PHASE I ENVELOPES There has been a concern expressed that there are green and yellow envelopes for Phase I Capital Campaign. Either one is acceptable, and you will be credited for your pledge. Thank you for your generosity, and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family.
DONATIONS VIA BILL PAY Using the bill pay feature from your local bank to send in your weekly tithing is a great way to set aside the first fruits for your Parish. You won’t have to worry about remembering to bring your donation envelopes, and your generous support will be received in a timely and predictable manner, which will help the Parish in its day-to-day operations.
COLLECTIONS If you are donating to multiple collections, PLEASE make a separate check for St. Vincent De Paul. St. Vincent has its own checking account, and placing all collections in one check makes it more difficult to separate. The rest of the collections can be done with one check, for example Sunday’s and the Capital Campaign. Thank you for your generosity, and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family. **REMINDER: all checks must be written in either black or blue ink.**
Donations NEW ALTAR The restoration of the “Stillman” altar is well underway. We are looking forward to the installation of the altar in August and its dedication by Bishop Flores on September 18. This historic altar was given by the Stillman family of Brownsville to Mercy Hospital in 1923. When the hospital closed, Fr. Norbert Deddens acquired it and moved it here in the 1970’s. Unfortunately, it was removed and the current movable wooden altar was put in. The mensa (table top) of the altar was found a few years ago, and we began the process of looking into having it restored. Impetus was given for this project when Bishop Flores, as per canon law, encouraged all churches to have fixed altars. Its restoration is a significant event for the history of our Diocese. The cost of this renovation will be approximately $34,000. We have already received some substantial donations toward this project.

Intentions for 2018 are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis (2-4 arrangements can be purchased per weekend). Pastor’s Corner Chapter six of John’s Gospel provided us with the teaching of Jesus about the Eucharist. He is very clear that His Flesh is true food and His Blood true drink. In the Eucharist, we are fed with the Bread from Heaven that nourishes us unto eternal life. The short catechesis that I gave about the Mass during the last few Sundays should be a primer to encourage us to learn more about the Sacred Liturgy. I am recommending three books on the Liturgy to help you learn more about the Mass. The more you know about the Mass, the more fruitful your participation will be. My three recommendations are: 1. At the Supper of the Lamb by Paul Turner (Liturgy Training Publications) 2. The Mystery of Faith by Lawrence J. Johnson (also available in Spanish) (Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions) 3. Encountering Christ in the Words of the Mass by Christopher Carstens & Douglas Martis (Liturgy Training Publications)
