God is the Honey, organizations

are the hives; both are

necessary. Any form is useless,

of course, without the spirit, but

why should you not start busy

hives full of the spiritual nectar?

RANCHI YOGODA MONASTERYRANCHI YOGODA MONASTERY …This town in Bihar, about 200 miles from Calcutta, is blessed with one of

the most healthful climates in India.

The Ranchi students are taught

yoga meditation, and a unique

system of health and physical

development, Yogoda, whose

principles I discovered in 1916.

By the simple Yogoda

techniques, one may

consciously and instantly

recharge his life force (centered

in the medulla oblongata) from

the unlimited supply of cosmic

energy.

YOGODA TRAININGYOGODA TRAINING …The boys at Ranchi responded well to Yogoda training, developing extraordinary ability to shift the life force from one part of the body to another part and to sit in perfect poise in difficult asanas.

With twenty fertile acres at our

disposal, the students, teachers,

and I enjoyed daily periods of

gardening and other outdoor

work.

We had many pets, including a young deer that was fairly idolized by the children.

I, too, loved the fawn so much that I allowed it to sleep in my room. At the light of

dawn the little creature would toddle over to my bed for a morning caress – Sri

Yogananda Giri

One of Lahiri Mahasaya’s

favorite remarks, with which he

would encourage his students to

persevere in mediation. It is

literally: “Making, Making, some

day made.”

BANAT, BANAT, BANAT, BANAT,

BAN JAIBAN JAI

The unique feature at Ranchi is

the initiation into Kriya Yoga.

The boys daily practice their

spiritual exercises.

Joy comes to my heart, to see

that Lahiri Mahasaya’s ideals for

the proper training of youth are

being carried on in this

institution.

LITCHI TREELITCHI TREE …In 1917, Swami Yogananda Giri began his life work under the large

canopy of this Litchi Tree.

The consciousness of a

perfected yogi is effortlessly

identified not with a narrow body

but with the universal structure.

He who knows himself as the

omnipresent Spirit is subject no

longer to the rigidities of a body

in time and space.

Free from matter-consciousness, free from the three dimensions of space and the

fourth dimension of time, a master transfers his body of light with equal ease over

or through the light rays of earth, water, fire and air.

Long concentration on the

liberating spiritual eye has

enabled the yogi to destroy all

delusions concerning matter and

its gravitational weight; he sees

the universe as the Lord created

it: an essentially undifferentiated

mass of light.

LET THERE BE LIGHTLET THERE BE LIGHT …A yogi who through perfect meditation has merged his consciousness with the Creator perceives the cosmical essence as light (vibrations of life energy)

“If therefore thine eye be single,

thy whole body shall be full of

light.” He who knows himself as

the Omnipresent Spirit is subject

no longer to the rigidities of a

body in time and space.

In measuring the worth of a man, a saint employs an invariable criterion, one far

different from the shifting yardsticks of the world. Humanity – so variegated in its

own eyes! – is seen by a master to be divided into only two classes: ignorant men

who are not seeking God, and wise men who are – Sri Yogananda Giri.

Ashram, Ranchi.

In his Autobiography, Paramahansaji writes: "America!

Surely these people are Americans!" This was my

thought as a panorama of Western faces passed before

my inward view. Immersed in meditation, I was sitting

behind some dusty boxes in the storeroom of the Ranchi

school....The vision continued; a vast multitude, gazing

at me intently, swept actor like across the stage of

consciousness. On this very sacred spot stands the

Smriti Mandir, a tall hexagonal all marble temple with

decorative lace wall on all the sides and a large lotus

dome, a memorial to t he world wide mission that took its

first step there.

The ashram campus offers several

beautifully landscape gardens with

varieties of plants and trees. These

gardens offer an opportunity to let go and

relax in body, mind, and spirit. Several

meditation benches are provided for those

who want to meditate or just absorb the

peace and tranquillity of this spiritual

place.
