PHFhassixprioritiesforitsworkintheUK:

Weinvestinthepotentialofpeopleandorganisations,valuingtheircapacitytoseetheworlddifferentlyandmakechangehappen.ThroughtheIdeasandPioneersFund(seepage4)wesupportthedevelopmentofideasthatareuntestedandcanbeunusual.Wearecomfortablewithadegreeofrisk,recognisingthatinvestmentinanideaearlycanbringunexpectedandexcitingoutcomes.

Webelieveintheenduringpoweroftheartsasaforceforchange,enrichingpeople'slivesandcommunities.ThroughtheAccessandParticipationFund,wesupportorganisationsthathaveambitiousplanstowidenaccesstoanddeepenparticipationinthearts.Ouremphasisisonaddressinginequalitiesofopportunityandcreatingspacetostepbackandlookatthesystemicproblemspreventingparticipation(seepage6).

Formanyyoungpeopletheonlyopportunitytogainaccesstoartseducationisatschool.ThroughtheArts-basedLearningFundwesupporttheartsandculturalsectortoworkeffectivelywithschools,whileourTeacherDevelopmentFundfocusesonhelpingteacherstodeveloptheirownskillstodeliverartandembedlearningthroughartsintheprimarycurriculum(seepage8).

Theevidencebaseforthevalueandimpactoftheartsinpeople'slivesisweak.ThroughtheArtsEvidenceDevelopmentFund*wearecontributingtobetterevidence,workingwithotherstocollectandshareevidencethathelpstoexplainthedifferencetheartscanmaketopeople'slivesandcommunities(seepage11).

Wesupportorganisationsatdifferentstagesofdevelopmenttoimprove,consolidateandspreadpracticethatensuresyoungpeopleachievetheirfullpotential.OurYouthFundhelpsorganisationsbecomebetterpreparedbyprovidingcorefundingsupport,whileourGrowthFundprovideslonger-termfundingtosupportorganisationstoidentifyandimplementpracticalstepstogrowth(seepage12).

Wecelebratetheopportunitiesforsocial,economicandculturalenrichmentgeneratedthroughmigration.TheSharedGroundFundisdesignedtorealisetheseopportunitiesandsupportamoresociallyequalsociety.Ourworkinthisareaismostconcernedwithensuringthatyoungpeoplewhohavemigratedcanaddressthesignificantbarriersthataffecttheirabilitytothrive(seepage14).
