the governor granted her 11 acres – “11” being an auspicious number for Hindus. She set up a hospital, phar-macy & dormitory offering these peo-ple a place to be nursed safely back

to health in recognition of their dignity as human beings.

On January 25th 1980, Mother Teresa was awarded India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna for her hu-manitarian work. The name of this

award translates as “Gem of Bharat”. [Bharat is the name India called itself long before formally obtaining inde-pendence from British colonial rule].

In her words: “Someone once told me that not even for a million dollars would the touch a leper. I responded: "Neither would I. If it were a case of money, I would

not even do it for two million. On the other hand, I do it gladly for love of

God."

I pay no attention to numbers; what matters is the people. I rely on one.

There is only one: Jesus.”

“God has created us so we do small things with great love. I believe in that

great love, that comes, or should come from our heart, should start at home: with my family, my neighbors

across the street, those right next door. And this love should then reach

everyone.”
