SERMON NOTES

1. How does the phrase “Our Father” show us God’s immanence? What does it mean to be adopted by God? How did adoption come about?

2. How does the phrase “who is in heaven” show us God’s transcendence? What does it mean that God is King and Ruler? Why do you think this is included in the Lord’s prayer?

3. What does “hallow” mean? Why do you think Jesus is teaching us to pray for God’s name to be hallowed?

4. What is the significance of God’s name? What can the Lord’s prayer teach us about being holy in this first petition?

5. How does hallowing God’s name put the church on mission? What is the mission we, as the church, have been given?

6. How does the Lord’s prayer relate to the great commission? (Matthew 28:18–20)

MATTHEW 6:9Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
