CHS STATE ATHLETICS We had a strong team attend this year’s CHS athletics events. Our dream team U/16 girls relay team came away with a silver medal. This team consisted of Tiahna Skelton, Paige Worley, Kyah Watters and Jasmine Craft. Tiahna Skelton won a gold medal in the 400 metre hurdles and she competed against girls in the open division. She was also injured, so she missed potential medals in a number of other events. There were also some good performances by Joshua Dollin and Noah Iles in the 400m sprint, Sophie Urane in the high jump, Kahlee Dunn in the shotput and Madison Bragg in the triple jump.

Mr Brenden Kelana Sports Organiser LAWN BOWLS On Monday 21 October CCWC entered two teams in the Let's Play Bowls Hunter Region Lawn Bowls Gala Day 2019 at New Lambton Bowling Club.

GIRLS: We were represented by Taylah Hingst, Meghan Needs, Lily Spooner and Savannah Villis, who all displayed excellent skill and teamwork and were unlucky to not progress through to the semi-finals.

BOYS: Jye Clark, Morgan Garrett, Ethan McPherson and Jack Starr performed to an outstanding level on the day, going through to win the Grand Final and earning $1000 in prize money for CCWC.

A great day all round!

Mr Chris Tyrie Lawn Bowls Coach

NETBALL 15’s NETBALL CITY ZONE GALA DAY: Our Under 15’s netball team participated in the City Zone carnival on Tuesday 29 October at National Park. The girls had a slow start to the day during their first game, but quickly found their form and remained undefeated winning the City Zone Gala Day. The girls will now play in the Hunter Region Carnival later in the term. The entire team played with enthusiasm and a positive attitude throughout the day, giving their all to every minute they played on the court and representing CCWC with pride.

A special mention to Kahlee Dunn who led by example both on and off the court, and two of our younger players Ana Afu and Tyla Siulai who were exceptional in every game they played.

Mrs Amanda Phillips Netball Coach

SOCCER CITY ZONE SOCCER GALA DAY: CCWC hosted the 9th annual Year 7 City Zone Soccer Gala Day at Federal Park in September. Schools involved were CC Wallsend, CC Waratah, Lambton High, Merewether High & Hunter School of the Performing Arts, with a total of 13 teams playing off for the prestige of being crowned City Zone Champions.

Participation, enjoyment and outstanding sportsmanship were the key factors on this day and terrific football was played by all, highlighted by lots of smiling faces. Merewether High were crowned Boys champions and Lambton High took out Girls champions.

A huge thank you to our Years 9 and 10 Soccer Elective students that were involved in running this very successful and enjoyable day. Between them, these students played the roles of referee, linesmen, treasury, draw coordinators and results official.

Mr Mick Psarris Soccer Coach & Organiser RUGBY LEAGUE MARK SARGENT 9 A-SIDE COMPETITION: Congratulations to the U13’s boys Rugby League team who reached the semi-finals. The boys were defeated by a very strong Hunter Sports High School team.

Mr Andrew Johnson Rugby League Coach TOUCH FOOTBALL YEAR 7/8 GIRLS: Twenty students represented the school at the Touch Gala day, which was held on Friday 13 September. CCWC1 (Blue strip) managed to claim 2 wins and suffered a loss in their final game. CCWC2 (Black strip) claimed 3 wins and suffered a close loss early in the day. All games played were exceptionally competitive, with neither team progressing to the semi in their pool. All players showed exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the day. Overall, it was a fantastic day out. My hearty congratulations to all players involved.

Ms Sophie Ray, Girls Touch Football Coach

YEAR 7/8 BOYS: The boy’s team started the day with two convincing wins over Irrawang High (7-0) and Belmont Christian College (5-0). The boys then had a tough game against Hunter Sports High. After leading 1-0 for virtually the entire game, they let a late try in to finish with a 1 all draw. The next fixture against Singleton High had the boys concede defeat 3-1 which stopped them from progressing to the finals. They bounced back with a good win (8-0) against St Josephs of Aberdeen to finish what was an enjoyable day of touch footy.

Players’ player on the day was Tallis Filipo and coaches award went to Kieren Brett.

Mr Joshua Corby, Boys Touch Football Coach
