Celebrated

72 Years

On April 9

Tonia, 24, says, “Thank you for everything you

are doing to keep the Mission up and running!”

What was your family like? I grew up with both of my parents in their addiction. I have 8 siblings. I was a straight “A” student. I used to be involved in every school activity there was, and was even in several parades here in

Stockton. When I was 8 years old, my father went to prison for 9 years. I began running away from home at the age of 14.

Who introduced you to drugs and what happened after you began using? When I was 15 years old, my friend introduced me to weed and metham-phetamine. After I began using drugs, I dropped out of school and met this lady who was a prostitute and I started to do that for 8 1/2 years. I have had 3 children in between doing that. I was in and out of jail. I was in a very abusive relationship and was never around my family or my children. I was also raped 3 times.

Where were you staying before you came to the Mission? I was at the Haven of Peace and then at my parents’ home for 2 weeks before coming to the Mission. I felt like I had no reason for living. I also felt like I was getting nowhere in life. Then my friends told me about the Mission.

What are you thankful for at the Mission? I am thankful for: a safe place to live, the Mission helping me to get my children back, and the services they provide for me here.

What are you learning while at the Mission? I am learning how to be successful in looking for a job, how to deal with my feelings (good or bad), how to set healthy boundaries with others and my children, and how to be a better mother to my children.

Thank you for giving to help mothers like Tonia!

REPRESENTATIVES!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your gifts thus far which have

helped us during our “Summer Slump” months.

As you can see from the chart above, our

income from January through August totaled

$698,794 while our expenses during the same

period totaled $784,058. This leaves us with

an accumulating debt of $85,264.

This is the last month that we will be asking you

to “add $10 or more” to your normal gifts to

help us through these tough times.

We also ask that you consider donating your

“Year-End” tax-deductible gifts to the Mission so that we can finish the year well and not have

to cut programs or staff due to lack of funding.

We thank you in advance for your increased gifts

and year-end donations that will continue to bless

the lives of homeless men, women and children.
