The 73rd edition of the Coke County Junior Livestock Show was held this past weekend at the Sterling Lindsey Memorial Exhibition Building in Robert Lee. This year’s show featured animals in the Market Lamb, Market Goat, Market Swine and Market Steer shows, but more importantly 47 youth exhibi- tors from around the county. The action began Friday with Rachel Everheart gar- nering both the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Lamb titles. This was followed by Rachel winning both the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Goat titles. On Saturday morning, Zach Skinner won the top spot in the Swine Show with his entry being named Grand Champion Hog. Reserve Grand Champion Hog was exhibited by Trace Oleksiuk. The Steer Show followed with another win for Rachel Everheart as she showed her European Cross steer to Grand Champion Steer. James Roberts took home the Reserve Grand Champion Steer title with his entry. A delicious barbecue lunch Pipeline Groundbreaking! Robert Lee Mayor John Jacobs was joined by City and County officials, State Representative Drew Darby, USDA representatives, Vermeer represen- tatives, engineers for the project, and many others at the long awaited groundbreaking cere- mony for the water pipeline from Robert Lee to Bronte. The ceremony was held Friday, January 20, 2012, at 1:30 pm near the beginning of the west end of the pipeline. Volunteers are installing approximately five miles of the water transmission line along Highway 158. If you would like to volunteer to help lay the pipe, cover the pipe, provide food and drinks, etc. please contact Robert Lee City Hall at 325-453-2831. Hanna Weatherby took home the Goat Showmanship award, with Katie Austin earning the Swine Showmanship Award. Jael Williams was honored with the Clay Antilley Memorial Steer Showmanship award. Rachel Everheart com- pleted her weekend with the Ralph Walker Memorial Top Hand Award. She also was awarded the Frank Percifull Overall Showmanship Award. Farm Service Agency hours to change Due to the retirement of longtime employee, Melinda Sasser, the Farm Service Agency (FSA) Office in Robert Lee will no longer have a full time employee in the office effective January 30, 2012. The only day that an employee will be present will be Tuesdays when the CED, Michael Sturm, from Tom Green County will open the office to conduct busi- ness. Business can also be conducted through the Tom Green County FAS Office at 3514 Devonian in San Angelo. FSA apologizes for any inconvenience and would encourage producers with questions to contact the Tom Green County Farm Service Agency at 325-653-1246 in San Angelo. County receives rainfall County Commissioners reinstated the county wide burn ban on Monday, but Judge Blair rescinded the ban due to Tuesday night’s moisture. Conaway to hold town halls tomorrow Congressman Mike Conaway will be in Coke County Saturday, January 28. He will hold a town hall meeting at the Coke County Courthouse in Robert Lee from 1:30 to 2:30 pm and another in Bronte at Bronte City Hall from 2:45 to 3:45. Bronte Chamber to begin annual drive for new directors The Bronte Chamber of Commerce is beginning its annual drive for new Chamber Directors. What does the Chamber do? The Chamber supports local businesses, and holds events to help bring tourism and activities to Bronte. In 2011, the Bronte Chamber hosted the Annual Chamber Banquet; Butterfield Trail Days & Cook-Off; Oldies but Goodies Car Show; Motorcycle Poker Run; Christmas in Ole Bronte; and published a Business Directory. The Chamber needs your help to keep these annual events going and to plan new events. If you would like to help, please attend the meet- ing February 6, at 6:30 pm at the Bronte Housing Authority Room on N.E. Railroad (behind the Texas Theater).
