SERENADE WITH JAZZ

COME SUNDAY
Lord, dear Lord above, God almighty, God of love, please look down and see my people through.Lord, dear Lord of love, God of mercy, God of love, please look down and see my people through.I believe that God put sun and moon up in the sky.I don’t mind the gray skies ’cause they’re just clouds passing by.He’ll give peace and comfort to ev’ry troubled mind.
NR. 3: HEAVEN
Heaven, my dream, Heaven divine, Heaven supreme.Heaven combines ev’ry sweet and pretty thing. Life would love to bring. Heavenly, Heaven, heavenly to be is just the ultimate degree to be.
Come Sunday, oh, come Sunday, that’s the day.
Often we feel weary but He knows our ev’ry care.Go to Him in secret; He will hear your ev’ry prayer.Up from dawn ‘til sunset people work hard all the day.Come Sunday, Oh, come Sunday, that’s the day.Amen.
NR. 5: ALMIGHTY GOD
Almighty God has those angels Away up there above. Up there a weaving sparkling fabrics Just for you and me to love. Almighty God has those angels Up in the proper place Waiting to receive and to welcome us and remake us in grace. Wash your face and hands and heart and soul, 'cause you wash so well God will keep you safely where there's no surpher smell. Almighty God has those angels as ready as can be Waiting to dress, caress and bless us all in perpetuity.

DEEP RIVER (SPIRITUAL)
Deep River, my home is over Jordan.Deep River, Lord, I want to cross over into campground.Oh, don’t you want to go to that Gospel
HALLELUJAH
(TEXT: LEO ROBIN/CLIFFORD GREY)
I’m recallin’ times, when I was small, in light and free jubilee days.Old folks prayin’ ev’rybody swayin’,Loudly, I chanted my praise. How I sang about the Judgement morn,And of Gabriel tootin’ on his horn.In that sunny land of milk and honey,I had no complaints,While I thought of Saints,So I say to all who feel forlorn:
LOVER MAN
(MUSIK: JIMMY DAVIS/RAM RAMIREZ,
TEXT: JIMMY SHERMAN)
I don’t know why but I’m feeling so sadI long to try something I’ve never hadNever had no kissin’, oh, what I’ve been missin’Lover man, oh, where can you be?
The night is cold and I’m so all aloneI’d give my soul just to call you my ownGot a moon above me but no one to love meAnd lover man, oh, where can you be?
feast that promised land where all is peace.Deep River, my home is over Jordan.Deep River, Lord, I want to cross over into campground.
NR. 7: FREEDOM
To be contented pris’ners of love, or to reach beyond our reachto reach for a star, or go about the bus’ness of becoming who we already areFreedom, freedom, freedom’s what you thought you heard.Freedom, freedom, freedom’s not just one big word.Freedom, freedom, a perfect healing salve. Freedom, freedom, it’s what you’ve got to have.
Freedom, freedom, freedom’s good both night and day. Up and down and all around and all the way, give me freedom, freedom, freedom must be won, ‘cause freedom’s even good fun.Freedom is sweet on the beat, freedom is sweet to the reet complete. It’s got zestness and bestness, sugar and cream on the blessedness,No more pains, no more chains, to keep me from being free.Freedom is sweet, fat and that’s for me.
Sing »Hallelujah! Hallelujah!« and you’ll shoo the blues away; When cares pursue ya »Hallelujah«Gets you through the darkest day.Satan lies awaitin’ and creatin’ skies of gray,But »Hallelujah! Hallelujah!«Helps to shoo the clouds away.
I’ve heard it said that the thrill of romanceCan be like a heavenly dreamI go to bed with a prayer that you’ll make love to meStrange as it seems
Someday we’ll meet and you’ll dry all my tearsThen whisper sweet little things in my earHugging and a-kissing, oh, what we’ve been missingLover man, oh, where can you be?
John Wilbye (1574 – 1638), Arr. Richard DeRosa (*1955)
DRAW ON, SWEET NIGHT
Draw on, sweet Night, best friend unto those caresThat do arise from painful melancholy. My life so ill through want of comfort fares,That unto thee I consecrate it wholly.Sweet Night, draw on! My griefs, when they be told
To shades and darkness, find some ease from paining,And while thou all in silence dost enfold,I then shall have best time for my complai-ning

