SEPTEMBER PANTRY NOTES

September and October are apple and pumpkin time and we are also still enjoying our local garden produce. Again, I'd like to thank our members for all their generous donations that keep our pantry well stocked.

So what's needed? Baking supplies and baking spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, basil, dill, garlic powder and thyme. Our patrons also use Spanish, Asian, and Italian flavors and we can always use donations of tuna, canned fruit and cold beverages. . Thank you for supporting the Food Pantry!

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES & RESOURCES

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP The Longmeadow Adult Center has partnered with the East Longmeadow Senior Center to offer a Caregiver Support Group for those who are caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or other related dementias. This group is an outreach both to caregivers and those living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

For the month of September the group will be on break. However the East Longmeadow Public Library will be hosting the first of a series of memory cafés. Memory Cafés are an excellent opportunity for you to spend some time with your loved one engaging in activities and interactions with other caregiver/loved ones. This first Memory Café will be held on September 5th, for more details please contact the East Longmeadow Public Library at 413-525-5432.

DO NOT IGNORE YOUR MEDICARE MAIL!

It’s that time of year! If you have a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will receive information from your plan by the end of September. Please understand and save this information regarding changes in your plan for 2018.

During Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15 - December 7), you may change your insurance plan for next year. SHINE counselors can help you understand your plan changes, as well as other options you may have.

Trained SHINE counselors offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related health insurance programs. To schedule a SHINE appointment, call 413-565-4150 to reach the Longmeadow Adult Center, or state SHINE at 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636), then press or say 3. If you get the SHINE answering machine, leave your name and number. A counselor will call you back, as soon as possible. Call early to receive a pre-enrollment form and make an appointment. Remember to bring your Medicare and insurance cards and a complete list of your medications.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 12:30

can improve your sleep. Share what helps you, or what your struggles are and receive some insight from your peers.

SUPPORT GROUPS

HOME ENERGY AUDITS Longmeadow was chosen to participate in an energy efficiency project funded by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation Energy LLC, with no cost to the Town or homeowners. After Labor Day, images will be sent to 2,015 homeowners in our town, showing where homes are leaking, wasting money and energy. The project, called ener-G-save, is working together with Co-op Power to make the process of getting an energy assessment done on your home, getting help figuring out financing grants and loans, and connecting with contractors who can best do the work to make your home more comfortable while improving energy

efficiency for Longmeadow - and they'll make it easy!
