The Church Teaches... Bulletin Announcements

What is constant in the parables this weekend (Luke chapter 15: sheep, coin, son) is the progression leading us deeper into what Jesus reveals about God and what He expects from His disciples. What is revealed about the nature of

God is that God is always patiently “seeking of what is lost.”

This is a God who, by our judgment, seems ridiculous. Leaving 99 at risk while searching for one is, in human terms, silly. Tearing up the house and burning more oil than a coin is worth makes no sense, but that’s the point! Waiting, watching, and running outside with a ring and robe and then throwing an extravagant party for a kid who treated his dad as if he were dead makes us think that this dad has already spoiled this kid enough and ought to make him pay for his behavior. But then, that’s the God Jesus has come to reveal. Our God is the God of Joy who is actually crazy with love for us. If you’ve ever been crazy in love with someone, you know very well that you don’t act predictably and are likely to do some wild and wonderful things. Joy, in the end, is what these parables reveal about God, and Joy is what Jesus has come to bring and to proclaim.

Today we proclaim a Gospel of Joy because we believe in the God of mercy, renewing our faith through the Eucharist, making sure that we shall not stand outside when the party has already begun. We choose Joy. We choose Life. We choose Christ!

New Bible Study!

Our new season of Bible Study at Holy Cross is on: The Book of Revelation.

In Revelation, St. John offers an exhortation and admonition to Christians of the first century to stand firm in the faith and to avoid compromise with values contrary to the Gospel values. He encourages the faithful of every age, despite the threat of adversity and even martyrdom, to await patiently the fulfillment of God’s mighty promises.

Join us! No experience is necessary. Books are only $10 each and available for purchase now. We are meeting on Thursday nights at 7pm and/or Friday mornings at 10am.
