On behalf ofthe Massena Central School District Board of Education, I would like torecommend Mr. William Sommerfield as the Area 6 NYSSBA Director, effectiveupon the completion of Esther Asian’s term of service, the current Area 6 Director.The term of office for Mr. Sommerfield would be January 1, 2014— December 31,2016.
To that end, I would ask that Mr. Sommerfield’s letter of interest and resume(enclosed) be shared at your next Board of Education meeting and be considered forresolution to endorse him for this position.
Mr. Sommerfield has served our District and the interests of students for over twenty-five (25) years and has achieved the Mastery Level of School Boards voluntaryaccreditation. He has also served as a NYSSBA Ambassador and presented atNYSSBA conferences. His dedication and exemplary service to education among hispeers is unrivaled and stands as a testament to his enthusiasm and loyalty to faculty,staff; and students. I wholeheartedly endorse him for this opportunity and trust thatyou will give him your utmost consideration.

I am seeking to be elected by the NYSSBA Board of Directors to ff1 the unexpired term of the Area 6Director. Esther Arlan, the Area 6 Director, lost her local election in May and, according to ArticLe 8,may serve only through the current calendar year ending December 31, 2013. The person elected to fillthe unexpired term “shall also be deemed elected to the next succeeding fill term,” January 1, 2014 —
December31, 2016.
“Nominations or persons to be directors shall be in writing and endorsed by at least five (5) memberboards from the nomination area. Nominations are to be received in the Association Office by 5:00 p.m.on Friday, November 1, 2013.”
I would like the honor of serving as NYSSBA Area 6 Director. I have been a member of Massena CentralBoard of Education for 25 years, with two voluntary breaks in service. I have been active n NYSSBA,being an official spokesperson, “Ambassador,” presenter at an annual convention, and involved inEducation New York and other education advocate organizations. I am a widower, my teacher-librarianwife passed away in December 2011, and we did not have children. The attached resume is only a partiallist of my community involvement. My latest accomplishment in education was earning a Masters Degreein Education from SUNY Potsdam, at the age of 65 years, the fourth of my diplomas. I feel that I haveinvaluable and incomparable experience as a Board of Education member. I am highly dedicated, loyaland devoted to students and public education.
