Lafarge is a partner of the France Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. The Expo is focusing on themes of urbanization, architecture and sustainable construction. The "Seven Wonders of Concrete" presentation illustrates the most spectacular technological initiatives in terms of building materials through symbolic structures. The France Pavilion and the architect Jacques Ferrier

Construction of the France Pavilion began in November 2008. Conceived anddesigned by architect Jacques Ferrier, it is a symbol of innovative Frenchengineering at the exhibition, which is held from May to October 2010.

The France Pavilion as the “Sensual City”

In response to the exhibition’s theme, "Better city, Better life", the France Pavilionis based around the concept of the “Sensual City”. Six senses are focused on:taste, touch, smell, sight, hearing and balance/movement.

The France Pavilion and its masterpieces

Masterpieces from the Orsay museum in Paris are displayed inside the Pavilion:Rodin’s "The Age of Bronze", Millet’s "The Angelus", Manet’s "The Balcony", VanGogh’s "The Dance Hall in Arles", Cézanne’s "Woman with Coffee Pot",Gauguin’s "The Meal" and finally Bonnard’s “The Box”.

Outside the Pavilion, French engineering expertise is illustrated by a concretemesh - a symbol of power and refinement, encircling it and appearing to floatabove a lake.

Made from Ductal® (ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete) andPLAtec® (tailor-made plasterboard solutions for decoration, fittings and finishing),the Lafarge area inside the Pavilion is dedicated to touch. Lafarge is the worldleader in building materials.

Lafarge as the leading supplier at Shanghai 2010

As well as supplying the materials for its own area, Lafarge is the leading supplierof gypsum for Shanghai 2010 – 60% of the exhibition’s pavilions are being madewith PLAtec® plasterboard.

Lafarge, partner of the France Pavilion, is already collaborating with the architectJacques Ferrier for the Hypergreen eco-tower project. The Group has teamed upwith the architect again to produce the France Pavilion.
