TRANSCRIPT
On Wednesday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day), we began a new season in the Church calendar
together—the Season of Lent. February 14th was Ash Wednesday—the gateway to the season of
Lent, and when we usually kick off our Lenten worship series. This year, we started a series then
called “More Than Survivors: What it Takes to Thrive Spiritually.” And we’ve been at it ever since.
This is a study of eight biblical characters who were more than survivors. And the lessons we learn
from them, we’ll be applying to our lives during this season and beyond. Following are the upcoming
sermon titles for this series:
March 4 – “It’s Time to Rebuild the Walls!” (Nehemiah 2:11-18; 13:15-22)
March 11 – “BRIDGE BUILDING 101: How to Be Positive in a Put-Down World” (Acts 17:16-34)
March 18 – “AXE THE EXCESS!” (Daniel 1:1-20)
March 25 – “GET OUT OF THE BOAT!” (Ruth 1:1-18)
March 30 (Good Friday) – “I’VE GOT A RIVER OF
LIFE…” (Hebrews 12:1-2, 14-29)
The series will conclude on Good Friday.Along with the
opportunities at Trinity for worship during the season, we
will also be having 3 weeks of group studies on
Wednesdays, March 7, 14 and 21—7 PM, in the
Fellowship Hall. These will be led by Pastor Rom and will
dig into the previous Sundays topic just a little deeper. It
will also be an informal time of worship, as Priscilla and
Jason Ehlert lead us in song. We’re excited about this
series and this season before us. Join us, won’t you?

see what they did after the survivors got through their ordeal? Did you see what the survivors all did after the crises of their lives? They went ‘…to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate….” God’s people have always been big on celebrating … and that’s what worship really is. It’s a celebration of all God’s done for us. It’s a celebration that God has pulled us through yet another situation in life. It’s a celebration that only those who are ‘more than survivors’ usually take part in. And we have the opportunity to worship regularly around this place—Trinity UMC.
So, how thankful have you been? How many times have you known that you’ve survived a situation or two—knowing that there’s no way you could have gotten through whatever is was … on your own? In other words, you know in your heart of hearts that God had a hand in your survival. The biblical response for all of us who are ‘survivors’ … is to worship. Join us, as we gather for worship on Sundays at both 8 AM and 10 AM, as well as for three weeks of group study on March 7, 14 and 21 (Wednesdays), at 7 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We’d love to have you…
Lenten blessings,
Pastor Rom
“SURVIVORS: WHAT SHOULD OUR
RESPONSE BE?”
Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
17 If
any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, they will have no rain.
18 If the
Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The LORD will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that
do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
19 This will be the punishment of
Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of
Tabernacles.. – Zechariah 14:16-19 (NIV)
Dear Trinity family,
Greetings in the precious name of Jesus—our Lord and Savior! We are currently in the midst of studying eight biblical ‘heroes of the faith’ who were ‘more than survivors.’ But there are many other examples of ‘survivors’ in the Bible too. The scripture above, from the prophet Zechariah, speaks of those who have survived a time of war. Jerusalem was under the captivity of those who were not God’s people. The prophecy is one of the deliverance of Jerusalem—the Holy City. And the very beginning of this scripture speaks of ‘the survivors’…
There were many in the Bible who survived many things in life we hope we will never have to go through. Yet, like them, we have times in our lives when we feel like we are ‘survivors’ too. We survive health crises. We survive family issues. We even survive personal spiritual times when we begin to question our faith. Many of us could be considered ‘survivors’ in a variety of ways.
The one thing I notice in the scripture above, however (and many others in the Bible), is the reaction of those who have survived. There’s my cue on how to handle being a ‘survivor’ too—actually ‘more than a survivor.’ Did you

available for our church budget. Keep
up the good work.
Thank-You
We would like to thank all the
wonderful volunteers who helped
serve the Loaves & Fishes meal
Monday evening. They served 137
meals to mostly very grateful clients.
We would especially like to thank the
second shift of volunteers that came in
to help with the clean up. Their help
gave us more mature volunteers a
welcome hand which made the task
much easier and was finished quickly.
Cookies-Cookies-Cookies
Once again the busy bakers from
Trinity came through. We had a large
quantity of assorted cookies and bars
to give our clients. We even had beau-
tifully decorated valentine’s cookies
that garnered lots of compliments
(rumor has it that they tasted good
also). Trinity members put together a
delicious meal and were a pleasure to
work with.
Many Thanks,
Lee Oestreich & Gary Jesse

so a total of $600.00 was raised for the “Roof Fund”.
Approximately 30 different dishes were lined up for all to sample and the 1st and 2nd place winners were…

2nd Place-Gary Jesse with Bold Bacon Bratwurst Barbeque Baked Beans
Thanks again to each and every one of you who helped to make this day of fun and fellowship possible.

UPDATE ON ROOF
After about 30 years, both the church & parsonage roofs are in need of replacement. A roof fund has been
established. To date, we have approximately $10,500 toward the new roofs. An estimated cost for com-
pleting the roofs (metal) would be in the range of $100,000-125,000. It is yet to be determined whether we’ll
roof with metal or shingles (the Trustees are working on final estimates now). Thank you for your generosity
in giving and continued support of Trinity UMC and its ministries. The Finance Committee
