Mistake #2 Assume you know


You can… • Pretend to know

• Tell people you know

• Or actually take thefollowing steps and you will really know

Don’t Assume You Know…

Places: Locate the places where you canfind answers.

Patience: Give yourself time to find the people and places to find answers.

People: Find the people who are living the answers to your questions.


PEOPLE: For every problem there are at least FIVE people who can offer support and guidance.

People in your corner:

1. People who volunteer2. People you pay3. People you enlist


PLACES: You need at least THREE places on campus where you can find connection, community, and support. Each place gives students access to new people and experiences. Having three places means always having options. Without places a student panics, hates, or hides in his or her comfort zone.

PATIENCE: Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable means setting realistic expectations. It can take a good year to find your people and places once you’re in college.

It’s tempting to follow a boyfriend or girlfriend to college… but you might end up going to school with your ex.

It’s tempting to follow friends so you don’t have to worry about making them… but you might lose a friend.

It’s tempting to go where people tell you to go because it’s too scary to figure out where you want to go… until you’re there and realize youdon’t know why you’re there.

Embrace the uncomfortable…

Life is 90 percent amazing and 10 percent BS. The trick is to never the 10 percent take up 100

percent of your time. How do you do this?

When you face the uncomfortable ask the following questions:

• Who are my people?

• Where are my places?

• How long will it take for me to get comfortable with the uncomfortable?
