Hello, everyone! My name is Jennifer Giessler and I’m the new Senior and Adult Program Supervisor here at the Lathrem Center. I have a degree in Health and Physical Education from University of Dayton and studied toward a Masters Degree in Recreation at BGSU. I am also a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional through the National Recreation and Parks Association. Prior to working in municipal recreation, I was a Programmer for the Jewish Community Center in Dallas where I worked in fitness, women’s sports and senior programming. When I returned to Dayton, I worked as a substitute teacher, managed a fitness center and worked at the Senior Resource Connection downtown. I also worked for the City of Kettering as a day camp director and aerobics instructor at the Lathrem Center. In 1993, I started my municipal recreation career with the City of Oakwood as a Program Supervisor in youth sports, day camps and senior programs. I moved to Livingston, New Jersey in 2001 where I supervised preschool through senior programs. I moved to Tampa, Florida, in 2009 and worked for the City of Tampa supervising a mid-sized community center with programming for all ages and a year round swimming pool. For the past 4.5 years, I managed the 30,000 square foot Largo Community Center with a strong senior adult focus including cards, games, arts and crafts, fitness, monthly luncheons, seasonal parties, concerts and trips. With an extensive background in senior and adult programming, I’m excited about the possibilities that are open to us to create an environment that supports both our existing programs that are loved by our sustaining members and introducing new programs that will appeal to our next generation of members as well as provide new opportunities for our current members. It is key to the health of all communities that seniors feel safe and engaged. The services we provide through social/educational/wellness programming and transportation are of huge importance to Kettering and the surrounding areas and it is my privilege to help ensure that the Lathrem Center remains at the top of its game. I am fortunate to be inheriting a well-managed and strongly supported program area and I am looking forward to working with Brittany, Jena, our transportation crew and the front desk staff as we start our journey together. If we haven’t met yet, please feel free to stop by the office and say “hi”. My door is always open and I love a good chat. Let’s have some fun!
