from under the same roof as testing.

TREATMENT METHODOLOGYSpectrum Labs isn’t just known for it’s sensitive testing assay. Spectrum has also made a name for ourselves because of our comprehensive approach to treatment.

While other labs are limited the number of allergens to 12-15, Spectrum increases the likelihood for quicker, more lasting relief by including up to 21 allergens in a single treatment set, often for a price that is a fraction of what other labs charge.

COMPLIMENTARY COMPETITOR RETESTSpectrum Labs is so confidant about our results that if you have an animal that has been tested elsewhere we will retest at no charge.

Why do we offer this? By the time your clients have paid for testing and treatment they expect results. As a clinic, it is your reputation on the line if they don’t get results. We work diligently to be a great reflection on your clinic and want to work with you on your most difficult cases, to earn your business.

TESTING METHODOLOGY

Page 2: Serum allergy: testing & treatment

P

Collect 6-10 ml whole blood*. Allow to stand until clotted and centrifuge. Decant or aspirate the serum and place in Spectrum Labs’ serum collection vial. Simply place the vial, along with completed history and order forms, in the provided shipping materials and submit to Spectrum Labs for testing. Results will then be faxed, mailed or telephoned, depending on individual requirements. In the absence of a centrifuge, blood may be refrigerated overnight to allow the clot to retract and serum can then be decanted.

All results will be available within 48 hours of receipt of sample.

As an added convenience, Spec-trum will provide you with pre-paid Federal Express mailers to submit samples at no additional cost. Your samples will reach our lab in one day.

The SPOT Test makes use of patented covalent technology to ensure binding of allergen to the testing surface, thus eliminating false negative results which are so prevalent in standard ELISA assays. In addition, serum samples are first pre-treated to enhance accuracy and reliability. These immunosorbant procedures significantly lower the concentration of competing antibodies.

Upon exposure to antigen, the body produces antibody (IgE and IgG). IgG, being the predominant antibody, is produced in larger quantities than IgE. This circulating IgG interferes with typical solid matrix assays and may produce false negative results. To counteract this, all serum samples are first absorbed with a Staphylococcal protein A, immunoabsorbant. This protein has a strong binding affinity to the Fc portion of the IgG molecule thus removing it from the serum.

Another factor that interferes with test accuracy is non-allergen specific IgE antibody in the serum. High levels of non-allergen specific IgE are usually caused by parasitic infections in animals.

This non-allergenic specific IgE may skew the results and result in false positives. Since helminthes are one of the most common antigens responsible for high IgE levels, this problem is resolved by absorbing serum samples with a helminthes immunoabsorbant thus reducing the overall concentration of non-allergen specific IgE.

Both of the above steps serve to boost both the specificity and sensitivity of the SPOT test.

With results of inhalant, mold, indoor and flea allergens, as well as a completed history form, a specific treatment set can be made for each animal. The set consists of three vials of increasing allergen concentration, which are administered subcutaneously over a period of nine months. Thereafter maintenance vials are available for further six to eight month periods of therapy. Each three vial treatment set can contain up to twenty individual allergens.

Treatment sets are manufactured and supplied directly by Spectrum Labs.

Sets are shipped to you within 72 hours of order. In addition your client will be provided with a Treatment Diary explaining the process of hyposensitization, as well as providing them a means of tracking their progress.T

A report will be generated indicating the result of each allergen tested within each screen ordered. Class scores are then reported as follows: < 150 Negative 150-199 Borderline 200-399 Positive Since the only form of therapy in the case of food allergies is avoidance of the offending food types, Spectrum Labs provides a food recommendation letter by comparing food results with a database of food types available from commercial food manufacturers.

This database is maintained from information provided regularly by the major pet food manufacturers. This letter is supplied with results at no additional cost.
