Where and When?

Alternative Learning Center West Friday, February 26th, 2010

What and Who?

Our group members introduced the Humanmetrics Personality Evaluations to

the ALC students.

Page 4: Service Learning Presentation

Why?

After we took the Humanmetrics Evaluation test ourselves, we learned a lot and it opened our eyes to how others perceive us and how we perceive ourselves.

We thought that it would be important for at risk students to also take this test to better communicate with others.

Page 5: Service Learning Presentation

Goal

We believe it’s important to give ALC students a better opportunity than what they may otherwise have.

Our goal was to give the students a better understanding of themselves so they can communicate more efficiently with their opposite types by learning their strenghts and weaknesses to better their skills in school, work and personal relationships.

Page 6: Service Learning Presentation

Challenges

Finding an appropriate time that would work for both ALC and MSB students

Getting the students interested in the evaluation so they were excited and willing to take it

Keeping the students interested in what their results were going to be and what it all meant

MSB students finding time where we were all available to meet outside of school to organize and prepare for the activity

Kayla’s A-ha Moment and Role

Help guide the ALC students with taking the test

Presented Introversion and Extroversion Made a poster with her results and

showed it to the ALC students Kayla’s A-ha moment was the fact that

the students seemed to have taken something from this experience by their exstatic expressions and their sincere gratitude

Page 8: Service Learning Presentation

Pete’s A-ha Moment and Role

Made posters for the presentation with the four categories

Made a poster with his results and showed it to the ALC students

He presented the introduction about the evaluation and was the group reporter

Pete’s A-ha moment was being blown away by the fact that the students came in acting as if they weren’t interested and once he explained it and took they test they really did like it

Page 9: Service Learning Presentation

Mary’s A-ha Moment and Role

She presented Judging and Perceiving Organized the packets for the students Worked very well one on one with ALC

students Mary’s A-ha moment was helping a

certain student through the struggles of the computer freezing and him still wanting to persue the test

Page 10: Service Learning Presentation

Crystal’s A-ha Moment and Role

She was the leader of the group and she contacted ALC and set up the meetings

She presented the background information on Jung

Made worksheets and packets for each “type”

Crystal’s A-ha moment was having certain students get excited about what they found out from the evaluation

Page 11: Service Learning Presentation

Marais’ A-ha Moment and Role

Presented Sensing and Intuition Took pictures of interactions with the

students Matched the packets with the students

once they got their results Marais’ A-ha moment was the fact that

the students wanted to show her the progress they were making and how excited they were about it

Page 12: Service Learning Presentation

Ashley’s A-ha moment and role

She presented Feeling and Thinking Ashley was the recorder of the group She worked one on one with the students Ashley’s A-ha moment was the fact that a

student really did like it and he was very moved by the results and how much it was like him

Group A-ha Moment

A certain student came in with a negative attitude and not interested in anything we were proposing but in the end he was our most effected student. We could tell he had a high interest in wanting to better communicate with others.

The process of the students activites

Introduction on the evaluation and background on Jung

Took the Humanmetrics test www.humanmetrics.com/cgi/win/jTypes2.asp and printed results

Matched results with their personality packets Read over their results and completed a

worksheet based off of their personalities Made a self portrait poster of themselves and

the percentages off of their four traits Shared their posters with the class

Page 15: Service Learning Presentation

MSB student activites

Each member of the group previously completed the Humanmetrics evaluation and printed off their results and brought them with to share with ALC students

We also each made a poster of our personality type with the students stating our percentages

Page 16: Service Learning Presentation

Results

We feel that each student got a better understanding of themselves and how they can overall better interact with their peers

We feel that they found it very interesting and they were shocked by how close their results were to the kind of person they really are

Page 17: Service Learning Presentation

Did we meet our goal?

We feel it went extremely well and we accomplished what we wanted to do because they were excited about what we were presenting.

It was especially noticeable in a few students that they wanted to change and were very willing to participate and have a positive attitude

Page 18: Service Learning Presentation

Most proud of?

We planned for 10 students and we ended up getting more than what we expected which we were very appreciative about.

Page 19: Service Learning Presentation

What would we do differently?

We feel it would have been more helpful to have the website pulled up on the computer for the students but couldn’t do it because the students all needed their login codes

Conclusion

We feel as though doing this Service Learning Project was very educational and rewarding. We all defiantly are interested in doing more service projects in the community; whether it be with students again or for the public in general.
