Haber nacido en una familia cristiana y la adoración en
una iglesia cristiana nos puede dar una relación a una
religión, a una ideología, a una verdad, y para una
comunidad de culto; pero estas cosas, de sí mismos, no
son lo mismo que una fe verdadera en Dios.
Hoy La fe no es fácil para ninguno de nosotros.
Tener fe real, una creencia real en Dios, requiere algo
más que simplemente seguir rodando con el flujo de
nuestras propias comunidades en particular de fe. Digo
esto porque cada vez es más claro que hoy en día es
mucho más fácil tener fe en el cristianismo, en un
código de ética, en la enseñanza moral de Jesús, en la
llamada de Dios por la justicia, en una ideología del
cristianismo, e incluso en el valor de reunión de
adoración, de lo que es tener una relación personal y
real con Dios.
Karl Rahner dijo una vez que el tiempo se acerca
rápidamente, cuando uno va a ser un místico o un
incrédulo. Henri Nouwin, muchos años antes, dijo la
misma cosa.
En las lecturas de hoy escuchamos las historias de tres
o cuatro grandes místicos, Elías, David (?), Pablo y
Jesús. Todos tenían una gran fe personal con Abba, no
acerca de Abba. ¿Qué lección de fe aprendemos de
ellos?

“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Being born into a Christian family and worshipping
within a Christian church can give us a relationship to
a religion, to an ideology, to a truth, and to a
community of worship; but these things, of
themselves, are not the same thing as an actual faith in
God.
Faith is not easy today for any of us. To have real
faith, an actual belief in God, requires something more
than simply continuing to roll with the flow of our
own particular faith communities. I say this because it
is becoming clearer that today it is much easier to
have faith in Christianity, in a code of ethics, in Jesus’
moral teaching, in God’s call for justice, in an
ideology of Christianity, and even in the value of
gathering for worship, than it is to have a personal and
real relationship to God.
Karl Rahner once said that the time is fast
approaching when one will either be a mystic or an
unbeliever. Henri Nouwin, many years earlier, stated
the same thing.
In today’s readings we hear the stories of three or four
great mystics, Elijah, David (?),
Paul and Jesus. All had a great personal faith in
Abba, not about Abba. What lesson in faith do we
learn from them?

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) Adults who are not Catholic and might want to become Catholic. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults will be starting in September on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. RCIA is for adults who are baptized in another faith community by Trinitarian Formula, and desire to inquire about full communion in our Catholic Faith. It is also for adults that have never been baptized and who wish to inquire and discern the journey to Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
