Children’s Play Oven Mitt
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can;
Pat it and prick it and mark it with a 'B',
And put it in the oven for Baby and me.
Role play is so important for little ones and accessories like this can
really bring imaginative play to life

Quilting:
Transfer the quilting lines from the
pattern to the main fabric pieces,
marking with chalk or a fabric marker
pen
Sandwich together the lining, the wadding and then on the very top, the main
fabric.
Pin in a few places to keep everything sandwiched together
Using a slightly
longer stitch than
normal, follow the
lines that you
marked in the
previous step

Place two mitts right sides facing and sew from the lower edge/wrist up about 4”
towards the thumb section, using a 1/4” seam allowance. Backstitch a few
stitches at the lower edge
Open out the mitt and attach 11.5” of bias binding along the lower edge,
extending the bias binding 4” beyond the edge of the mitt
Sew in place along the whole length of the binding
Attaching the Binding and Making the Hanging Loop
Sew only 4” up
from the lower
edge

Fold the extended piece of binding in half and pin the end in place along the
outside raw edge of the mitt. Baste in place with a few stitches
Flip the mitt back in half so that the right sides are facing again.
Sew with a 1/4” seam allowance, around the rest of the mitt, ensuring that you
sew up to the dot on the lining that you marked earlier
Remember to leave the lower edge open for turning and putting little hands
through

Snip into the seam allowance between the hand and thumb sections, down to
the dot. Get as close to the dot as you can, without cutting through your
stitching!
Turn the mitten through, pushing out all of the curves. Give the mitt a wash if
necessary to remove the chalk/fabric marker pen
