Dear readers,

In continuation to my previous month’s article on global economic

slowdown, I would like to through more light on this topic this month as

well. We must agree that the situation with respect to automobile industry

is undergoing a paradigm shift and this change is inevitable. Hence, it is

necessary for us to have a tunnel vision on how we are going to equip and

ready ourselves for our future rather pointing out the situation as only

crisis.

The industry giants are expecting the current sales to boost soon

and the strategy on how to get our products recognized in global market as

a highly standard ones and not just being ‘mediocre’. It is also expected

that industries should start focusing on fostering falling domestic sales with

exports to global markets. Like many industrial tycoons, I also strongly

believe that automobile industry will emerge rapidly from this tiny set

back.

Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, recently expressed his

views on the current market trend of automobile industry!

❖ Most of the auto industry slowdown is of their own

making. Lot of companies are not able to export

because frankly, by world-class standards, their

products are mediocre. The industry should focus on

fostering falling domestic sales with exports to

global markets.

❖ Commenting over the recent reports of job cuts in

auto industry, Bajaj said this fear mongering is not

required. "I agree that it is a difficult time, but a

drop of 5 per cent to 7 per cent sales can't be called

as a crisis," he said. "I wouldn't like to play with the

lives and families of the employees."

9. Audit samples are sometimes seemingly quite small, but they serve the purpose of

showing a system snapshot.

10. Audit samples are examined in greater depth than are product samples; that is,

more information is gathered per unit of product. The sample results are examined

from a systems perspective.

11. The examination goes beyond mere conformance to requirements. Minor

discrepancies are noted, even if they are not serious enough to warrant rejection

12. A common practice is to use a weighting scheme to assign “demerits” to each

unit of product.

13. These audit scores are presented on histograms and control charts to determine their

distribution and to identify trends.

14. Product audit results are compared with the marketing requirements (i.e., customer

requirements) as well as the engineering requirements.

15. Product audits are often conducted in the marketplace itself. By obtaining the product as a

customer, the auditor can examine the impact of transportation, packaging, handling, storage,

and so on. These audits also provide an opportunity to compare the condition of the product with
