This Date in Blades History: March 22, 1970…All eight teams in the Western Canada Hockey League made the playoffs that season and the Blades benefitted from that…and put a scare into the Calgary Centennials in the opening round. Coming off an 18-41-1 regular-season, which left Saskatoon last in the Western Division, the Blades waltzed into the Stampede Corral and shocked the Centennials 4-1 in Game 1. Saskatoon also won Games 3 and 5, but couldn’t close out the series, losing in Game 7 to a Calgary team that was 38 points better than them in the regular-season at 37-22-1. One member of that Blades’ team…current assistant coach Jerome Engele.
