EPHPHATHA! EPHPHATHA! EPHPHATHA! EPHPHATHA! –––– THAT IS, “Be opened!” (Mark THAT IS, “Be opened!” (Mark THAT IS, “Be opened!” (Mark THAT IS, “Be opened!” (Mark 7:317:317:317:31----37). 37). 37). 37). The Gospel of Mark was written around AD70, and by this time the Church has been preaching the Gospel among Gentiles and Jews alike for more than 30 years. Mark recorded Jesus’ account as he moved to the Gentile ten cities (Decapolis) in Gentile lands. Apparently there is already some level of faith in the people there. The story of the healing of the deaf man reveals God at work in and through His Son, Jesus. Jesus’ demonstrates the truth that God, His Father, fulfills the final rule over all the forces of evil has begun in His person. The healing account reveals the divine plan that in and through Jesus’, the wholeness of humanity is both extends to not only Jews (Christians) but to the Gentiles (all of creation) as well. In addition this particular healing made known that Jesus’ fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah: through Jesus the Messiah, the deaf hear the message of the Kingdom of God, and the mute can proclaim it. Are you opened to proclaim the goodness of the Lord? Do you share the Gospel readings of the day with your children at home? Are you setting a good example of faith in your family? Our obligation to attend Mass on Sunday; are you setting a good example of bringing your children to Mass? Ephphatha! Let us open up our hearts to the Lord, and let Him heal our sinfulness and weaknesses. Let us pray that He will give us the courage and faith to fight the good fight for Him in the world. We can all make a difference of filling our churches by making the bold move of going often to Mass, bringing our children to know Jesus all Sundays! What’s your excuse? Amen.
WELCOME!WELCOME!WELCOME!WELCOME! We welcome our new DRE/Youth and Young Adult to St. Mary Mystical Rose, Theresa Sakawa! We welcome our new Music Director, Irek Bak, to our Parish as well! Welcome Theresa and Irek!

Evangelization The Archdiocese of Detroit is partnering with ChristLife for next Saturday’s “Following Christ and Sharing Christ” training conference, which will provide disciple-ship and evangelization tools to those engaged in adult faith formation and evangelization in our parishes. Attendees will learn to more fully embrace the Church’s universal call to holiness and evangelization; help others establish the spiritual disciplines of a Catholic disciple; learn how to lead the Holy Spirit, forgiveness, and renun-ciation prayer sessions presented in Following Christ; and discover how to follow and share Jesus Christ in their ordinary daily lives and become more fully a parish of missionary disciples. Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal help fund “Following Christ and Sharing Christ,” to be led by ChristLife founder and director Dave Nodar at Sacred Heart Major Seminary on September 12, so those minis-tering in the Archdiocese can attend for only $20, includ-ing training materials and meals. For more information about CSA-funded programs, min-istries, and services, please go to www.AOD.org.

Couple Prayer – Six Week Series In today’s fast paced world, it often seems couples can barely find the time to get through all the tasks and demands of any given day. Many times at the end of the day, we discover one thing we have not found time for is prayer. This series will help couples make space for conversation with God. Second Timothy reminds us to fan into flame the gift of God that is in you. Prayer is the ‘fan’ and the fruits of this ‘flame’ can and will surprise you! Join us for this series and discover all that God desires for your marriage. Wednesday Evenings from 7:00pm – 9:00pm beginning on Octo-ber 8 and ending on November 12. Facilitators: Ken & Signe Castel; Host Couple: Steve & Faith Offman Early registration fee by September 17th of $50.00 per couple for the entire series!
Grieving with Great Hope – Five Week Series Following the loss of a loved one, we enter into the valley of grief. It can be a painful and lonely journey which at times seems to have no end. This series offers support and tools to equip par-ticipants through prayer, ritual and presence to begin to build their bridge beyond the pain and navigate their journey through grief. Monday Mornings from 9:30am – 11:30am beginning on October 26 and ending November 23. Facilitators: John & Sandy O’Shaughnessy Early registration fee by October 5th of $25.00 per person for the entire series – materials included!
