3. Public Transport

Trains leave from various German cities to Venice Santa Lucia. The

SFB-Members will depart as a group from Munich Main Station.

Several airlines offer flights to Marco Polo International Airport at

Venice. From the airport, regular boats (e.g. ALILAGUNA) connect to

the island of Venice where speakers and participants are lodged.

We have booked rooms in two hotels. Both hotels are located in the

historic center of Venice. The historic center of Venice is quite small

so that you can walk to most of the interesting places from the hotels.

In addition, you can take the waterbuses (called Vaporetto) across the

famous Canal Grande or take other lines to travel to the small islands

closeby.

You can use Alilaguna Boats or the ACTV Waterbuses, called

Vaporettos (cheapest option). Tickets can be purchased in the arrival

hall of the airport one-way and directly on board or online at reduced

rates, respectively, will be provided by the organizator.

4. How to get to the hotel “DOMUS CILIOTA”

From Marco Polo International Airport:

Alilaguna Boat (Orange Line) directly links the airport to Venice centre: the “Alilaguna Orange Line” calls at “Sant’Angelo” waterbus stop (close to Istituto Ciliota). The fare is 16 Euro.

Bus and Waterbus (Vaporetto: Take the bus line 5 to the Venice urban bus terminal at “Piazzale Roma” and then take Vaporetto Line 1 or 2. This option costs about 12 Euros (one way). Buses and Waterbuses are both run by ACTV, so there is the possibility to buy a Tourist Travel Card valid on bus and boat.

Vaporetto Line 1 towards “Lido” - get off at “S. Angelo” Then walk (2-3 minutes) through Corte de l’Albero, (turn left, then right) Ramo Narisi, (right) Fondamenta Narisi, (straight) iron bridge, (left) Piscina San Samuele, (right) Ramo di Piscina, (left) Crosera, then Calle de le Boteghe, (right) Sotoportego e Calle de le Muneghe. Istituto Ciliota is in Calle de le Muneghe, 2976. Vaporetto Line 2 towards “San Marco – Vallaresso” - get off at “S. Samuele”. Then walk (5 minutes) through (straight) Salizada San Samuele, (turn right) Crosera, then Calle de le Boteghe, (right) Sotoportego e Calle de le Muneghe, 2976.

Attention: Not all the journeys of line 2 arrive at “San Marco Vallaresso” – some journeys have their end at “Rialto”. Rialto is still too far from Istituto Ciliota. If you take line 2, check that the final destination is “San Marco – Vallaresso” before boarding the boat (It is indicated on a board on the flank of the boat, near the door).

From the Railway station Santa Lucia:

Vaporetto Line 1 towards “Lido” - get off at “S. Angelo” Then walk (2-3 minutes) through Corte de l’Albero, (turn left, then right) Ramo Narisi, (right) Fondamenta Narisi, (straight) iron bridge, (left) Piscina San Samuele, (right) Ramo di Piscina, (left) Crosera, then Calle de le Boteghe, (right under the arch) Sotoportego e Calle de le Muneghe. Samuele” Then walk (5 minutes) through Salizada Malipiero or Calle de le Carrozze, then (straight) Salizada San Samuele, (turn right) Crosera, then Calle de le Boteghe, (right under the arch) Sotoportego e Calle de le Muneghe. Domus Ciliota is in Calle de le Muneghe, 2976.

Attention: Not all the journeys of line 2 reach San Samuele – some journeys have their end at “Rialto”. Rialto is still too far from Domus Ciliota. If you take line 2, check that the final destination is “San Marco – Vallaresso” before boarding the boat (It is indicated on a board on the flank of the boat, near the door, and it is announced by the sailor).

5. How to get to the hotel “DON ORIONE”

From Marco Polo International Airport:

Vaporetto (Water Bus): Vaporetto Nr. 1 or 2 (direction to S. Marco) at Canal Grande and exit at “Accademia”. Turn left and walk along “Rio Tera for about 200 mt and you will find our entrance to the right close the church “St. Agnese”.

Alilaguna Boat (Blue Line) as well as Vaporetto Nr. 5.1 oder 6 and exit at “Zattere”.

Left along the church „Dei Gesuati“ for about 50mt. and you can find our entrance.

From the Railway station Santa Lucia:

At Santa Lucia train station please take Vaporetto Nr. 1 oder 2 (direction to S. Marco) at Canal Grande and exit at “Accademia”. Turn left and walk along “Rio Tera for about 200 mt and you will find our entrance to the right close the church “St. Agnese”.

6. The Workshop Venue

The conference takes place at the Venice International University (VIU). It is located on the

tiny island San Servolo in front of the historic center of Venice. The University can be reached

with the Vaporetto No. 20, which leaves from Venice San Zaccaria “B”.
