Dear Families/Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you had wonderful family time over the school holidays. Happy Mother’s Day to all mums, for last Sunday! Some of the major events this term include; NAPLAN testing in week 2, Photo Day in week 4, Reconciliation Day in week 5, Tri-skills, football clinics and Student Reports coming home in week 10.
NAPLAN testing began on Tuesday for our year 3, 5 and 7 students and will be completed by the end of this week. This year we offered students a snack and a run outside before sitting to do the test. Preparing students to be at their optimal performance for success is our aim. Results for these students and their families are not expected before September. DECD is moving towards all NAPLAN tests being online in 2017 to enable the results to be available earlier for school and student planning. All schools have completed a readiness assessment of their online facilities to enable this to occur.
The Partnership Pupil Free Day that occurred on the first day of term, for classroom teachers and curriculum support staff, was about Maths. The day supported our school’s direction in the explicitness about learning intentions and success criteria for our students. Staff interacted at their year level with staff from 6 primary schools in the partnership. The collegial discussions were rich and fruitful. Our administration support staff attended professional learning in word processing skills and also report that the day added positively to their repertoire of knowledge and skills. Our next scheduled professional learning day is on Wednesday 6th July and is about writing with Sheena Cameron; a renowned educator and facilitator.
Our next Governing Council meeting is Monday week 3. If you have any thoughts about improving our school please write to our info email address that is at the top of this newsletter, and in the subject line put ‘Please forward to SFC Governing Council’. You are welcome to forward your thoughts and feedback at any time. In particular, I would love to know what you would like more information about either through the newsletter or through information evenings.
Information will be coming home separately very soon providing instructions on how to download our new School App. On the front of the app, once downloaded, there will be permanent pins that will give you access to the QKR program, from where you can order from the canteen or pay fees, plus a direct link to our latest newsletter. I am very excited about this added communication tool to build our links with every family. Please download the app once it becomes available as it will provide you with invaluable information about what is happening each week at school.
Extra lunch time activities have been in place in our yard for a couple of years now. Keeping students active during play has had a wonderfully positive impact on yard behaviour. Each term our Student Leaders negotiate with the teachers who supervise these activities as to what activities will be offered and where. They then take responsibility for advertising these activities to other students and place ‘sandwich boards’ out at the designated areas. So far this year we have had Drawing Club, Dance, Fairy Garden, Indoor Activity, Big Games, I pads and School Radio as the extra options.. These activities are very popular and two are offered every day of the week.
Forward planning: Waterworld this year will be on Monday 5th December (week 8). For those families new to our school: Last year we had our first ever whole school excursion. Over 700 students, all staff and many families went to Waterworld for the day and had an absolutely wonderful day. The feedback was so positive that we felt this should be an annual event where possible. We have finally secured this date for this year. Lots of information will come home closer to the time. I encourage you to put the date into your diary now so that you may be able to join us on the day.
Kind Regards, Tanya

Please note that our BIZGATE system has been decommissioned. You are still able to pay
money to the school with your credit card by ringing the school with your credit card details.
We are currently working on a new system for payments online.
A reminder that school fees were due to be paid by the end of last term. We are currently
working on sending out statements to families who have not made any payment or arrangement to
pay. Included in the statement will be a form to set up a direct debit payment arrangement with
EZIDEBIT. Feedback from families has been that this is a very easy option for school fee
payment. We encourage all families to look at this option.

G01 B03 B04 & B06
In term 1 G01, B03, B04 and B06 went to St Kilda. We all travelled by bus. It took two buses. When we
arrived it was a quarter to ten. All the teachers set out the rules. Which were very reasonable.
Everyone mostly went to the castle slides, but a lot of G01 went to the big, long, bumpy slide, so it was
very crowded. After the big slide everyone ate their recess. After recess everyone in G01 played
chasey in the pirate ship and on the yellow playground. A boy from G01 won by hiding in the castle slides.
Everyone was puffed, but they were still having fun!! After lunch we went looking for crabs down at the
beach area. Most of the crabs were hiding under rocks. It was very exciting, even though most of us got
our shoes dirty. When we were all cleaned up, a few kids from G01 went on the jungle gym including me,
but I was climbing on the top when they were jumping onto the trampoline area. Sadly we had to leave
and go back to school. It was one of the best excursions anyone has had!!
By Aleshia McFadyn G01
We went to St Kilda. I went on the drop slides and the castle and the zip line. I went crabbing and in the
maze. We went on a bus and then we had recess and then lunch. It was my first time on the drop slides.
It was scary and then the second time it wasn't scary at all. By Blake B04
First we went on the bus, but I don’t know why there was a toilet on the bus? When we got there I went
on the castle and I went on the drop slides. I went in the maze. At first I was doing fine then I got lost
but I found my way out. Then we went home. By Chloe B04
On Wednesday I went on an excursion to St Kilda. First I went to the big climbing thing. Me and Chloe
went there and she climbed to the top of it and I stayed on the bottom holding to bunny that Mikayla had
given Chloe to have on the playground. Me and Chloe were playing a game on there and kept throwing the
bunny up in the hole and Chloe was trying to catch it. Next we went down the spiral slide. Chloe went
first and I went second. By Hayley S B04
“I liked the big tower.
I felt really happy.”
Alysha B06
“Aiden and I went down the fast
slide. It was really fun!”
Connor B06
“It was really good.
I liked going on the bumpy slide”

We are very proud of our Students at Settlers Farm Campus. These R-2 Students received Merit Certificates at the Early Years Assembly on the 12th of April for demonstrating our values of “Respect”, “Responsibility” and “Personal Best”.
On Tuesday the 8th of March, 12 Year 7 students went to the Entertainment Centre for the Grip
Leadership conference. Grip Leadership run training for student leaders so that they can lead in
their schools. We had to write an application to be chosen as student leaders and Sarah, Chris
and Jane came to the conference with us.
The conference started at 9:15am and finished at 2:30pm. There were over 1000 students
there from different schools around Adelaide, private and public schools. We played some
games during the day that got us to interact with students from other schools. We had a
session called how to grow as a leader which used a tree as a way to show the different parts of
leadership. The tree roots were core values, the trunk was combine with others, the leaves and
branches were contribute to what is around you and the water was constant input. At 11:10am
we had a Bye Bye Bullying session where we talked about what bullying was and how we could
Spot It Out, Speak Out and Stomp It Out. We had to communicate with people from other
schools and share our ideas about how we could make a difference in our schools. Then we had a
traffic light leadership session to look at setting goals for action. Red light is things that need
to be stopped or changed around the school, amber means areas that need to be slowed down,
green light is for areas that we need to go forward with. We had to think about things in our
school that fitted into these different areas. Everyone enjoyed the conference because there
were lots of interactive activities and games. We all felt that we grew our skills as leaders and
taught us ways to be a positive influence to others. We have lots of great ideas for how to make
a difference in our school and are looking forward to achieving big things this year!

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea L01 and L02 students celebrated Mother’s
Day by hosting an afternoon tea. Students
baked scones for the occasion and worked
hard practising how to greet and serve
guests as they arrived. They expertly took
scone orders as guests arrived and
concentrated hard to put just the right
amount of jam and cream on each one. It
was wonderful to see so many mums,
grandmothers and special adults attend the
afternoon tea. Students were so excited
and it was fantastic opportunity for them to
share a story and treat with someone
special. Congratulations on all your efforts
students and teachers in Lorikeet.
