Vol. 4, No. 156 Wednesday, September 23, 2015

It takes a lot of volunteer help to put on the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competion for boys and girls ages 6-15, and GHS students Khloe Krumwiede, Kiauna Barstad and Teagan Fossum were eager to pitch in for measuring duties and chase the footballs down (and all being

Scotty softball players, they can pass the pigskin with pinpoint accuracy!). Glasgow Health Enhancement Teacher Linday Hudyma and GHS Athletic Director Brenner Flaten would like to say a big "thank you" to all the volunteers who helped out Monday night.

On Saturday, September 26th, the Eastern Montana Stand Down will be held at the Richland County Event Center located at 2118 W Holly Street in Sidney and all veterans and

their families are invited to attend. Local service providers including representatives from Fort Peck Warrior Center, Montana Legal Services, VA’s Mobile Vet Center,

BUZZIFIEDS

"Scott Walker, the presidential candidate who is famous for riding a Harley, dropped out of the race. Walker made the decision when he realized that all of his supporters could fit on his Harley." ~ Conan O'Brien

"Political experts say it is increasingly likely that the federal government will be forced to shut down on October 1st due to the dispute over Planned Parenthood funding. That’s right — ironically if lawmakers don’t fund Planned Parenthood, there is no Plan B." ~ Seth Myers

"Researchers in Japan have found that several species of ape can remember and recall plot details from movies. Then there are the less advanced species of ape who whisper to you, “Who’s that guy?” ~ Seth Myers

"Republican candidate Jeb Bush is struggling to get traction against Donald Trump. Trump is even dominating in Jeb's home state of Florida, where the former governor is behind by 15 points. That makes sense that Florida likes Trump — they're used to life-size cartoon characters with giant heads." ~ Stephen Colbert

–assisting homeless Veterans, Red Cross, Richland County Health Department, River Program, Lions Club – vision assessment, Shepherd of the Valley Church sponsoring Bible Sticks, Sunrise Women’s Clinic, VFW, and Dawson Community College will be there offering information and services. Stand Downs are held all over the country, beginning in the mid 1980s when two Vietnam Vets working in Social Services, San Diego, CA decided to take action and help the homeless veteran population. Though eastern Montana doesn’t have an overwhelming population of homeless vets, the Stand Down is important none-the-less. The first Eastern Montana Stand Down was held in 2010 and has taken place every year since, rotating between Glendive, Sidney, Miles City, and Poplar. The Opening Ceremony will be from 8:30 - 9:00 and is open to the public, a wonderful way to show support and recognition for area veterans. The Stand Down will be held from 9 am - 3 pm and veterans are encouraged to bring an official military ID to expedite the process, however no one will be turned away. Any monetary donations can be made payable to Eastern Montana Veteran’s Stand Down and dropped off or mailed to the Sidney Job Service, 211 N Central Ave., Sidney, MT, 59270.

Fall has officially kicked in and the trees are definitely showing it: simply a beautiful time of year before the winds strip them bare in the days ahead. But it's looking like we've got some sunshine and summerlike days in front of us. Check out Friday's high.

THURSDAY Great follow throughGlasgow's Rance Rhoads took the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition this past Monday evening on Scotty Field. Competing in the 10-11-year-old class his combined distance was a whopping 228 feet, 3 inches, earning him the trip to Miles City on October 4th. Rance made it all the way to Denver in December 2013 in the 8-9-year-old division to perform in the Mile High Stadium where the Broncos played Tennessee. An outstanding young athlete, Rance will no doubt be suiting up for the Scotties in his years ahead.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher whose hand wascaught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up aconversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obamaand his role as our president. The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obamais a 'Post Turtle''.*

*Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'postturtle' was.*

*The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and youcome across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'postturtle'. The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so hecontinued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself; hedoesn't belong up there; he doesn't know what to do while he's up there;he's elevated beyond his ability to function; and you just wonder what kindof dumb ass put him up there to begin with.
