How to determine impeller sizeon Sterling-SIHI hot oil pumps used by CEI

When replacing hot oil pumps, there are two key pieces of information you'll need to know. One, obviously, is the size of the pump (Figure 2).

The other is the size of the impeller that is in the pump.

Not all pumps of a given size will have the same size impeller. Depending on the application, the standard size impeller that the pump usually comes with may be too large. If so, the impeller may give too much resistance, resulting in excessive draw, tripping breakers, and likely causing other problems.

In these cases, the factory may trim the impeller to a more suitable size so that the pump will function reliably in its intended application.

On the Sterling-SIHI hot oil pumps used by CEI, the size of a trimmed impeller will be stamped or engraved on an information plate. This plate is attached to the casing of the pump (Figure 1).

The information plate denotes the size of the pump, as shown in Figure 3. The example shown is for a ZTND 050200. The standard impeller size for this pump is 214mm. The only visible indication that the pump is fitted with a standard size impeller is the lack of an additional marking in the field indicated in Figure 3.

If the factory trims the impeller, the size of the trimmed impeller will be stamped or engraved in this field (Figure 4).
