Parshat Zachor is read on the Shabbat immediately preceding Purim (Shabbat, March 11th). We choose this Shabbat to observe the commandment to remember the evil of the nation of Amalek who are central to Purim as well. In Exodus 17:8-16, we read about their war against the Jewish people when they attacked us without mercy. The command in Deut. 25:17-19 states: “Remember what Amalek did to you, on your way as you departed from Egypt… you shall obliterate the memory of Amalek, you shall not forget.” According to most authorities, it is a Torah level commandment to hear this portion read in synagogue. Men and women are encouraged to come to shul to hear Parshat Zachor. Torah reading begins at 10:00AM. There will be a second reading immediately after services on Shabbat morning.
Megillah Readings at UOS: You can fulfill the Mitzvah of half shekel in the synagogue lobby on
Sat. night and Sunday morning. Saturday March 11th at 7:35 pm: Family Megillah reading - Please remember that if you bring your children, it is your responsibility to make sure they remain quiet throughout the entire reading. Consider sending children to the children’s program where they will have a fun and educational experience. Having children at Megillah reading does not take precedence over the obligation to hear the entire Megillah reading. Saturday March 11th at 7:35 pm: Youth program, K-2nd & 3rd-5th - During the UOS commu-nity Megillah reading, your children will experience the Megillah through a special program created by a skit put on by our wonderful Bnot Sheirut!! Don’t miss this! No RSVP required. Come and enjoy! (Please note, while parents are welcome to accompany their children to this program, it will not include a full Megillah reading). Saturday March 11th: Following the Megillah reading, Bnei Akiva's Purim Carnival in Freed-man Hall Saturday March 11th at 9:30 pm: Pin drop reading, adults and teens only - We respectfully ask that small children not be brought to this reading. Parents with small children can fulfill the Mitzvah of hearing the Megillah reading by having one parent attend the Kid’s Program while the other attends the regular reading. The other parent can then attend the 9:30 PM reading. Sunday March 12th after Shacharit 8:00 am followed by Megillah Sunday March 12th at 9:00 am: Annual Women's Reading Sunday March 12th at 10:30 am: Family Reading

THE SETTLERS Thursday, March 16 | 7:30 PM
Evelyn Rubenstein JCC Directed by Shimon Dotan
France/Canada/Israel, 2016, 106 min English, Hebrew, Arabic with English subtitles
This is a comprehensive view of the Jewish settlers in the occupied territories of the West Bank. A historical overview, a geopolitical study and an intimate look at those people at the core of the most
daunting challenges facing Israel and the international community today. The settlers cannot be divided into categories. Some are living in the West Bank because the real estate prices are cheap, some for
religious reasons, and some for no particular religious or ideological purpose. And so the question remains: What is a settler?

Tot Shabbat
We are excited to unveil a special Tot Shabbat program for your children, aged 0 to 5. Our first Shabbat is planned for March 11th at 10:30 am. Please plan for a parent to stay in the room with
children age 2 and younger. The program will include tfilot, songs, parsha, and a snack of course. The yellow room will be cleaned and painted, and a new rug, siddurim, and child-size chairs will create a fun and pleas-
ant atmosphere. Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.
We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with you! Rachel Gladstein, Paula Fogelman, Alisha Klapholz, and Yosef Levenstein
Rabbi Gelman and Elie ended their trip to Israel with a Saturday night dinner with a group of Houston youth spending the year/living in Israel.
