GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS In these General and Specific Terms and Conditions: - (a) “Applicant” refers to the entity or individual submitting this entry form. (b) “Event” refers to the SGF Orchid Show 2020. (c) “Exhibitor” refers to an Applicant whose entry has been accepted by the Show Organizers. (d) “Judges” refers to the judges judging the Orchid Landscape Display Competition and/or the

Orchid Plant Competition, as the case may be. (d) “Landscape Display” refers to each landscape display submitted for the Orchid Landscape

Display Competition. (e) “Orchid Plant” refers to any plant submitted for the Orchid Plant Competition. (f) “Show Organizers” refer to the National Parks Board and the Orchid Society of South-East Asia. (g) “Exhibit Area” refers to the relevant Exhibit Area(s) specified in the Specific Terms and

Conditions for each competition. (h) “Show Secretariat” refers to the relevant staff listed in the Specific Terms and Conditions. (i) “Show Chair” refers to the individual supervising the Event. 1. The Landscape Display Competition and Orchid Plant Competition will be held at the Singapore

Botanic Gardens as part of the Event. The Event will be officially open to the public from Sunday 1 March 2020 until Sunday 8 March 2020, 7.00 pm (last entry at 6pm). Admission is free.

2. Exhibitors may participate in the Landscape Display Competition or the Orchid Plant Competition

in their own name, or under a pseudonym or in the name of a corporate entity. Joint participation is not allowed.

3. For Applicants and overseas Exhibitors, information on obtaining a CITES Permit and

Phytosanitary Certificate are available from the Show Secretariat, and will be provided to Applicants and Exhibitors upon request.

4. Acceptance of Landscape Displays or Orchid Plants is at the discretion of the Show Organizers

at the point of set-up or delivery of plants. In the event that any Exhibitor’s Landscape Display or Orchid Plant is not accepted, an appeal may be made to the Show Chair or Chair of Judges, respectively, and their decision will be final.

5. Landscape Displays should not contain flowering plants other than orchids. 6. Disbudded plants, diseased plants and newly collected jungle plants must not be exhibited. 7. Watering, misting and maintenance of Orchid Plants and plant materials will be carried out by the

Show Organizers. Exhibitors who wish to perform their own watering and/or implement their own maintenance schedule must obtain the prior approval of the Show Organizers.

8. Stakes or wires must be unobtrusive and must not touch any part of any flower, including the

pedicel. Such stakes or wires must also not extend beyond the first flower, except in the case of Phalaenopsis and Oncidium Alliance exhibits.

9. The Show Organizers may remove or request the Exhibitors to replace plant materials that are

withered or diseased and unsuitable for display. Exhibitors whose Orchid Plants or materials are removed from the Landscape Display by the organizers will be notified

10. No Landscape Displays or Orchid Plants or materials are to be removed (save where the Orchids

or materials used need to be refreshed) before the tear down date without the permission of the Show Manager.

11. Landscape Displays, Orchid Plants and materials may be retrieved after the close of the Event

on Sunday, 8 March 2020, from 7.00 pm onwards up to 11.00pm or the following day Monday, 9 March 2020 from 8.30 am onwards up to 7.00 pm.

12. Judges will be invited to preside over the Landscape Display Competition and Orchid Plant

Competition.

13. Prizes:

(a) Prizes include Challenge Cups, rosettes and medals, the details of which are as set out in the Schedule.

(b) Generally:

(i) Medals: Medals are awarded to an Orchid Plant or a Landscape Display (as the case may be) irrespective of class or section if, in the Judges’ discretion, the Orchid Plant or Landscape Display satisfies the criteria to be awarded a medal. An Orchid Plant or a Landscape Display may be awarded a Gold Medal, a Silver Medal or a Bronze Medal.

(ii) Rosettes: Rosettes are awarded to an Orchid Plant or a Landscape Display (as the case may be) within a class of each section. There shall be three Rosette winners in each class, demarcating the first place winner, the second place winner and the third place winner.

