Although we have always been grateful recipients of positive feedback from our customers, I feel that lately this praise has been especially heartfelt. The consistent word that our customers use to describe their experience of the work that we do is universal: our Body Serene feels like a “haven” from the stress and responsibilities that affect their busy lives.

Defined by the dictionary, a “haven” is a place sought for rest, shelter, or protection. Wow, what a tremendous compliment! However, when I reflect on the underlying values that drive everything our Body Serene Team strives for, it is the ultimate indication that we are succeeding at our intention to create an experience of value for everyone who walks through our door. When someone visits our spa we want them to feel cared for, safe and indulged.

As this year’s Holiday Season we are focused on ways The Body Serene can help our community pause and experience the joys of connection, gratitude and generosity. Here are some of our thoughts on how we can assist in avoiding the stress and embracing the ease and comfort of what we have to offer: • Exchange some time with a friend or loved one and spend an hour having a

luxurious pedicure side by side • Give a beautifully wrapped Body Serene Gift Card to someone in your life who

deserves some time in our “haven” (parents, grandparents, coworkers, care-givers, babysitters, teachers, etc….)

• GET SHELLACKED! This innovative nail service allows nails to look great for up to two weeks! Less maintenance and all the polish!

• Avoid the malls and box stores and shop our boutique for lovely, unique and handcrafted items from around the world! We have chosen each item for its quality and affordability and have highlighted some of these special lines for you on the next page.

• Take a small bit of time and spend it with us, just for you, to escape the frenzy and be refreshed and ready to take on the Season!

Let us be a haven for you and those you care for this Holiday Season approaches...

Thank you!

With the winter/holiday season quickly approaching, we have asked Dr. Jennifer Dupré to give us a few

tips to look your best and have a healthy and stress-free holiday season:

SM: Welcome back Dr. Dupré. Our clients have enjoyed our interviews throughout this year. As the holiday season is fast approaching, we were hoping to discuss ways for our clients to stay healthy and stress free during this busy time of year.

JD: Thank you Roseanne. It is always a pleasure speaking with you. I agree that the holiday season can be a stressful time for many people. However, it is important to always remember that the holidays are supposed to be fun. Unfortunately, many people spend it stressed and worried.

SM: Is there a way that you recommend that people can stay more stress free?

JD: I find that if you stay organized and have realistic plans that you abide to, the season will go smoother. I would recommend making a list of what you want to accomplish during the holidays and then estimate the amount of time you will need to complete each task. Then look at your calendar and determine a timeline for your tasks. After you have completed this, it is important to create a realistic financial budget and then stick to it. This will avoid unnecessary stress in January, once the bills start arriving. Reassess your goals, timeline and budget on a weekly basis and make small modifications as needed.

SM: As you know, food is the foundation of most holiday celebrations. How do you approach weight loss during this time of year?

JD: It is important to remember that a holiday is only one day. It is not a week, month or a season. Most Americans gain between 7-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. Moderation is always the key to success. During this time of year it is important to have realistic weight goals. It is more important to maintain your weight than focusing on significant weight loss.

SM: How should people prepare for attending the multiple holiday parties and celebrations that will occur?

JD: A person should never have to deprive themselves at a gathering. Instead, by having a small amount of self restraint, you will be able to maintain the way you look and feel throughout the holiday season. On the day of the party, eat a breakfast high in protein and fiber. Throughout the day, to the party fill up on foods rich in protein, such as grilled chicken, almonds, etc. You never want to go to a party hungry. This will prevent you from overeating at the event.

SM: As the winter weather is fast approaching, is there a way for our clients to maintain healthy skin?

JD: As the air gets colder and dryer, your skin loses moisture more quickly and our skin becomes drier. Dry skin is more susceptible to damage. It is extremely important to apply a moisturizer daily to keep your skin hydrated. The moisturizer should contain antioxidant vitamins C and E as well as vitamin A. Also, continue to wear sunscreen throughout the winter months. The winter sun can still damage your skin. Lastly, place a humidifier in your bedroom to add moisture back into the air while you sleep. Facials and microdermabrasion are also wonderful tools to maintaining healthy skin.

Team SPOTLIGHT

Cara MattisThis extraordinary woman has graced our team for 15 years! In addition to being a licensed massage therapist, Cara is a licensed esthetician and a certified La Stone Massage Therapist.

Cara has always understood the importance of taking good care of our

customers and she has been able to succeed at this as a therapist and a guest service team member. When she is not caring for folks at our spa Cara loves taking care of her precocious and adorable 7 year old daughter, as well as hiking and reading.

She loves to make people smile and feel good and enjoys the camaraderie of the team at The Body Serene and the atmosphere we provide for the customers. “I feel blessed to have the opportunity to touch so many people in amazing ways!’’ We are blessed to have such a warm, genuine person on our team!

SM: Are there any ways for our clients to erase some of the signs of aging prior to their holiday parties?

JD: Yes. One quick way to erase fine lines and wrinkles is to use injectable, such as Botox, and collagen fillers, such as Juvederm. I would recommend getting these products up to one week prior to the event in order to maximize the results. Many of these products can be administered by a variety of medical personnel. I would only recommend getting these products by a physician or nurse, who has been doing this for many years and has a proven track record. This is a form of art and the results can be amazing in the right hands. Your clients are more than welcome to call our office if they are interested in these services and we would be happy to schedule them a complementary consultation.

SM: Thank you so much, Jennifer. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

JD: Thank you for including me again. I hope you and your clients stay healthy and stress free in the upcoming months. Happy Holidays.

Lisa FranklinLisa joined our Massage Team in May of 2010 after she graduated from The National Academy of Massage Therapy and Healing Sciences. Now in addition to working at The Body Serene she also serves as a clinic supervisor at the school she attended.

After working as an insurance agent for 30 years she was laid off. Lisa decided to pursue a career she felt passionate about and read anything she could about massage, aroma therapy and the healing sciences. Lisa has a grown son and she and her hubby live close by.

When asked about working at the spa she says “ I like the variety of people who come across the table”. She also likes the team of people she gets to work with at Body Serene. We love Lisa’s smile and easy going nature along with her talent and passion for massage therapy!
