Chairman’s MessageMichael Waldrop, 2011 Chamber ChairmanBlue Cord Design and Construction, LLC
The West Orange Chamber of Commerce exists to serve by “FACILITATING OPPORTUNITY.”
September 2011
Strategic Planning – what does it mean? Why should the Chamber or any business enter into the process of strategic planning? The answer is simple; if you don’t know where you want to go, then how will you know how to get there.? That is why the Chamber continues to strategically plan. We began the journey back in October of 2010 when “Facilitating Opportunity” was born. Our simple, yet powerful purpose statement is leading us on a journey fraught with challenges and opportunities. Most of the challenge is getting the entire organization going in the same direction and operating under the same purpose.
Ask the chairmen and members of all the committees. They have been working through, learning and more importantly understanding the difference between a vision, mission, strategies, goals, objectives, benchmarks, metrics, tactics, action plans, dissemination and implementation plans. Facilitating this process has been Mary Tomlinson of On Purpose Partners. Mary has utilized her skills to guide us in the right direction. We commend the efforts of all of our chairmen and members of these committees for their diligence and hard work in this area. The entire organization is getting to be more “on-purpose” now.
Mary’s talents will be available for all of you to experience first-hand. Mary is one of the presenters at this month’s “Navigate Your Way To Success” seminar on Wednesday, September 28th. This morning long seminar will focus on Generational Marketing, Negotiating with Confidence, Social Media and Your Message and Effective Networking Strategies. This seminar is designed to cover the most up to date information needed to assist your business with the right tools for the 21st Century. In addition to On Purpose Partners attendees will hear from A. J. & Kiki Grossman~ Grossman & Grossman, P.A., Robert Fleming & Jason Johnson ~ Marlin Consulting Solutions and Saralyn Collins ~ The Training Bridge.
Another opportunity I hope you will consider is advertising in Discover 2012. This annual publication is more valuable than local phone books. I can say this because it contains the business directory of our membership; my first and only resource for my business referrals. Make sure you use your login information and update your listing today so that the hard copy directory is the most current information for your business. The Chamber team is in the process of updating all the editorial content for the entire book.
A most recent update to the book is the addition of our newest Trustees. Congratulations to R.C. Stevens Construction for taking the opportunity to move up to a seldom open slot in the Community Trustee program. That movement allowed for the addition of Scott Boyd Development as our newest Supporting Trustee. Both companies join a wonderful group of businesses.
I applaud their commitment to the Chamber and community and for each of you for your stake in the Chamber and community as well.

Keeping An Eye on the IssuesThe Chamber Team is keeping an eye out on local issues so that we may keep you informed on issues of local and regional importance. Here is what we kept an eye on in August and early September.
The Pine Hills Business Redevelopment Task Force - The group met on Monday, August 15th and learned that they received a $100.000 grant. The next meeting will be on Monday, 9/19 at 11:00 am to 1:00pm at the Orange County Library ~ Hiawassee Branch, 7391 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32818 (Hiawassee & West Colonial/Hwy 50).
West Orange/South Lake Transportation & Economic Task Force – Stina D’Uva attended this meeting on Wednesday, August 17th at 7:30am in Winter Garden City Hall. They discussed the upcoming community charette to be held
in October and a planning session for it to be held at the September 14th meeting. The meeting will also include a presentation by Orange County on industry clusters along the 429. The next meeting will be on September 14th at 2:00pm at the commission chambers of the city of Winter Garden. West Orange Aviation Authority (WOAA) Monthly Board Meeting - Stina D’Uva attended the meeting at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 24th at Winter Garden’s city hall. Chairman Guy Haggard reported that he expected approval of the Feasibility Study in September. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 28th at 10:00am at city of Apopka City Hall.
What’s New! What’s Coming!
Bill Donegan, Orange County Property Appraiser, speaks to WOCC members at a recent Hot Topics session about what’s new at his office and on his web site! Check it out:
• Quick Search Toolbar This feature provides a quick and easy way to search properties from the convenience of the
property records page with minimal information. You can search by parcel id, address, owner name or subdivision.
• Tangible Personal Property Tax Return Online Taxpayers can now file their Tangible Personal Property Tax Returns online. Taxpayers who have
a valid Tangible Personal Property account with our office are mailed a username and password to file their tax returns online. The rental return is for taxpayers who need to file a tax return on assets they own in a rental property. For assets held or used by a regular business, the taxpayer should file a regular return.
• Homestead Exemption Online Taxpayers can now file for their homestead exemption online. New homeowners are mailed a
login id and password to access the secured exemption application form. Otherwise, eligible homeowners may contact our office to receive a letter with their login information.
• Sales (Analysis) Report The sales report permits searching of recent sales by school district, area or radius. Once a search
has been performed, the sales are displayed on a map within the application along with a listing of the sales. The user can select more details of a particular sale by clicking on its parcel number. Sales analysis charts are also displayed as part of the report.