(iii) Challenge Cups: Challenge cups may be awarded at the Judges’ discretion to

the best exhibits among the Rosette winners within each section in the Landscape Display Competition and/or Orchid Plant Competition.

(c) The Judges retain the sole discretion to determine whether any prizes are to be awarded

for each Landscape Display or Orchid Plant, including determining whether more than one type or category of prize should be awarded for each Landscape Display or Orchid Plant.

(d) For the purposes of determining the winner of the H.H. the Sultan of Johor’s Perpetual

Challenge Cup, Exhibitors will be categorised as either “Amateur” or “Professional”. Amateurs are hobbyists who do not benefit financially from their orchid growing. Professionals are growers who either earn a living from the sale of their plants and skills, or who are employees of organisations, whether or not commercial, that are devoted to the growing of orchids.

14. The Judges will evaluate the merit of the exhibits, and their decisions shall be final. They may, in

their absolute discretion, declare any entry for the Landscape Display Competition or the Orchid Plant Competition void, or, if they should consider that there are no entries reaching the required standard, they may withhold prizes as they think fit.

15. Any breach of the General and Specific Terms and Conditions may lead to the disqualification of

the Exhibitor concerned. Any appeal concerning such disqualification or any other matter must be made to the Show Chair, whose decision shall be final.

16. The Exhibitor shall be responsible for all property (whether belonging to the Exhibitor, his

employee, agent or contractor) placed, deposited, brought into or left in the Exhibit Area. The Show Organizers shall not be liable in respect of any loss or damage to the Exhibitor’s Landscape Display, Orchid Plants, Exhibits, belongings and other items.

17. Upon the conclusion of the Event, the Exhibitor shall dismantle or remove all property brought

into the Exhibit Area and ensure that all litter and debris are disposed of by Monday, 9 March 2020, 7.00pm. Any property, litter, debris or rubbish remaining in the Exhibit Area after such time may be disposed of by the Show Organizers in any manner and at the Show Organizer’s discretion. The Show Organizers shall not be liable to the Exhibitor for any loss, cost, expense, damage or other consequences arising from such disposal. The Exhibitor shall reimburse the Show Organizers for any cost and expense incurred by the Show Organizers from such disposal.

ORCHID LANDSCAPE DISPLAY COMPETITION

1. Applicants shall submit the attached entry form together with a design sketch of the Landscape Display for shortlisting by the Show Organizers. All entry forms must be complete with full details. Incomplete forms (including those with insufficient details or incomplete documents) will be rejected. The closing date for submission is Friday 27 December 2019. Shortlisted Applicants will be notified within 2 weeks from the closing date.

2. Shortlisted Applicants who are selected to be Exhibitors will be provided with the following materials: - Foliage plants including small trees, shrubs and ground cover - Saw dust/wood shaving/coco chips - Sand - Tree branches, (about 2-4m long & 10-20-cm diameter) - 4 x spotlights for 10 sqm and 6 x spotlights for 15 sqm - 2 x 13-amp power point for each landscape exhibit - A3 signboard to indicate name of Exhibitor

3. Exhibitors may submit requests for simple construction of water features. Where such requests are submitted, they must be accompanied by drawings and dimensions. The Show Organizers may at their discretion, assist in the construction or installation of the requested water features, subject to its overall look and restrictions at the Exhibit Area.

4. Whilst copyright in the design of the Landscape Display remains with the Exhibitor, the Exhibitor grants the Show Organizers the right to reproduce the Landscape Display without the prior approval of the Exhibitor. However, in such event, the Show Organizers will acknowledge the Exhibitor as the designer of the Landscape Display.

5. Permission for vehicle access during off-peak hours (i.e. from 7pm to 8.29am next day) must be

obtained from NParks. Vehicle access within the vicinity of the Exhibit Area is strictly for loading/unloading of Orchid Plants and materials (Refer to Annex B for drive-in route). Parking outside of designated carparks in the Singapore Botanic Gardens is not allowed.

