Through the Intercession of Venerable Henriette Delille Dear Sisters of the Holy Family, Several years at a Christmas dinner, I met a lady that told me she was a distant cousin of Venerable Henriette Delille. She gave me a prayer card that has her picture. The prayer is for Henriette Delille’s Beatification. My brother in law was very ill at the Veterans Hospital. They had a difficult time finding a nursing home for him. Nothing seemed to be available. I pray everyday to Henriette Delille This time I asked for a very big favor of her. I asked to please find a place for him. My prayers were answered. They found a facility for him and several times after that also. I am writing this letter in thanks-giving. I continue to pray to her every single day. Thank you dear Henriette Delille. Sincerely, L.B., CA Dear Sister, I am very thankful for all your prayers. I am presently in remission. I just had surgery. I have another surgery coming up. I’m recovering from reconstruction surgery.

Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers. Thank all of you for your prayers. May God forever bless and keep all of you. K.G. LA I am so very grateful for my answered prayers. God listened to me on Tuesday and gave me a new chance at life. My grat-itude is overwhelming and I am so indebted to God through the intercession of Venerable Henriette Delille. Thank you so much for your prayers. From the Internet The intercession of Venerable Mere Henriette Delille saved my daughter’s life!!!! Thank you God for Henriette Delille and the Sisters of the Holy Family. H.G,. Facebook Amazing what Venerable Henriette Delille accomplished in her life and against all odds and “laws”at that time. With her faith in God, she moved mountains. Prayers for the next step for God to let the whole world know what Henriette and He did together. V.C., Facebook I depend on Mere Henriette. She has never let me down. L.M., LA

Friends spread devotion, mirror Henriette’s ministries The NJ Chapter of the Friends of Henri-ette Delille have been very busy from the beginning, promoting and celebrating the life and legacy of Venerable Henriette Delille. We are very proud and pleased with the many activities that they have started and completed within a short time. We share with you some of the good news from New Jersey. Both the Men’s and Women’s Con-

ferences (Days of Reflection) allowed us to distribute many prayer cards to participants.

We are also very happy that several schools requested us to come and speak to the children about Venera-ble Delille.

We await a response to partner with Delille Academy in Dangriga, Belize.

The Chapter writes: It is an hon-or to promote the canonization of Venerable Henriette De-lille. In addition, all of the chap-ter Friends are so very joyful to engage in these works which mirror the acts of kindness and love displayed by Venerable Henriette Delille herself.

We encourage our various Chapters of Henriette Delille throughout the country to redouble efforts to recharge and revital-ize promotion and activities mirroring the work of Venerable Henriette Delille, still so needed in our own day. We refer you to the projects undertaken by the New Jersey Chapter in the last three

editions of our newsletter, Servant of the Poor. We are happy to re-welcome the Friends Chapter in the Washington–Virginia area. In a conference call, Dea-con A. Anderson took the leadership. along with his wife, Beverly, Emelda Au-gust, Louis and Juana M. Kleiman, and

Admiral Stephen Rochon. They will share their plans with us as they regroup and promote Venerable Hen-riette’s story as a true Christian, and pro-mote devotion to her by remembering how Henriette “gave herself in service and in love to the slaves and the sick , to the orphan and the aged, to the forgotten and the despised.”

CALLING ALL “FRIENDS of HENRIETTE DELILLE”

Congratulations to the producers, writ-ers, narrators, and all involved in the mak-ing of the documentary film: A Legacy of Love: Henriette Delille and the Sisters of the Holy Family and a giant kudos for receiv-ing the National Gabriel Award and the National Telly Award. The National Gabriel Award recognizes the best in artistic, creative, and inspira-tional media presentations that entertain and enrich with a true vision of humanity and a true vision of life. The “best of the best” will be recog-nized at the Catholic Media Conference in June in Quebec City, Quebec. Gabriel Awards nominees are recog-nized as leaders in reaching out to audi-ences. The winners are communicators of truth and beauty. May awards continue to come for superb work.

At the same conference, Monsignor Ray East based his homily at the African Ameri-can Mass on the accomplishments of Vener-able Henriette Delille. When many people of different nationali-ties saw Henriette’s photo on a poster, they asked, “Who is she?” Then they asked for more information and were enthusiastically given prayer cards and literature. Additionally, one of the books the Friends are reading in their book club is Henriette Delille by Dr. Virginia Gould.

More commentaries about Henriette

Henriette had also the spirit to give to the poor the last remaining provi-sions in the house.. There is no doubt concerning her fervent love of God. She strove in all things to do the will of God, not from fear, but love. Her undertakings for social justice are repeatedly underlined and this can be considered her particular charism.

