UMCOR establishes Covid-19 fund

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has established a COVID-19 Response Fund to "support vulnerable populations disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus in the U.S. and around the world. Grants from this fund will be disbursed quickly and efficiently, allowing Methodist partners to address health concerns, food insecurity, water and hygiene limitations and other pressing needs in their communities." Donations can be included with apportionment remittances, or separately, with checks payable to IGRC and

noting the Advance #3022612, IGRC Fund #3140 on the memo line.

Good news, VBS is happening!!!

This year, we will be hosting VBS virtually. We wanted to wait as long as possible before making a final decision, and want to make sure everyone knows we want to be as diligent as possible in al-lowing an event like this to still take place! We have an awesome volunteer group at DownsUMC that will be banding together to record an experi-ence for your kids! We will have 2 dates for you and your kids to come into the church to see our VBS set up! And you will be sent home with Imagination Station trin-kets and information on how and when you can view each day's VBS vid-eo online! Downs UMC during Phase 4:

Phase 4 in-person worship begins today. Each Sunday the

worship will begin at 9:30 AM, with doors opening at

9am.

There will be no Sunday School or Fellowship meal

on Sunday during Phase 4.

Sanctuary hours (2-4PM) on Sunday will end (but

Monday and Thursday will continue). This is so

we can properly clean the building.

The Online service will continue exactly like you are used to

on our website www.downsumc.org. This is because we

understand many will stay home because they fall in the

following categories.

Anyone who is sick or has been exposed to someone who is ill

Anyone at high risk for Covid19 complications Anyone who cannot wear a mask (we are asking

everyone who comes to church on Sunday morning to use them)

Anyone who’s just not ready yet. We’ll be making some changes with safety in mind.

We will use masks, and keep the social distance (6 feet) guidelines

We have been asked to discourage singing We will dismiss by rows to avoid crowding. The Sanctuary will cap attendance at 50 people

What’s the service going to be like?

We’ll be using the pre-recorded online service and doing some parts of the worship service live (like the welcome/announcements, prayer, etc). Depending on whether or not we use multiple rooms (see below) there may be live piano and/or sermon from week to week, we want everyone who comes in person to have the same experience.

How will you handle the attendance cap?

We have elected not to have people register in advance because we feel that’s a major barrier to anyone who may be coming for the first time. Instead, we have several families who have pre-volunteered to step away if we get too full. They can head downstairs where we plan to use the pre-recorded service in the fellowship hall, or they can head home. If you do see someone get up to head out don’t worry, they volunteered weeks in advance to do so. It’s a service to everyone else, and we’ll have different people volunteering the next week.

Am I expected to attend?

In person, the short answer is no. As a Christian you are only

expected to worship. We very much hope that you have discovered by

now that worship can happen at home, at church, or anywhere both you

and God are… which is anywhere!

Please do not feel pressure like you have to be here, we

completely understand that there are a wide variety of very good reasons

that people will be staying at home. For that reason we’re continuing to

put our best work and creativity into the online service, and will continue

that just as before all throughout phase 4.

Please know that God is with you, your church is praying

for you, and we’d love to hear from you if you would like to call

or send an email or letter. Let us know how you’re doing, what

ministries of the church are most helpful to you, is there

anything you’d like to see us do. May God be with you until we

meet again.

Loud praise to Christ our King

Alleluia amen Let all with heart and voice Before His throne rejoice

Praise is His gracious choice Alleluia amen

Come lift your hearts on high

Alleluia amen Let praises fill the sky

Alleluia amen He is our Guide and Friend

To us He'll condescend His love shall never end

This Is Amazing Grace

Verse 1 Who breaks the power of sin and darkness

Whose love is mighty and so much stronger The King of Glory the King above all kings

Verse 2 Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder The King of Glory the King above all kings

Chorus (Oh) This is amazing grace

This is unfailing love That You would take my place That You would bear my cross

You laid down Your life That I would be set free

Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for me

Verse 3 Who brings our chaos back into order

Who makes the orphan a son and daughter The King of Glory the King above all Kings

Verse 4 Who rules the nations with truth and justice

Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance The King of Glory the King above all kings

Bridge Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy is the King who conquered the grave Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Worthy worthy worthy

and serve the evening meal for the residents at Safe Harbor. We’ll meet at 5:30, dinner is served at 7. We should be wrapped up by 8. Safer Harbor has implemented several changes due to COVID-19 to reduce exposure to their residents. Disposable dinnerware will be used, the serving window will only be partially open, and the kitchen is open only to staff and that evenings volunteers.

If interested in helping, please contact Michelle Forbes at [email protected].
