SPIRIT SUNDAY
September 6, 2015 10:30 - 11:45 AM
Call to Worship Psalm 96 Amanda Padovano
Welcome Rev. Frank Bernat, Rev. Matt Parker
Responsive Reading Rev. Bernat, Rev. Parker
“I Am My Church”
I am my church
My church is composed of people like me. We make it what it is.
It will be warm and friendly
If I am warm and friendly.
Its pews will be filled.
If I help to fill them.
It will do great works of service and outreach.
If I will work to serve others and reach out to the community and world around me.
It will make generous gifts to many causes that build the kingdom of God.
If I am a generous giver and give graciously from the resources God has given me.
It will invite other people into its worship and fellowship.
If I will invite them and welcome them.
It will be a church of loyalty and love, of friendship and faith, and a church with a noble spirit.
If I, who makes it what it is, am filled with these traits.
Therefore, with the help of God,
I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my church to be.

“THREE SIMPLE RULES” │ New Message Series Beginning September 13 (8:30, 9:30, 11contemporary)
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ? How can we grow in our discipleship? It often feels the
answer to these questions can seem pretty complicated. What if there were a more simple understanding of
how we grow in our discipleship? In this series, we will explore the three simple rules – do no harm, do good,
and stay in love with God – that were first shared as John Wesley’s General Rules. The way of disciples is not
simple, however with these three simple rules we can discover an easier way for holy living.
INTERESTED IN HELPING WITH THE 2016 GLOBAL IMPACT CELEBRATION?
The 2016 Global Impact Celebration (GIC) will be March 4-6, 2016. Our SERVE team is already working to
provide a wonderful and spiritually enriching weekend as we celebrate all God is doing through Bethlehem
First United Methodist Church. If you would like to be a part of our GIC Leadership Team, we invite you to
join us for lunch following the 11:00 worship services on Sunday, September 13. It takes many hands and
feet to coordinate this event, and we hope you will consider serving in this role.

our church and to invite children and their families to be a part of our congregation. There are several ways
that you can help:
Provide bake goods that will be sold at the booth
Set up on Friday night (September 18th), setting up our tent and tables.
Set up or take down the day of the Festival
Serve at the booth for a 3 hour time slot (we will be offering Sno-Cones, having a craft for the children,
and handing out balloons with church information tied to them)
Please contact Ben Wilcox ([email protected]) if you would like to help in some way.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ADULT CLASSES - Begins September 9, 2015
6:30 ~ 8:00 PM | Change the World, Room 123
Linking Bible study to global mission and local service projects, this small group video-based
resource will enable participants to discuss and act on the imperatives of scripture. Each week,
participants will read and discuss a gospel story, watch a video profiling an inspiring, world-changing
mission effort, and envision together how they can change the world locally and globally.
Participants won’t just read about Jesus feeding the 5000 or healing the lepers, but will be inspired
by contemporary ministries feeding the poor and preventing malaria. Participants will be challenged
to take a leading role in the congregation’s missional efforts as they also plan and participate in
service/mission projects.
6:30 ~ 8:00 PM (5-week class) | How To Raise A Modern-Day Knight, Room 124
Attention Fathers of Boys! We live in a culture where masculinity is treated like an unfortunate fact of
life. The world’s culture provides virtually no positive male examples to our boys. It is up to us to
teach them how to become kind, loving, God-fearing and productive men. When does a boy become
a man? Is it when he graduates from High School or college? When he turns 18 or 21? Cost: $14 for
textbook Raising a Modern-Day Knight by Robert Lewis.
7:00 ~ 8:00 PM | Women’s Bible Study (GRITS), Room 101
Gals Rejoicing In The Savior (G.R.I.T.S.) will study the book Spiritual Gifts by David Francis. Many of us
have gone through programs that help us recognize our spiritual gifts, but this study goes beyond
identification into lively discussions of how God works through us if we will use these gifts. We will
also be talking about tough stuff like: What do we do if we do not like “God’s gift?” Even more
pertinent, what do we do if we have accepted the gift but we are tired of it? We will experience Jesus
in a fresh way through a look at all of the spiritual gifts and learn to appreciate our own gifts as well as
to affirm the gifts of others. Come join the fun as we “exchange gifts” and worship God by learning
and laughing!
7:00 ~ 8:00 PM | Major United Methodist Beliefs, Room 128
How do we describe United Methodist? Where do we come from? What do we believe? How do
United Methodist act? What are our distinctive characteristics? How do we grow as Disciples of Jesus
Christ? United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. What do these beliefs really
mean and how can we live them out daily? Whether you are a lifelong United Methodist or a new
comer to our denomination, this study will deepen your understanding of what United Methodist
believe and inspire you to live your faith boldly.

third less time. Over the course of 24 weeks, Disciple covers the entire Bible following the Biblical
