Before the commencementof the events, Dean StudentsWelfare, Prof. Satnam Kourinformed about the demise ofProf Dhian Singh Bhau whohad a prolific career atUniversity of Jammu undervarious capacities andpresently he was Director,Directorate of DistanceEducation.
Two minutes' silence wasobserved for the peace to thedeparted soul.
In essay writing competi-tion, around 60 students fromdifferent colleges, institutesand departments of the
University of Jammu partici-pated. Dr Padam Dev Singhwas the Teacher Incharge ofthe event. The topics given tothe students for essay writingwere 'How can India becomesa Global Superpower' and'Rivers are the Lifeline ofIndia'.
In short story writing, 40students participated. Dr.Sandeep Arya was theTeacher Incharge of the event.The participants were sup-posed to write a story on the
topics including changingmeaning of friendship,respect for elders and child-hood memories. The results ofboth the literary events wouldbe declared at the valedictoryfunction.
In sketching, Ranju Kumarifrom Institute of Music andFine Arts (IMFA) wasdeclared first, Pallavi Gujralfrom Department of Zoologyand Durga Shivam Sandhyafrom The Law School, JUstood second and third respec-
tively.Certificates of Merit were

He was speaking afterhanding over modifiedScooties to two specially abledpersons. The tri-wheel bikeswere provided by the Speakerto the beneficiaries out of hisConstituency DevelopmentFund (CDF).
Further emphasising onpublic contribution, Speakersaid that every individualmust volunteer himself in thenoble service. He said properguidance, encouragement andbetter opportunities will helpthem to become self-depend-ent. "To develop a sense ofsecurity among them, thesociety should assist their spe-cial needs", the Speakerasserted.
Kavinder assured that everypossible measure will be takenfor immediate redress of thegrievances of special persons.The Speaker called upon the
