Page 2 Parking Permits Sales Temporarily Suspended

As stated in the last Titan Voice, we have a limited number of parking spaces for students. We are now at 400 spaces spoken for and therefore we will not be approving any more passes for at least the rest of September. We know that not every student drives every day, so we will evaluate the lot and decide how many more spaces we can release.

Students who have turned in applications but did not get a permit had attendance issues or too many parking violations to authorize. However, we will consider them if they have perfect attendance and no violations between now and the time we decide we can sell more passes.

Students driving without a pass will face progressive discipline starting with a Saturday School and then moving into suspension.

SOPHOMORES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A PARKING PERMIT!

Interested in Learning More about High Tech Manufacturing?

PTI Engineered Plastics, a high tech manufacturing firm in Macomb Twp., is still accepting applications for the Fall 2016 session of its PTI Technical Academy. This FREE 9-week program is open to Macomb County students in grades 10-12 (ages 16-18). The academy runs on Saturday mornings from 8-11am, beginning October 8th, 2016 and concluding on December 10, 2016. PTI professionals will teach academy students about careers in manufacturing and plastic injection molding, part design, mold design, CAD, mold making, CNC programming, electrical discharge machining (EDM), mold maintenance and process engineering. Sophomore, Brett Ludwig, is a Design & Engineering student at Stevenson High School and is currently in the PTI academy and has gained so much knowledge by attending the 9-week program. This hands-on class is FREE to all students. The only requirement is that participants commit to attending each of the 9 sessions.

If you are a student who is interested in learning more about the exciting, high tech world of advanced manufacturing. You do not need to have any pre-requisite skills or CTE courses. It is our hope that this experience will motivate you to enroll in technical programs in subsequent school years and pursue one of the many in demand STEM careers available in advanced manufacturing in SE Michigan.More information, including a promotional video and instructions for enrolling, is available at www.academyatpti.com. I encourage interested students to apply online ASAP, as seats are limited.

Regards, Mr. Garcia

ABSENCES ADD UP TO FAILURE (As little as two absences a month)

From time to time, I will come across an article that I will share with you. Recently a counselor shared this article with me. It talks about how a study showed that even though 85% of parents know the impact of absenteeism on academic achievement, nearly 49% think it is o.k. to miss up to three days a month. “In reality, missing just two days of school per month makes children more likely to fall behind and less likely to graduate.” (Department of Education Article Link)

Attention: Students, Parents and Guardians of the Class of 2019

My name is Mr. Dave Kolbicz, and I am the Faculty Advisor to the Class of 2019. Here at Stevenson, we believe that a major key in student success both now and in the future is to have a well-rounded high school education. Not only does this come from putting focus and dedication into each course, but also from putting time into getting involved in some of the MANY extra-curricular activities that we sponsor here at SHS. In an effort to ensure that each and every one of you can receive reminders about school events (both extra-curricular and academic), an account at remind.com has been set up so that messages about all upcoming events affecting the members of the Class of 2019 can be directly to your cellular device. The instructions for signing up are located following this message. I encourage each and every one of you to register for this account to receive these reminders, and hope that each and every one of you works to find ways to get involved and find the best way for you to enjoy your time here at Stevenson High School. For any students that have questions or need my assistance in finding activities to get involved in, I can be found in room C-36. For any parent or guardian questions, I can be reached at either (586) 797-2036 or [email protected]. Enjoy the beginning of the school year!

Avoid Parking Violations and City Fines

Students must have a parking permit to park in the Stevenson Lot. Unauthorized vehicles will be stickered and repeat offenders will receive school consequences. Also, it is illegal for students to park in the City Center

Complex as well as the 41st District Court parking lot if you are not conducting business there. The police

department will enforce the city ordinance starting next week and it is a hefty fine.

Join Stevenson Titan Theatre Troupe

Attention anyone interesting in the Titan Theater Troupe: there will be an informational meeting in the auditorium on Tuesday, Sept. 20th right after school. Learn about the program and upcoming productions, meet current company members, and get a tour of our amazing space. No experience required!

Project Unify

Project UNIFY is a program sponsored by Special Olympics and a national program that advocates for people with intellectual disabilities through sports and educational settings. Stevenson High School applied and received a grant from the Department of Education for the fourth year in a row.

Project Unify has three components: Unified Sports, Youth Activation Committee and School Wide Awareness and Engagement.

This year Stevenson will have a Unified Downhill Skiing and Unified Volleyball teams. We are extremely excited to be participating in these sports.

“The Youth Activation Committee is youth empowering other youth to encourage the next generation to be inclusive of people with and without intellectual disabilities and not exclusive.“ —Danielle Liebl, Special Olympics Athlete and National Youth Activation Committee member. The Youth Activation Committee will be meeting during lunches to collaborate together on activities and to just hang out together.

Finally, Stevenson High School will be working hard to support the “Spread the Word to End the Word” national campaign as part of our School Wide Awareness and Engagement. This campaign nationwide happened during the month of March.

Volunteers needed for club/team news reporting

We have had a couple of games already in different sports. We are looking for a team/club parent to report the news from different games. All you have to do is put together a paragraph that highlights the game/team/event and send it to [email protected].
