GOLD

In my last report on July 14th I was looking for gold to hold above the 1165 level and commence a fresh rally to a new high by early September. It subsequently found support at 1157 by the end of July from where it has rallied 8.5% to reach 1255 by September 1st , a little short of the all time high of 1265 struck in June. This is all marked up on the daily chart below and there is also a reprint of what I wrote in July. The second chart, the weekly chart (over page) , was created in July and has on it my earlier forecasts for gold.

Where to from here. In the July report I also wrote that after September I expect it higher again by late November. I remain with that view however if it does stumble badly from here then late November is where a falling price would quickly run to before finding initial support.

JULY 14TH: I was very cautious on Gold after its rally into May which I correctly forecas t back in December 09. This is all marked up on the weekly chart below and extracts from earlier reports are also reproduced below. Therefore I have been standing aside from it since my last report on it in May and in the meantime I h ave completed fresh calculations for it and now have ea rly September around the 8th and late November.

I am uncomfortable applying it to the downside as t he uptrend is still in tact which would see it on n ew high by early September and higher again by late November. So a continuation of the rally is my preferred view and in that regard nearby support at 1165 should hold.

If I am wrong on the direction and it starts to fal l away then it is heading for a new yearly low bene ath the February low of 1043 by early September and lower a gain by late November.

Those calculations and comments apply equally to si lver.

Technical Indicator of the Month - Jason Achjian

Majority Rule

WhatThis indicator calculates the percentage of the most recent specified periods in which a security had rising values. It may be used either as a trend-following device or as an overbought/oversold indicator.

How # of Up Days (during n)Majority Rule = ________________________ x 100 n

Where ‘n’ = number of periods

WhenWhen the indicator is at a relatively high level (generally greater than 75%) the ‘Majority Rule’ states that statistically, a reversal is likely. When a high reading is recorded the quantity of up days that have occurred over the nominated period is not usual in the context of the market movement being reviewed and the probability of a down day is more likely.When the Majority Rule indicator is low (generally less than 25%) this could be seen as an oversold market and taken as a buy signal.
