MR. & MRS. ROBERT HART RESIDENCE
"Well building hath three conditions: Commodity,
Firmness, and Delight." - Sir Henry Wotton
The Hart residence was conceived and designed, with
essentially the same three conditions, updated
somewhat to the 21st century and applied specifically
to the Owners' wants and necessities.
COMMODITY: The use and purpose of the home
(its 'commodity') is to be a gathering place for the far
flung family and close friends. First and foremost, they
wanted their home to be family and guest friendly.
FIRMNESS: The second objective ('firmness') was not just
quality construction and a lasting structure. They set out
to build a sustainable house that was environmentally
friendly in all respects.
DELIGHT: While they were very clear about the purpose
and use of the house, and about the way they wanted
the house to fit into and affect the environment, they
were equally committed to the goal of building a
beautiful home and garden designed and executed
