About the Illustrator:Louise Gwillym is a Nursery Nurse who has been workingwithin the school environment for fourteen years.Through working with primary age children, Louise hasdeveloped her individual style of art which captures theinterest and imagination of children of all ages, and inparticular those in the early years phase of education.

Teacher Consultants:The advice and expertise of Melissa Griffithsand Lynda Jones has been invaluable in producingthis book and accompanying resources. Melissahas worked with early years pupils for the lastnine years and co-ordinates Religious Educationin the primary school where she currently works.Lynda has over twenty years’ experienceteaching in primary schools and is currentlyteacher in charge of the nursery at the schoolwhere she works.

About the Author:Gill Vaisey is a Religious Education Consultant specialising in theprimary and early years phases of education. After studying forher B.Ed. Hons. degree, with Religious Studies as her specialistsubject, she taught primary age pupils before taking up a post asan Advisory Teacher for Religious Education in Gwent. Gill hasbeen a successful freelance consultant since 1996 and hasdeveloped a passion for early years education through her mostrecent work with this age group.

Seven New Kittens is based ona traditional Muslim story whichcontains a message to treasure thenatural world. It encourages childrento reflect on the wonder, beauty andmystery of the world in which welive and to develop respect for allliving creatures.

Illustrations for this book have beencarefully designed in keeping withMuslim codes of conduct regardingart. It is not appropriate for theProphet Muhammad to be illustratedand this should be borne in mind byparents and teachers when using thisbook with children. Muslims arerequired to invoke Allah’s blessingsand peace upon the Prophetwhenever his name is mentioned.This is often shown by writing inbrackets after his name (peace beupon him) or (pbuh).

The sun shone high in the sky.It was a very hot day.

Muhammad and his friendslooked around for a nice,cool, shady placeto rest.

The big wide leavesof the palm treeoffered just thespot they needed.

The men settled down under thetree and before long they wereall falling asleep.

They were so sleepy that they didn’tnotice someone else coming to join them!

The cheeky cat pawed at Muhammad’scloak. She was also looking for a nice,cool shady place to rest.

The bright red cloth, laid out under thepalm tree, seemed the perfect place so,

where was the cat going?

Within a moment, the cat returned but this timeshe was carrying something very special.