By Dr. Gail F. Armant The Sisters of the Holy Family held its first Nationwide Day of Service in con-junction with the 175th Anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Sis-ters of the Holy Family. On Saturday, March 18, 2017 over 200 volunteers gave back to their communities. Volunteers convened at eleven sites in five cities across the United States. Associates of the Sisters of the Holy Family, Friends of Henriette Delille, and other community volunteers joined the Sisters in New Orleans, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Compton, California and New Jersey for the first annual Nationwide Day of Service. Sr. John Mary Jackson, who was at St. Augustine Church in New Orleans said “it was a beautiful day”. Her expressions were consistent with the feelings of many of the volunteers who found the day to be very rewarding. The Nationwide Day of Service was very diverse. In New Orleans, Sheriff Marlin Gusman assisted Congregational Leader Sr. Greta Jupiter and other volun-teers with serving a meal to the senior residents at Delille Inn Apartment Com-plex. Lafon Nursing Home, had over 20 volunteers who visited with its residents and spent quality time with them. Lafon

Nursing Home was founded in 1842 by the Sisters of the Holy Family and is the longest operating nursing home of its type in the United States. Volunteers gathered at St. Augustine Church, Einstein Charter School, Joe Brown Park and St. John Berchmans Early Childhood Development Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Also in Louisiana, the Nationwide Day of Service was commemorated in Lafa-yette and Baton Rouge. In keeping with the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Family, volunteers visited those who were confined to their homes or living in a nursing home. Volunteers in Houston, Texas also visited residents in a nursing home. On the east coast in Newark, New Jer-sey, the New Jersey Chapter of Friends of Delille collected 51 new pillows for the refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Democratic Republic of Congo for their use upon their arrival into the Unit-ed States. On the west coast in Compton, Califor-nia blankets were given to 190 homeless people. Smiling and appearing pleased with the service shared by the volunteers and the Sisters at this first Nationwide day of Service, Sr. Greta Jupiter stated “We will have a Nationwide Day of Service every year!”

Sister Mary Prompt Succor Arceneaux (nee Mary Rita Arce-neaux), a native New Orleanian from Corpus Christi Church Parish and daughter of the late Joseph Ed-ward Arceneaux,

Sr. and Cecilia Nelson, died Monday, April 17, 2017 at Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family. She was 97 years of age and the oldest member of the Sisters of the Holy Family. Sr. Prompt Succor entered the Congre-gation of the Sisters of the Holy Family on September 8, 1943, professed first vows on March 19, 1946, and perpetual vows August 16, 1951. During her seventy-three years as a reli-gious, Sister has ministered to God’s peo-ple in the fields of education, social ser-vices, health and eldercare, parish ministry, and for many years through her skills as a bookkeeper. Before entering the convent, Sr. Prompt Succor had graduated from Xavier Univer-sity, had been a substitute teacher in the public school, and had worked in her fa-ther’s insurance office. Upon entering the Congregation, Sr. Prompt Succor began teaching at her alma mater, St. Mary’s Academy; later she was assigned to St. Paul School in Lafayette, Sister’s educa-tional background and experience pre-pared her to do bookkeeping for many years at the Lafon Nursing Home both on Tonti and later when the facility moved to Chef Menteur Highway. Sister also served as bookkeeper at St. John Berchmans Child Care Center. Sr. Prompt Succor, after being inter-viewed, was chosen as one of the three sisters (all from different religious congre-gations) to work in the newly established Archdiocesan Experimental House. She later served in St. Alphonse Parish and worked in the Witness Program in New Orleans; provided social services and did parish ministry at Uganda Martyrs in Ok-mulgee, Oklahoma; and worked in the Motherhouse infirmary, assisting with the nursing and later teaching crafts to the

older sisters. Sister was actively engaged in prayer ministry when Hurricane Katrina caused her to relocate to Alexandria, Loui-siana. Upon her return to New Orleans, Sister entered the Lafon Nursing Facility as a resident August 25, 2011. Unlike her name in religion, Sister Prompt Succor talked slowly and moved slowly. However, her warm, friendly smile, generous heart, and kind words quickly won over all whom she met. Sister loved to talk and would lavish praise and thanks for any favor. She could offer a speech at a moment’s notice. She once wrote that she considered her most signifi-cant contributions to the Sisters of the Holy Family were teaching, nursing and social work. The gift of yourself, dear Sister, was truly your most significant con-tribution. Sister is preceded in death by her par-ents, two brothers: Joseph and Albert; four sisters: Cecilia, Julian, Bonita, and Anita. She is survived by her younger brother Anthony J. Arceneaux (Isabelle), and a host of nephews and nieces.

Sr. Augustine McDaniel remembered and

prayed for The students and staff of Presentation National High School in Benin City , Ni-geria participated in a Mass to pray for their former principal and mentor Sr. Au-gustine who died December 3, 2016 in New Orleans. Sr. Augustine served as a creative and innovative administrator of this all girls boarding school for four years. During this time she transformed the physical plant and improved and expanded the learning environment . Over seven hundred girls, teachers and staff members prayed, cried and remem-bered the care and hard work of Sr. Au-gustine. She will be gravely missed by many in this far away country of west Africa.
