Setup iPad

You will need:

In the next screen, enter your

email address, security

questions, birthday, and create

your password.

You also can enter an optional

rescue email address. If you

frequently change email

addresses, it is recommended

that you add a rescue email

address.

Once you are satisfied with the

information entered, tap “Next”

Select “None” as your payment

option

Continue to fill out the required address and phone number fields. Tap “Next.”

You'll see a screen that says "Verify your Account." Tap “Done.”

Press the “Home” button and open the “Safari” browser by

tapping on its icon

Enter the URL for your e-mail service (e.g. www.gmail.com) and navigate to it.

Login to your email and look for a verification email from iTunes Store. Tap the

link enclosed in the email to activate your account. The App Store should

automatically open and prompt you to sign in with your account name and

password.

If it does not open automatically, enter your Apple ID and password manually at

Home > Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID. 

 

Set Up iCloud. This enables the iPad to be backed up on a daily basis. This

means even if you run into major problems with your iPad, you lose it or it is

stolen, your data will be backed up to the Internet and waiting for you when

your restore your iPad.

Use Find My iPad. Turning on this feature lets you track the location of a

stolen/lost iPad.

iMessage and Facetime. You can choose to have people contact you via the

email address used with your Apple ID. This allows you to take FaceTime calls

(video conferencing software similar to Skype), or receive iMessage texts

(messages to friends and family that use either an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or

Mac).

Create a Passcode. You don't have to create a passcode to use an iPad.

There's a "Don't Add Passcode" link just above the on-screen keyboard, but a

passcode can make your iPad more secure by requiring it to be entered each

time someone wants to use the iPad.

Siri. As Apple's voice recognition system, Siri can perform a lot of great tasks,

such as setting up reminders or searching for the nearest pizza place.

Diagnostics. The last choice is whether or not to send a daily diagnostic report

to Apple.

Get Started. The last step is to click on the "Get Started" link on the "Welcome

to iPad" page. This finalizes setting up the iPad to use.
