This seminar will be available to all couples who are planning an upcoming wedding. The course will be led by Nathan Blake. Nathan, a licensed counselor in private practice, facilitated HBBC’s first Premarital Counseling Seminar earlier this year. All who participated agreed that “Marriage Bootcamp,” as they playfully called it, was a valuable experience and well worth the while. The conference will include two meals and all program materials. If you are interested in registering, please contact David Hailey at [email protected] or sign-up online by October 10 at www.hbbc.org/marriage. Space is limited. WOMEN'S MORNING PRAYER and SERVICE We hope that you will join us Wednesday, October 10, at 9:30 AM for our first Morning Prayer and Service this fall. They sound biblical, and in some respects, they capture an element of truth. But they also miss the point in important ways. VOLUNTEER We need many volunteers and have a wide range of opportunities. CBF “Mission Bite”Fighting Predatory LendingPredatory payday lending is one of the greatest injustices the financially desperate face in America. Payday loans promise a rapid economic solution while creating drowning debt.

Fortunately, individuals like Scarlette Jasper, a CBF field personnel, are working to put an end to this abuse. Scarlette has served for many years in various parts of Kentucky as an advocate for her struggling neighbors. She puts her faith into action by facilitating group workshops, offering individualized financial training to help with budgeting and other financial management skills, and partnering with Together for Hope to warn of the entrapment of payday loans. If that were not enough, she is also engineering a micro-loan program to provide a financial alternative for families.

Scarlette is an example of what it is to walk with Christ and others. Her work not only helps those economically disadvantaged, but it professes the love of Jesus in tangible ways.

URBAN MINISTRIESAt Urban Ministries, volunteers make our programs run. They make sure hungry families are fed, homeless women are sheltered, and sick adults are healed. Can you help? We need Front Desk Greeters, Food Pantry Volunteers, and Access to Care Interviewers. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially needed. A Class to Consider: Noah’s Ark ClassNoah’s Ark is a friendly, welcoming Sunday School class serving couples and singles in their 40s-50s. When you look around the room, you will see church members who are very active in church and community life. We like to roll up our sleeves and get INVOLVED in church with outreach, missions, children’s ministry, the diaconate, stewardship programs, Christian education, and many other areas. And, you will find the Noah’s Ark classmates throughout the community--leading, volunteering, and serving. Class discussions are lively and based on a quest to understand the teachings of Jesus and the Bible and how that fits into our daily lives. We meet upstairs above the Chapel in C-206 at 9:45 for coffee and conversation. Discussion begins at 10:00. Our teachers, Chris Jones, Chris Moore and Rob Singleton, always provide an interesting angle for you to consider. Start the week off positively in your faith journey. Join us!
