Directory Update!
It’s important for our church family to know how to get in touch with each
other, and that information changes a lot and frequently.
A draft of the directory will be on a table near each entry to the church
sanctuary and fellowship hall by Wednesday. Please double-check that your
information is accurate and complete and make necessary changes. You may
also call the church office, 606-678-5731, or email the office at
[email protected], to update any changes.
We need the names of all in your household, your mailing address, phone contact information for
each member of your family—cell and home, email addresses for each member, birthday and any
anniversaries.
With parent’s permission, this year we would like to have the birthdates of all children age 18 and
under. Please also include age or birth year.
If you have any feedback or requests regarding this update, please contact the church office,
(606) 678-5751. We hope to soon have an updated directory to be shared with all.
NOW is the time to begin...
Now is the time to begin... Thinking and planning and opening your heart to Advent and Christmas.
So often the holidays sweep us up and come like a Mack truck and we struggle to just get through
them. It's a relief to get to January 2nd.
Promise yourself ... Not this year.
This year set aside 10 or 15 minutes every morning to pray. To clear your mind and heart and to
listen to God's word for you and your family. Pray alone and pray with your family. It's important for
your children to pray WITH you and to see that prayer is important to you.
The gift we all receive at Christmas is the joy of a tiny baby God-child. We haven't done anything to
earn that love and we surely don't deserve it, but we receive it all the same. We receive it, as
Barrington Bunny taught us, "with no strings attached."
Give yourself the gift of time in prayer and listening quietness, and feel Christ draw near to you.
It is also the time to DO.
Put the focus for you and your family on DOING for others.
Start NOW to talk about CIA Shopping - what it is and why we do it. We as a church family can re-
mind ourselves and teach our children to think and remember those who have little in contrast to our
abundance.
We will take up the CIA Shopping offerings November 19th and November 26th. Start NOW... Put a
bowl on your family dining table and add money to it every day. Encourage your kids to contribute
their money by sharing their allowance and doing chores to EARN what they put in. It doesn't help
your kids to hand them offering money as they walk into church. Use this offering to teach them
how important GIVING is... Giving that means giving up something so others may have.
Try this: after Halloween, no family member gets to buy "stuff" for themselves... Especially the
KIDS. That money instead goes in the bowl. No toys for them, no extra candy treats, no extra
anything...

Exciting Archaeological Find!
Recent work at an archaeological dig in the Middle East has unearthed 2000-year-old video and
audio recordings which are remarkably well-preserved. The Children's Choir Director has obtained
copies of these artifacts and we will have a viewing of them on Sunday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m.
The events of the Christmas story will be depicted with the help of the historic News Anchor at
WFPC-TV and Roving Reporter at its sister station, WXMS-FM. The Children's Choir will also
assist with the presentation, which is sometimes called the "Christmas Pageant."
All are welcome! Light refreshments will be served following the event.
Have them clear out toys and games that are still nice but no longer played with and let your kids
take them WITH you to donate to Toys for Tots.
Let your kids see you NOT buying an extra coffee or muffin, or a new outfit, or a cute decoration.
Let them see you put that money in the bowl and say where you saved it.
And mark in big letters on your family calendar, CIA SHOPPING on December 3rd. Then we will
gather as a church family at the ungodly hour of 7:30-8:00am to share Baxter's coffee and pastries
and to share hugs and laughter and the annual photo and prayer before we take the names and ages
of children we will shop for..and we GO.
We will go - all of us of all ages - to WalMart to find the "most perfect gifts" for the names we
have been assigned. We will know how much we can spend for each child based on how much
offering we have received. Watch the joy on your kids' faces as they work to find the best gifts.
Feel your heart warm as you shop for your child.
We will bring the gifts back to the Fellowship Hall and, after worship, we will feast again - this
time on pizza and cookies - and we will wrap each gift.
It is the biggest Mission project we do each year and the one closest to our hearts.
Give yourself and your family this gift for Christmas... The pure joy of giving to those in need.
And share this special time with your church family.
