Meditation: “Truly You are the Son of God”
My dear brothers and sisters, in the midst of the pandemic that we continue to experience, the Lord invites us to continue walking in faith and trust in Him. This Sunday, the Gospel of Matthew tells us about a crisis the disciples went through one night, so strong that it made them say: "Truly You are the Son of God." They had never seen the wonders of God.
What happened that night? We see that there are three episodes in this biblical passage. Jesus, after the multiplication of the loaves, asks his disciples to get into the boat and go to the other shore of the Lake of Galilee. He stayed to dismiss the crowds. He wanted to make sure everyone returned home safely. They had already been fed with the Bread and the Word of God. However, Jesus does not follow the disciples; He climbs the mountain to pray. One might think that after a long day of hard work, Jesus deserved a good rest. However, this is not the case. He is not going to rest, he is going to pray, he is going to be alone with his Father and to pray for his disciples who are sailing and who are going to have a very great trial soon. With this, Jesus teaches us the value and importance of prayer, a necessary element for our life of faith that sustains us in times of trial.
It is time for the second episode. After rowing most of the night and with a strong wind, Jesus sees them tired and spent; he decides to go towards just before dawn, walking on the water. Riding on the waves shows that Jesus is God and therefore is not subject to the laws of nature because He Himself is the Creator of laws. When the disciples saw Jesus walk on the water, they thought he was a ghost. "And they were screaming in terror." Jesus says to them, “Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid." In ordinary life, something similar happens to us. When a storm of trouble overwhelms us, we don't see things clearly. We see them dark as ghosts that terrify us and cause us to lose our peace. A ghost is something that breeds fear. Jesus did not intend to scare the disciples. Rather, he approached them in their time of difficulty, and they do not recognize him. They are confused and afraid. However, Peter is not afraid, he says, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus replied: Come”: third episode. We see Peter with all simplicity and at the same time with great courage. He wants to be like his Master. Peter believes that he can walk on the waters of the sea; believes he can defy the laws of nature. Jesus sees him coming and rewards him with a big smile, because that disciple has had the faith and the courage to do something that most of us do not dare to do. However, fear does come "when he felt the force of the wind, he began to sink and shouted: Save me, Lord!" Quickly, Jesus held out his hand, held it and scolded him: “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" The same thing happens to us when we want to mount our problems and stomp on them, we instead sink into them because we doubt the trust of God and of ourselves. Let us ask the Lord to help us by calling to Him: "Save me, Lord" when problems plunge us into doubt and do not let us walk towards the encounter with Jesus and say: "Truly, You are the Son of God."
Fr. Jose Ugalde, MSpS

Dear Parish community,
I am so honored and blessed to serve as the new youth minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. This type of ministry is beautiful and fulfilling, as our team has the great honor of being able to walk
with the youth on their journeys and provide a deepened sense of community and belonging.
Due to the state of the COVID-19 virus, our youth ministry programs (Sacramental Prep Year 1 & 2, Middle School Confirmation, and High School Confirmation) will be held online for the first half of
the year. This will be a new experience and ministry environment, so I kindly ask for your prayers as we build this new program.
Most importantly, I need your help! We do not have enough adult volunteers for our programs this year, so I am personally reaching out to you and asking for your support. If you feel called to work with our youth and be on the Adult Core Team for youth ministry, especially in this
time of great need during the pandemic, please email or call me ([email protected]; (425) 481-9358 Ext. 312).
We cannot run our youth programs without your help, so I am counting on you! No prior experience is needed- all you need is a heart and love for Christ. Please pray and discern if God is
calling you to this service and contact me for more information.
Also, please note that there will be a summer training for all volunteers on how to work with the new online programs, meet the other team members, build community, and develop new formation
skills. So, if you are feeling hesitant or unsure, know that great resources, training, and support will be offered.
Do not be afraid to respond to God’s calling! We need you! And thank you for prayerfully considering this ministry.
Many blessings, Kianna Garmanian

A WAITING HARVEST Vocation Awareness
Signs of a Vocation to Priesthood
and Characteristics of a Good Candidate
O Jesus, Our Eternal Pastor, Deign to look with merciful eyes Upon this part of your loving flock.
Lord, we need a large number of priests, and men and women consecrated to the religious life. Multiply vocations, And sanctify more and more your priests, And those consecrated in the religious life.
We ask you all this through the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, your sweet and holy Mother.
Jesus give us priests according to your heart.
Jesus, savior of all people, save them, save them!
For information on becoming a Religious Priest Missionary of the Holy Spirit or a Diocesan Priest contact one of the following people: Serra Club: Arthur Adams
Priests: Fr. Jose Ugalde, M.Sp.S. Fr. Jesus Sanchez, M.Sp.S.
19. A good candidate for diocesan priesthood is truly open to the will of God for his Life. Part II
Discernment Exercise
Examining oneself using these twenty qualities or signs is a good way to begin one’s discernment of priesthood, but it should not be done in a vacuum. There are many other ways to discern. Your vocation director needs to be a part of this process.
On each of the twenty points below, rate yourself on a scale of 0-5. A rating of 0 means you do not possess the sign at all. A 5 indicates that the sign is very evident in your life. The highest possible score is 100. Be completely honest with yourself and rate yourself fairly.
__1. I love Jesus Christ and I have a thirst to bring Jesus and his teachings to the world.
__2. I am endeavoring to be a believing, practicing Catholic Christian.
__3. I am trying to live a life of prayer and I desire a life of prayer.
__4. I am trying to serve others and I desire a life of service to others.
__5. I feel a desire to be a priest, though it is sometimes stronger than at other times.
__6. I have had others tell me that I should be a priest or that I would make a good priest.
__7. Prayerful reading of Sacred Scriptures leads me to believe I might be called to be a priest.
__8. I am endeavoring to live virtuously.
__9. I like to be around people, and I have sufficient social skills to engage others.
__10. I have enough intelligence to complete graduate-level coursework and function as a priest.

As we all know, the “social distancing” practices and suspension of gathering for Mass have created unique challenges to the way we practice our faith.
Nothing is more important than all of us taking the necessary steps to protect and ensure the health and well-being of our families, friends, neighbors, as well as our parish.
Although we are physically separated from the Eucharist---our church is alive and still on mission.
This year our parish share of the Appeal is $151,672. If we exceed this goal, all excess payments received will come back to us and we will put that towards recovery of lost offertory donations.
In addition, this year 10% of all the funds collected through the ACA (excluding our rebate) will be placed into a special Parish Solidarity Fund at the Archdiocese.
In this way, your donations will help us, but will also help other parishes recover.
The reality is that many of your fellow parishioners may not be able to participate this year, so your support is more important than ever.
Be assured of my gratitude for your gift –whatever the amount— and of my continuing prayers for you and your loved ones!
Fr. Jose Ugalde MSpS
The 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal is underway, and we are
seeking everyone’s participation this year so that we reach
our goal of $151,672.
All contributions received in excess of this Archdiocesan
goal will come directly back to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton as a
rebate.
Our 2020 ACA rebate goal will be used for lost offertory
donations.
If you gave to the Appeal last year, I ask you to consider
increasing your gift by 5% this year. If you are not sure
what to give, would you consider a gift of $365 ($1 per
day) ?