6. Exhibitors shall ensure that the set-up of their Landscape Display shall be completed within the

allocated set-up period.

Important Note:

- All access will need to be cleared in advanced with the show secretariat

- Vehicle travelling in the Gardens should be escorted by a proxy on foot (in front of the vehicle)

- Vehicle hazard lights are to be turned on in the Gardens

- Vehicles are not permitted on lawns/grass patches. If considerable damage has been made to the lawn, reinstatement of turf is required.

- Work area shall be cordoned off with a set of safety cones, red-white / black-yellow tape

- No damage should be done to any tree, shrubs, flowers, plants and roots – all these are protected by the parks and trees act and are liable to fines and reinstatement

1. Exhibitors for the Orchid Plant Competition will be required to complete an online registration via a link to be made available at the Orchid Society of South East Asia’s website. Any Exhibitor may contact the Show Secretariat for details of how to register plants online. Exhibitors may contact the Show Secretariat if they encounter issues with online registration.

2. Exhibitors who have registered online will be scheduled to deliver their Orchid Plants during the set-up

period.

3. Permission for vehicle access during the set-up period must be obtained from NParks. Vehicle access within the vicinity of the Exhibit Area is strictly for loading/unloading of Orchid Plants and materials (Refer to Annex B for drive-in route). Parking outside of designated carparks in the Singapore Botanic Gardens is not allowed.

4. Upon delivery at the Exhibit Area, Orchid Plants will be officially labelled. It is important that Exhibitors

correctly identify and label their Orchid Plants before delivery at the Exhibit Area, to avoid delays. 5. Orchids with attractive or variegated foliage will be judged as foliage plants (under Section 17 of the

Schedule). Where the Orchid Plants are flowering, they will also be considered in the respective floral classes listed in the Schedule. The Chair of Judges has the discretion to determine the appropriate class of a particular Orchid Plant.

6. Where more than one Orchid Plant is in a pot or other container or mount, only the Plant in the best

condition will be considered. In the case of Papilionanthe and near terete Papilionandas, up to 5 plants (stems) may be included in the pot and will be judged as a group. Please refer to further details in Section 4 of the Schedule.

7. Exhibitors are not allowed to enter the individual competition area to place their plants. Such placement of

the registered plants in sections and classes within the individual competition area will be carried out by stewards assisting the Judges. Plants in Landscape Displays will not be judged under the Orchid Plant Competition.

8. The following is a list of special awards which Exhibitors may win:-

(ii) The Orchid Society of South East Asia Championship Cup for the Exhibitor awarded the greatest number of first places in various classes of the sections listed in the Schedule. In the event of a tie, the number of second places will be used, etc.

(iii) H.H. the Sultan of Johor’s Perpetual Challenge Cup to the Amateur scoring the highest

number of points

(iv) Yuen-Peng McNeice Challenge Cup for the Best Specimen Plant

10. For determining the H.H. Sultan of Johor’s Perpetual Challenge Cup, amateur Orchid Plants will receive points as follows:

11. To be eligible for Rosettes, Challenge Cups or Medals, hybrid orchids must be entered under the Royal Horticultural Society’s (“RHS”) registered name or parentage. If there is no registered name with the RHS, the parentage must be provided. Orchid Plants exhibited under Trade Names will not be eligible for rosettes, medals or trophies and may only be exhibited non-competitively.

11. Rosettes are awarded for first, second and third placing within each class of each section.

12. To be eligible for the Yuen-Peng McNeice Challenge Cup, specimen plants should be single plants. 13. Winners of Challenge Cups may retain their Challenge Cups for a period of 1 year by providing an

undertaking of safe return, but winners are to note that Challenge Cups will be exhibited with the winning Orchid Plants during the Event.
