SEPTEMBER 1ST PRESENTER

Kelby Love

Kelby never doubted the focus of his life, from childhood,

his interest in nature, particularly fish, was enthusiastic and

comprehensive, due to the many trips to the river with his

father. Kelby has observed, sketched and painted animals

since he can remember, and it has translated into firsthand

knowledge of his subjects, which he transforms into

exacting detail for his clients, Field & Stream, Outdoor Life

and National Geographic.

Kelby has taken the next step and created a full line

of wildlife art. With the same exacting detail, the artwork

conveys a sense of inner vitality that makes them more the

mere paintings; they place the viewer into a particular living

moment. fOR

DEADLINE for OCT issue is no later than 5 PM ~ Friday-Sept 5th Email to: [email protected]

Dear SAL members, Guests and Art Lovers,

Our initial membership drive has concluded, with

very good results including 14 new members.

I’m looking forward to receiving my engraved

permanent nametag. With so many members

away at this time of year, it’s very hard to collect

dues from everyone.

For that reason, the Board is working to push

back the membership date to October 1st. That

means everyone who joins or renews now will

get 3 extra months. Thanks to the hard work of

our Membership Chairman, David Amsellem,

and assistant, Isabel Huin, the coming weeks will

bring in many more renewals. Thank you also to

Pamela Shearer for researching and arranging

for our nametags.

At the August 4th General Meeting, we were

treated to a wonderful and informative

presentation about the brand new Museum of the

West, located in the Scottsdale Arts District.

Guide, Allen Fossenkemper, a walking

encyclopedia of western art and history, took us

on a slide tour with amazing explanations that

left me very anxious to take the real tour. Thank

you to Pat Serie, our Programs VP, for bringing

him to us.

With the oppressive heat we’ve been

experiencing here in the Valley of the Sun, it’s a

great time to stay inside and paint, sculpt, work

on photos or whatever creative pursuits you

enjoy. It’s also a great time to try something new

that you’ve been itching to do. Don’t be afraid---

”Just do it!” It may come out wonderful.

Creatively yours,~ Freddie Lieberman

Allen Fossenkemper, Museum Tour Guide, spoke about the Museum of the West,

Arizona’s newest public attraction located in historic downtown Scottsdale, 3830 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.

The city of Scottsdale has long been recognized as a center for art, civic heritage, community celebrations, and a focal point for cultural tourism in Arizona. In keeping with this tradition, the museum serves as the western anchor to the arts and cultural district, linking several vibrant residential, commercial and entertainment neighborhoods, while enhancing pedestrian’s enjoyment of the respected gallery community on nearby Main Street.

We are looking forward to the many ways Scottsdale Artists League and the Museum of the West will work together to benefit

both non-profit organizations. http://scottsdalemuseumwest.org/ Thank you, Allen.

Artist of the Month winners were announced. The committee was not present so ribbons will be presented next month. Thank

you to Linda Wickstrom and Donna Lewis who stepped up to count votes for us.

Aki from Gravity Elements Art Gallery in the Airpark is promoting and featuring artists. Please check out the web site and

come see them. 25% commission on sales. Heather Kirk, Leslie Austin and Ericka Cerro Wood are showing there in

October. Their shop does framing and his wife, Guzal, was the framer for the Whitehouse so comes highly recommended.

Ericka Cerro Wood spoke about eblasts containing the newsletter. If you are not receiving the newsletter Art Beat and

would like to, go to the website and reregister. The new membership will not automatically rejoin you if you have

unsubscribed in the past.

George Moreno, a Sedona artist spoke about the 100 year George Pippen Gallery.