WATER NIGHT
(TEXT: OCTAVIO PAZ 1914 – 1998)
Night with the eyes of a horse that trembles in the night,Night with eyes of water in the field asleepIs in your eyes, a horse that trembless, is in Your eyes of secret water.Eyes of shadow-water,Eyes of well-water,Eyes of dream-water.Silence and solitude,Two little animals moon-led,Drink in your eyes,Drink in those waters.
AWAKE, O NORTH WIND
(TEXT: AUS DEM HOHELIED 4,16)
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices there of may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.
If you open your eyes, night opens doors of musk,The secret kingdom of the water opensFlowing from the center of the night. And if you close your eyes,A river, a silent and beautiful current, fills you from within,Flows forward, darkens you:Night brings its wetness to beaches in your soul.
HIS LEFT HAND
(TEXT: AUS DEM HOHELIED 2,6/8,3)
His left hand shall be under my head, and his right hand shall embrace me.
Nils Lindberg (*1933) 3 Songs with texts by Christiana Georgina Rossetti (1830 – 1894)
REMEMBER
Remember me when I am gone away,Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand,Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.Remember me when no more, day by day,You tell me of our future that you plann’d:Only remember me; you understandIt will be late to counsel then or pray.Yet if you should forget me for a whileAnd afterwards remember, do not grieve:For if the darkness and corruption leaveA vestige of the thoughts that once I had,Better by far you should forget and smileThan that you should remember and be sad.
ECHO
Come to me in the silence of the night;Come in the speaking silence of a dream;Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as brightAs sunlight on a stream;Come back in tears,O memory, hope, love of finished years.
Oh dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,Where souls brim-full of love abide and meet;Where thirsting longing eyesWatch the slow doorThat opening, letting in, lets out no more.
Yet come to me in dreams, that I may liveMy very life again tho’ cold in death:Come back to me in dreams, that I may givePulse for pulse, breath for breath:Speak low, lean low,As long ago, my love, how long ago.
FLY AWAY
Fly away, fly away over the sea,Sun-loving swallow, for summer is done;Come again, come again, come back to me,Bringing the summer and bringing the sun.

BELOVED – SONGS OF SONGS
This is my beloved, and this is my friend.
Set me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thine arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave.Behold, thou art fair, my love; Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the com-panions harken for thy voice: ›Cause me to hear it.‹
Until the day breathe, and the shadows flee, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. His mouth is most sweet; he is altogether lovely. His lips are as lilies and flowing myrrh.
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet; honey and milk are under thy tongue. Thou hast ravished my heart, my bride.
His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks.Thine eyes are as doves behind thy veil; His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as banks of sweet herbs; His locks are curled, and black as a raven.Thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one bead of thy necklace. His legs are as pillars of marble. His hands are as rods of gold. His body is as polished ivory overlaid with sapphires.
Thy breasts are like fawns that are twins of a gazelle that feed among the lilies.Thou art all fair, my love; and there is no spot in thee.
How much better is thy love than wine, and the smell of thine ointments than all manner of spices!Thou art a fountain of gardens, a well of living waters and flowing streams.
I sleep, but my heart waketh; Hark! My beloved knocketh: Open to me, my love, my dove, my unde- filed; for my head is filled with dew, my locks with the drops of the night.’Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his precious fruits. Many waters cannot quench love; neither can the floods drown it.
If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, he would utterly be condemned.
Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like a gazelle upon the mountains of spices.
This is my beloved, and this is my friend.
Set me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thine arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave.Behold, thou art fair, my love; Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions harken for thy voice: ’Cause me to hear it!
